Chapter One
Samuel ate ice cream in any kind of weather and in every season.
Ice cream was always on Samuel's mind. It didn't matter if he was at school listening to the teacher's lesson, with friends on the playground, or playing a sport. He was always thinking of ice cream.
One night, Samuel's mom said good night, kissed his forehead, and turned out the light. Samuel closed his eyes. Moments later, he was dreaming.
In his dream, Samuel was steering a boat made of dark chocolate. The sails were made of marshmallow. Looking over the edge, he could see he was sailing in melted blueberry ice cream. Everything in the dream seemed so real. Samuel could feel his heart beating with excitement.
Samuel could smell the chocolate fudge that was spewing from a large volcano made of chocolate chip cookies. Rocky road ice cream mountains were dressed with snow caps made of whipped cream.
In this ice cream land, rainbow sprinkles covered the ground like grass. Tree trunks were made of sugar cones. Gumdrops decorated the trees like leaves. Samuel was eager to get out of the boat and sample his surroundings.
Samuel tied the boat to a licorice dock. In front of him was a playground made of pretzels, Fruit Roll-Ups, and candy. In the middle stood a fountain with spouts pouring cookies and cream, mint, strawberry, chocolate, and vanilla ice cream.
