SOMETIMES THE PAIN OF LIFE BRINGS A NEW BEGINNING...

Widower Dominic Dunn isn't sure what to think of his wife's pre-planned trip for him a year after her death. It's her effort to force him from his work desk to the coast and the peacefulness she'd found at the Carolina Cove Inn.

Innkeeper Ireland Cohen is a single mom with an impressionable son, and after the kid gets
himself into trouble, Dominic offers to lend a hand. It's the least he can do when Ireland was such a good friend to his wife after her diagnosis.

As the hot summer days at the beach turn into breezy evenings, Ireland and Dominic find their shared memories and friendship turning into more. They're drawn to each other, fighting an attraction neither of them want because of their pasts.

He's only visiting, and Ireland has a strict rule about dating tourists. But as his trip draws to a close, they both wonder—is this their last goodbye?

About the Author

Kay Lyons always wanted to be a writer, ever since the age of seven or eight when she copied the pictures out of a Charlie Brown book and rewrote the story because she didn’t like the plot. Through the years her stories have changed but one characteristic stayed true— they were all romances. Each and every one of her manuscripts included a love story.

?Published in 2005 with Harlequin Enterprises, Kay’s first release was a national bestseller. Kay has also been a HOLT Medallion, Book Buyers Best and RITA Award nominee. Before Dominic's wife died, she made arrangements for him to take a vacation at the shore, to mirror one that she had taken with a girlfriend after her diagnosis. He shows up at the inn, not intending to stay for more than a day or so, but Lisa had prepaid for the suite for two weeks. As he talks to Ireland, the innkeeper, and her son, Samuel, and thinks about the letter from Lisa, maybe he'll stick around for a bit longer. Ireland is a single mom, working at her family's inn, struggling to keep up with her son. Samuel's father isn't in the picture any longer, and he could use some male guidance. Dominic and Ireland are so attracted to each other, but afraid to move forward. He's only there for a short time - she doesn't date tourists. He's still mourning the loss of his wife - she has trust issues stemming from her ex-husband. They agree to "practice date" - it won't really count for anything or go anywhere, and both of them have rusty flirting/dating skills. What is one of them falls in love? What if they both do? I love the characters, both perfectly imperfect. Ireland is stronger than she thinks. Dominic is such a great role model for Samuel. Her sisters are just terrific! I love their "spot" where they go to meet. The book is not very long, but has just the right amount of background information. The story is so sweet. And have lots of tissues ready when Dominic reads the last letter from Lisa. This is my first book from this author, and it's a great opener to this new series. I'm looking forward to the next book with London. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I enjoyed this sweet and well-written story by new to me author Kay Lyons. The Last Goodbye takes place on the coastal side of North Carolina. In the summer, the area is flooded with tourists and during the off season the locals get to relax a bit. Ireland Cohen is a single mom and an innkeeper. Her ex did quite a number on her, so she is very cautious about getting involved again. Then Dominic Dunn walks into her life and all bets are off. Dominic is a widower and has two grown children. His wife Lisa passed away about a year ago. She loved the coast and the Carolina Cove Inn. Before she died, she planned an all expense paid trip for Dominic to her favorite inn. Lisa knew he would still be grieving, and was hopeful that her friend Ireland and the ocean could bring him out of his sadness. In a very short time, Ireland and Dominic develop feelings for each other and decide to embark on a relationship. I liked this book and all the characters in it. Ireland and her sisters are a fun bunch and they each are terrific in their own right. I enjoyed their camaraderie and the way they challenged each other. Dominic is a true romantic and his thoughtfulness was brilliant. This is the first book from the Seaside Sisters series and it can be read as a standalone. Complimentary copy provided by the publisher via NetGalley.

This is the first book I’ve read by Kay Lyons and I loved her writing. I’m looking forward to reading more of her books. Widower Dominic Dunn comes to the Carolina Cove Inn a year after his wife, Lisa’s death. She left him a letter and wanted him to visit the place that brought her happiness, after her diagnosis. Ireland Cohen, single mom to Samuel, is the manager of the Inn. Samuel misses a male role model in his life, since his dad has a new family and doesn’t have time for him anymore. Dominic fills this role while he’s there. When Dominic starts to have romantic feelings towards Ireland, he feels guilty. Will he give them a chance to see where these feelings go or will he hightail it back to Atlanta and immerse himself in more work? No spoilers, so grab your copy of this new series and meet all the Cohen sisters so you can look forward to reading each of their stories too. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
