Overview

The Highlander's Princess Bride by Vanessa Kelly

In Vanessa Kelly’s enchanting series, three young women descended from royalty overcome their scandalous beginnings to win the hearts of the ton’s most eligible men . . .

The illegitimate daughter of the Prince Regent might be expected to pursue various dubious professions. Actress, perhaps, or artist’s model. Even courtesan. Victoria Knight, however, has become a governess—a respectable choice, until she travels to Scotland to meet her new charges. The younger brothers of Nicholas Kendrick, Earl of Arnprior, aren’t children at all. They’re brawny, wild Highland men. As for the Earl, he’s handsome, guarded, and far too compelling . . . especially for a woman hiding a dark secret.

Nick needs a proper teacher to transform his unmarriageable brothers—and a sensible, straight-laced wife for himself. Miss Knight seems to fit the bill on both counts. But he soon discovers there is more to Victoria than he thought. It’s not just her notorious origins, or the danger that’s followed her all the way to Scotland. It’s the fiery loyalty beneath that sedate façade. This, the real Victoria, is the woman Nick is starting to desire so desperately. And what an earl wants, he’ll use every seductive means to get . . .

A quirky, humorous love story. Loved how Nicholas and his family interact. Couldn't help but chuckle at their antics. Victoria is plucky and brave and slips into the hearts of all the family. Really enjoyed this tale and couldn't put the book down. Highly recommend it.

This book was a fun read with charming characters and hopefully a nice seque into the next series from Vanessa Kelly. I honestly cannot remember a more delightful romance than this one. Victoria Knight is the illegitimate daughter of the Prince Regent who gets into a slight bit of trouble and so to escape scandal she takes a position as a governess in Scotland. Unbeknowing to Victoria her charges are the full grown brothers to her new employer who just happens to need a wife. This entire story was incredibly lovely and I recommend it to anyone who likes to read historical romance.

I absolutely loved Victoria and Nick's story!! I loved Victoria and the fact that she stood up for herself and didn't let a bunch of rough highlanders run all over her even though she was the last thing they wanted in their lives. I really liked Nick too. He knew that he had let things get out of hand with his brothers and would do anything to get them back on track, even bring in a governess for his grown brothers. He knew there would be issues, but even he didn't expect all the antics they got up to. Nick's brother's really grew on me during this story and I'm really hoping that Kelly is using this story as a bridge to her next series!! I'd love to see them get their HEA!!

Victoria is the illegitimate daughter of the Prince Regent and someone believes she is a murderer. She decides to take a job in Scotland as a governess to get away, but can she? This story is fast-paced with plenty of drama and needless to stay Victoria has her hands full trying to teach all those rugged Scottish men. Nick may have hired Victoria to teach his brother, but he is learning a thing or two as well. This is a fun read with great characters and an entertaining story. I really liked getting to know the Kendrick family. Nick and Victoria have great chemistry that kept me hooked. A good read.

London - 1816 Miss Victoria Knight has admitted to killing Thomas Fletcher in self-defense. She is discussing the situation with others family members who are all illegitimate children of the Prince Regent. Victoria is a governess and it was in her job that she met Thomas Fletcher. He had tried to seduce her. She told her employer who told the man to leave her alone. That only angered him and made him stalk her more. One night she met him on the stairs where he attacked her. Pulling away from him, she kicked him sending him tumbling down the stairs. While she was exonerated by the magistrate, Fletcher’s father thinks she murdered him. Victoria’s half brothers and sisters care for her and offer to help her but she prefers to simply seek another job and maybe someday open a school. A sibling knows of a governess job in Scotland and thinks she would be perfect for it. Captain Alec Gilbride kindly offers to take Victoria to a castle where she will be working for Nicholas (Nick) Kendrick, the Earl of Arnprior. The man has 5 younger brothers and needs a teacher for them. Their ages range from 15 to 25. The oldest is Royal Kendrick who was injured at Waterloo and is a very moody man. Then, there is a set of twins in their early 20’s. After the twins is Braden who attends university studying to be a doctor. Victoria’s main student will be 15-year-old, Kade. He is an intelligent person and a gifted musician. However, he was ill in the past and needs extra care. At first glance, Nick Arnprior is not impressed with Victoria thinking she is small in stature and appears weak. Nick’s grandfather, Angus, and Victoria don’t get along right away either and all of the family members seem to challenge her. At first, she is ready to leave, but she decides to persevere and they all soon are quite taken with her. This is a delightful novel with lots of touching scenes of compassion and great humor. Watch for “Highlanders and sheep” and I’m betting it will make you laugh out loud just as I did. Vanessa Kelly has written a fabulous story here that is not to be missed. I loved it and know other readers will as well. Copy provided by NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I really enjoyed this story set in a remote castle in the Scottish Highlands. Vanessa Kelly does a great job of describing the Scottish countryside, the aging castle, and the wild bunch of Highlanders that is the Kendrick brothers. I felt that I could almost see the mountains, feel the brisk breeze off the loch, and hear the uproarious arguments of the brothers. Despite being a Scottish earl and the daughter of the future king, Nick and Victoria have not led charmed lives. Nick has known devastating grief, guilt, and the burden of responsibility for his entire family. He's at his wit's end about how to deal with his brothers, some of whom are troublemakers, others who just want to be left along, and the youngest who needs some tender care and a good governess. Victoria is an excellent governess, and due to a tragedy of her own, finds that time in the wilds of Scotland might be just what she needs. Having never known any benefits from being the Prince Regent's illegitimate daughter, she's no pampered miss. However, she's not sure she's up to the challenge of civilizing the earl's unruly brothers. There is a lot of humor in the story, as the brothers and Grandda Angus get into one scrape after another. But there are serious themes as well. Nick and Victoria have to grow to trust each other as they fall in love and share sizzling passion, and they have to learn to forgive when they feel that trust is broken. Danger is also lurking, and there is a good bit of action in the end. I'm also looking forward to more stories for the rest of the brothers.

You can't go wrong with a highlander romance. I love the characters. Love how she is expected to make the brothers presentable to polite company. Can't wait for stories about the brothers.

Vanessa Kelly writes the best historical romance! You are guaranteed to be drawn into the story and you never want to leave. Victoria Knight illegitimate daughter of the Prince Regent wants nothing more then to teach children and live a quite life. To avoid a scandal Victoria accepts a governess position in Scotland. Little does she know who her charges are and what she's required to teach. Nicholas Kendrick, Earl of Arnprior, heartache and anger took him off to war and away from his family and clan. The time away has has left his family in disarray and he's at his wits end with what to do with his brothers. A governess should do the trick and maybe he can then find a sensible and trustworthy wife for himself. When Victoria arrives she is nothing like Nick expected and now he has to convince her to stay and that she is needed. Nick and Victoria dance around their attraction for each other, the witty dialogue and family antics all come together to prove just how well they suit. But when the scandal comes to find Victoria the life she never knew could be hers starts to crumble around them all. The secondary characters in this book added so much fun and possibility for future books that I can't wait. Logan the brother sent away and told never to return. Royal, brooding and temperamental and distant. The twins Graeme and Grant always up to no good and running a mock on Kendrick land. Grumbling grandda Angus who does not want to give up the traditional ways of the highlands and then there's sweet Kade who I totally adore

The Highlander's Princess Bride is the third in the Improper Princesses series but is also a stand alone novel. Vanessa Kelly has a way of drawing the reader into the story so that you feel that you are part of it. This is a story of how a tragedy can lead to greater things. Victoria is the natural daughter of the Prince Regent and she is a governess with a dream of opening her own school. While defending herself against unwanted advances, she accidentally causes the death of her employers brother when he falls down the stairs. She is advised to leave London until the furor dies down and takes a position with a Scottish Laird to teach his younger brother music. Laird Nicholas also secretly wants the governess to help tame and teach his other brothers how to be gentlemen. Nicholas' wife and young son died in different instances and he is still grieving for his son and trying to take care of his estate and family. When Nicholas and Victoria meet there is an instant attraction but both have secrets that could derail their budding attraction. Along with the drama, there is a lot of laughs and comical moments in this story. I was provided a copy of this story from the author for a fair and honest review.

How could you not fall in love with the Kendrick family, even old Angus. When I started reading this story, I didn't want to put it down. Victoria has killed a man. It was an accident and he did deserve it, so she had to go away for a while so gossip would die down. She ends up in the middle of nowhere Scotland in a old castle with a crazy bunch of men who need someone to help order their lives. Several members of the family were reluctant at first, but soon Victoria had them wrapped around her finger. Nick has the weight of the world on his shoulders. He has had so many tragedies in his life and he just wants to get his family back on good footing. Then a little woman comes into his life and puts everything to right.

This series just keeps getting better and better! In the story of Nick and Victoria, she seems the ever so correct governess. Yet being around Nick makes her have very improper thoughts! As she weaves her spell over the Kendrick men, they slowly start to correct their behavior, all except Nick who can only think of anything BUT correct behavior when Victoria is around. I loved seeing Nick's granddad fall under her spell as well, I wasn't sure old Angus would come through. I still feel bad for Royal and I have a feeling he will have something to do with Ainsley's story! Loved the book and can't wait for the next one!

There's something about a guy with an accent that makes him swoon worthy. Add in the brooding attitude, scandalous behavior and a wildfire in the making and you get a hotblooded romance that wickedly entertains. The Highlander's Princess Bride is a journey into the past where titles are key and illegitimacy is a curse. Victoria is a source of courage to women from any age. She doesn't let the burden of her birth or the opinions of others take away her strength of character. She always stays true to herself, even in the worst of times. Vanessa Kelly continues to create courageous characters that tempt the imagination as they claw their way into the soul.
