About the Author

Heather Hiestand was born in Illinois, but her family migrated west before she started school. Since then she has claimed Washington State as home, except for a few years in California. She wrote her first story at age seven and went on to major in creative writing at the University of Washington. Her first published fiction was a mystery short story, but since then her primary focus has been romance. Heather’s first published romance short story was set in the Victorian period, and she continues to return to historical fiction as well as other subgenres. The author of many novels, novellas, and short stories, she has achieved best-seller status at Amazon and Barnes and Noble. With her husband and son, she makes her home in a small town and supposedly works out of her tiny office, though she mostly writes in her easy chair in the living room.

This is book 4 in the Redcakes series. Dougal Alexander has been sent to find Lady Elizabeth Shield. After a year of looking for her, he has finally tracked her down. Before he can collect her and take her back to her family, she is taken by white slavers and he must rescue. Elizabeth is thankful that Dougal has saved her from the slavers, but she is not going back to her family. She doesn't belong there and they will never accept the baby she has taken as her own.  Will Dougal get Elizabeth back to her family or will their time together convince them both that they need something different than they thought? This was an enjoyable short read. I was still just as confused as to who was who during the story as I was when I read His Wicked Smile (I must find time to read the other books in the series!!!) I liked that Elizabeth wasn't afraid to get out of her comfort zone (a pampered young miss) and get a job to support the baby that she had taken in as her own. Definitely more depth to her than other girls in her position in life. I liked Dougal too. He liked what he did and he wasn't ashamed to work for a living. If you are looking for a quick enjoyable read, this is the book for you!! Thanks go to Kensington Books via NetGalley for a copy of the book in exchange of an honest review.

This was a sweet story. Heather has a good choice of people to write and the plot is serious enough to keep your attention. Beth is tired of being a forgotten wallflower. She runs to Scotland to get her friend to marry her. He won't so they live together. Dougal is hired to find her after her friend is found and put in Newgate Prison. There is a big spoiler here but you must read the book to see what it is. Dougal finds and saves her. He tells her brothers that he will marry her. He blows it big time. Please read this book. It is a novella and is a quick read. I hope you enjoy this story. I have this book for an honest review for NetGalley.

This was a good book and well written. I would have liked it to be a little bit longer, to let their love develop more. I was really looking forward to Elizabeth's story. From the other books she seemed like a nice, loving, little bit mischievous little sister. I was kind of disappointed that she came off as a selfish brat. All she really thought about was herself. She didn't find a husband her first season so she desides on marrying Freddie, and follows him to Scotland. Turns out that he doesn't want her. So instead of going home and facing the consequences of her actions she stays with him and basiclly forces him to look after her. She seduces Dougal purposely and then when he tells her brothers that he would marry her she accuses him of being a fortune hunter. To me that is her being a hypocrite. Her brothers worry about her, and half the time they don't know if she is dead or alive. If she had went home or at least tried to, she might not have been taken by white slavers and wouldn't have needed to be rescued. She kind of comes off as a "Oh whoa is me, I have to do this and this and this. My brothers aren't going to except me! Blah, blah, blah." When in fact she doesn't know this and in the end they do. In their stories they come off very much as family men and she makes them seem like the opposite of that. In the end when Dougal goes after her she makes the comment that she belongs with her family. I stopped at this and was like, REALLY! You could have fooled me, idiot. Kind of made me sad I didn't like her more, but I'm looking foward to Lewis's story. Hopefully if she's in it, she'll redeem herself some.

A gutsy hellion is being stalked by a sexy Inquiry Agent, white slave traders, shots fired & a drenching MISadventure across Scotland! Lady Elizabeth Shield had only 1 friend growing up, her mom, then her mom died, she was an after thought, an obligation & unwanted by her bossy & stuffy older brother, the Marques. After a lonely Season with only 2 "not gonna happen" suitors, she ran from London to Edinburgh into the arms of Manfred Cross, who also didn't want her, but he did allow her to live with him as a maid. Soon Manfred disappears, Beth (her chosen name) adopts her only friend's baby, after the prostitute dies & she is running out of money fast. Dougal Alexander is a 2nd son, but he is a successful Private Inquiry Agent. What does he inquiry, you may ask, PEOPLE! He has a superhuman ability of memorizing a whole person features with just a quick look, which comes in handing. For the past year he has been unsuccessful hunting for Lady Elizabeth, but he did slap the handcuffs on the "alleged" jewel thief, Manfred Cross. Dougal (yummy name) went to London & meets with his client, the Marques Hatbook, & when he sees the Marques & his brother together, he realized that he knew exactly where Lady Elizabeth was, in Edinburgh at Manfred's flat. So off people hunting Dougal goes. Beth is starving & so is her baby, Harriet, so she has kindly Mrs. Sharp to babysit, so off to the market she goes. Poor Beth is stalked, kidnapped by white slave traders, knocked upside her head & dump into a smelly warehouse with no help of being rescued, so she will just have to do it all by herself, after a short nap. When Dougal arrives at Beth's building, potatoes & crushed green matter are lying all over the stairs, her flat has been trashed & she is no where in sight. Thus begins their MISadventurous trek of dodging slave traders, weaving in & out of the line of pistol shots, a hellion determined to get back to her baby, a stolen cart & horse, a hard & knee melting kiss delivered with great style via Dougal, not just 1 drenching rainfall (HELLO my peeps, it's Scotland), but 2, a brotherly Baron, an amazing night of seduction arranged by the fearless Beth & why or why do brothers arrive at the absolutely wrong time. Will Beth go back to being unseen? Can Dougal show Beth that she is SEEN & loved by him? How will her family feel about Harriett, Beth's child of her heart? When will Redcakes yummy sweets be a part of this charming story? How will 2 stupid brothers (men always do) screw this up? This romance read is book #4 in the charming & always makes me hungry Redcakes series. Each book is so different, can stand alone & Ms. Hiestand's characters always pull you into her stories, kicking & screaming if needed. This was my favorite book in the series because is was quick paced adventures, had an over looked heroine who would not confirm to Society & a extremely sexy self made man as a hero. Beth was raised by her Society conscious mother, her 1 only friend, but after her mom died, she was lost & all their plans for her future with her. Dougal (I gets shivers down my spine for this name) is a 2nd son, who really didn't need to support himself, but he wanted to walk his way & have a purpose in life. Beth & Dougal both had a SCREAMING voice in their lives called PURPOSE, TO MATTER! Not a common goal to have in 1800s Society in England! Ms. Hiestand did a page turning seduction by "I don't know what I am doing" Beth, but it so worked for this romance & poor Dougal was HOOKED! There was adrenaline filled pages, dastardly villains, a gutsy heroine who did anything for her adopted child, the pantie dropping smile of Dougal, that my peeps will feel down to your toes & Ms. Hiestand's HILARIOUSNESS aplenty. Only 1 thing was missing from this Scottish tale, no KILT wearing Scot any where, so I hope Ms. Hiestand learns that all stories in Scotland need a KILT! I give this action packed romance of Ms. Hiestand a score of 4 fingers up & 8 toes & I loved & hated the next Redcakes book teaser at the end! NetGalley ARC given for honest review.
