I almost did not purchase this book because I am very particular about my authors and do not usually venture out for new ones. There was also a negative review and while the review was correct on the aspect of a few issues with the book, it wasn't enough to keep me from LOVING this story! I have since read all three of the books in this series and I like when an author incorporates earlier characters in later books as the series goes along. If the author were to add another book to this series I would definitely be reading it and I think I have added a new author to my list!

Loved this book.... well developed characters, great storylines, intense hot chemistry between paine and anin, supporting characters i cant wait to read more about, and the bonus of all, its a FULL length novel, NOT one of those books that are barely 150 pages but claim to be full length that im always disappointed in.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review... I have been a Donna Fletcher fan for years and I was really excited for the series to come out. She does an amazing job with this story! It's not your typical highland romance, which is refreshing. I always am a little skeptical of stories that contain the paranormal, but this is one that ties the mysticism in with the historical time period seamlessly. The heroine, Anin, is strong and courageous in her own way and Paine is a fantastic hero for the beginning of this series. I cannot wait to read the rest of this series!

I guess I get what I deserve since I bought this book mainly because of the cover. I never, never do that and wow, that guy is hot but I wish I could return it. I'm not sure who actually wrote this book either because its nothing like other Donna Fletcher books and I've read a few. Could have been great. I loved that Paine was an executioner and that it was about Picts. There were problems though. Why do their eye colors change back and forth? Hers are blue and his are green until 1/3 through and then they switch. Paine could have been much fiercer since he was supposed to be so feared. Anin was a big giant wimp as well and never really found her courage. The language was off too which Fletcher usually does well. Disappointing.

Once again Donna Fletcher delivers a riveting novel with great characters. This book is the first of 3 in this series. In it you are introduced to Paine and Anin. Two people who are definitely polar opposites in the eyes of everyone. Anin has a sweet and kind nature. Often keeping to herself and more comfortable in the forest than with people. She has always felt like an outcast and that she is different from everyone because of her ability to feel others emotions. Taught from a young child to hide these abilities and to never let anyone know what she can do, she is now afraid to touch others. When word arrives that she is to marry the King her father and brothers are overjoyed, but her mother protests it and sends Anin away to save her from that fate. Paine is the King's Executioner. He is feared by men and women for his tenacity, size, strength, and ability to show no emotion at all. He has been sent to retrieve Anin and bring her to the King, but when he arrives in her village it is to find that the mother has sent her away. When questioned she tells him she does not know where her daughter has gone, and while he believes that he also sees that she is hiding a secret about Anin. When he realizes where she would have gone he sets out to find his prey, but is not prepared to met Anin and deal with the emotions she stirs in him. When Anin is found by the king's executioner she does not know how to respond. She has never met someone who is so cold and devoid of emotion. And yet she is still drawn to him. As she accepts her fate to be Queen and begins traveling with Paine to her destiny little does she realize the he is her destiny. As the two travel together they fall more and more under each others spell. Paine begins feeling things that he thought long dead, but the feelings do them no good as she is promised to another. When they finally arrive on the King's land it is with the knowledge that neither will be happy without the other and how do they stop not only her marriage to the King, but keep her safe from the tribe that is determined to kill her. I was extremely satisfied with the characters both main and supporting and I am looking forward to the next in the series.

The King’s Executioner by Donna Fletcher, is the first book in her latest series, “Pict King” Full disclosure, I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review I was not sure what to expect from this novel when I first started to read it. I am a fan of Donna Fletcher’s books; however I was a little worried that the whole “two very different people fall in love on a journey” had been played out before and the story would be stale. I am happy to say this is not the case. I really enjoyed this book; it is fast paced and a fun, interesting read. Once again Donna Fletcher has done a remarkable job creating main characters that are unique and do not fall into the standard romance hero/heroine. Anin and Paine are complex characters that are still relatable. Anin does not fit in anywhere, not with her family or her tribe, and Paine has shut himself down emotionally so he can handle his job as the king’s executioner. The journey they take together has a lot of action and a good amount of romance thrown in. There is also a magical element that adds a whole new dimension to the book. I highly recommend this novel and I am looking forward to the next two books.

What at great story line. Loved it from beginning to end. I wasn't sure before I started reading it as it wasn't a highlander story, but I was so wrong. The kings executioner is bringing the daughter of Overlord of the Western Region to marry the King Talon. Their interactions between Paine and Anin and the great story line will make you devour this book from beginning to end.

The King's Executioner Pict King, #1 by Donna Fletcher, is a fantastic new Medieval Historical Romance Trilogy. Featuring the formidable Anin, daughter of Cathbad, Overlord of the Western Region and Paine, King Talon of the Pict Kingdom's, executioner. Anin's father agrees for his daughter to wed King Talon, however, her mother, Blyth, refuses. So she sends Anin away, at a great risk for herself. King Talon sends his executioner to fetch Anin back, even if he must torture her mother to get the whereabouts of her young daughter. What follows is a mesmerizing tale! Fast paced, adventure filled tale with, a bit of paranormal elements, danger around every bend, magical influence, secrets, betrayal and treason. I enjoyed how Anin finds her inner voice, and strength and how Paine learns to love again and finds his inner peace and acceptance, which makes is an intriguing romance. Together, these two totally different personalities, find their inner peace, fight their attraction, find an evil plot to take over a Kingdom and possibly commit treason, themselves. But can their blossoming romance heed the warning presenting itself, Anin belongs to King Talon or face execution? Can they stop an assassination attempt before it occurs? Can Paine save Anin from her enemies and help her fulfill a secret she didn't know existed? There are many secrets, hidden dangers and challenges, Paine and Anin face. The King's Executioner by Donna Fletcher Pict King Series Book One Anin's mum was from the Lammock Tribe, women warriors. And she is now to be wed to King Talon, ruler of the Pict tribes, who most likely thought he'd be getting a tough warrior woman. Surprise. Her mum sent her off to hide from the king's man, just like she always had Anin hide who she really was. Paine was feared by all. Where he went—pain and death followed. His latest mission for King Talon should have been easy. Get the future queen and deliver her to the king. It wasn't so cut and dried. The soon-to-be-queen was much more than he expected. This tale is about the Picts—Painted People. A culture that did really exist and this author brings back to life in this fiction story. I loved this story and can't wait for the rest of the series; The King's Warrior (Wrath's story) and The King and His Queen (King Talon's story). *Sexual content

I received this book in exchange for an honest review 'The King's Executioner' by Donna Fletcher is the first book in the "Pict King" series. It is also the story of Anin and Paine. This was another of Ms. Fletcher books that I could not put down and had to read it in one sitting. Paine is very harsh at first but it doesn't take long for you to fall in love with him. Anin has been ordered to marry King Talon. But Anin and her mother both know that this is not a good thing for Anin to do. So Anin eaves and tries to go to her mother's original home. But Paine has come for her and plans to take her back to King Talon. Anin settles into the knowledge that she will have to go to the King to become his wife. Paine is the Kings 'executioner', 'enforcer' and is being sent to track down Anin. Paine is to return her to the King so that the King may take her as a wife. Pain and Anin while trying to return to the King find trouble at every turn... It seems Anin is in danger. Paine is trying to protect her, which is causing him to have strong feelings for her. Paine finds that he is having a hard time in fighting his feelings. Anin too, is finding that she has become attached to Pain. Can they part ways when and if they make it to the King? https://romancebookreviewforyou.wordp...

Such a unique and intruiging story with thoroughly lovable characters and an underlying mystery that adds just the right flavor for this spicy hot romance. One of my favourite romances and definitely one of Donna's best! Some editing errors, but I was told they will be corrected. Don't miss out!!!
