Conrad Potter Aiken was born on August 5, 1889. Although he wrote novels, short stories, a play and an autobiography he found his true calling in his poetry for which he won the Pulitzer Prize in 1930. It is worth noting that within two years of graduating from Harvard he had published his first book and altogether wrote or edited over fifty. A complicated man with a somewhat complicated personal life he was also responsible for the major rehabilitation of Emily Dickinson
