The Last King opens up a new series from bestselling author, Katee Robert. The King family's past is rife with hatred and betrayal. When Beckett King inherits the family company, Morningstar Enterprise, his aunt, and head of a rival company, sets out to take it from him. Samara Mallick, Lydia King's go-to woman, isn't willing to believe that her boss will risk everything just to take revenge upon the family that disowned her. But the more Samara is pulled into Beckett's orbit and sees the vicious attacks mounting against him, she realizes she may not know her boss as well as she thinks. I love this cast of complex characters with complicated relationships. The Kings are a dysfunctional family whose issues go deeper than the past. Even Samara's past has a direct impact on the decisions she makes throughout the story. Their fears hinder their path to happiness under the guise of protecting themselves from hurt, but when Samara and Beckett put their professional rivalry aside they also find a semblance of peace. Beckett and Samara have an interesting courtship starting with a secret tryst that turns into a smoldering relationship once Beckett breaks down all her barriers. Their relationship is about trust and I loved seeing them learn to trust each other despite doubt and insecurities. The Last King has Katee Robert's signature style of getting to the point of the story while giving readers every bit of sexy along the way. Throw in a little corporate intrigue and this becomes an engaging read for romance readers of all kinds. Readers will not be disappointed in this new series at all! *ARC provided in consideration for review*

If you're a fan of hot, steamy romance novels with alpha males and strong women this one's for you. The Last King (The Kings #1) has it all, interesting story line, great characters with loads of chemistry, family drama and a bit of mystery thrown in. This is only the second Katee Robert book I've read but I'm already a huge fan and eagerly awaiting the next installment in the King Family series.

If you like any of Katee’s other series you will love this one to. Beckett and Samara hate this hate/strongly dislike of each other. They both were always going after the same thing. One thing lead to many twist, turns, greed, payback, trust, happiness and love. I can’t wait for the next book in this series.

4 1/2 STARS! Electrifyingly intense! Katee Robert's has a magical way of introducing us into a new world that makes us feel like we've been there forever! With this novel, she is kicking off The Kings series and taking us into the heart of the King family where feuding and backstabbing has been a way of life. She weaves intrigue into the story in a way that has us waiting for the next shoe to fall around every corner. The characters are complex and exciting and the story left me wanting the next book ... soon! They've been butting heads for years, but the first person Beckett King thinks of when he finds himself overwhelmed dealing with his recent inheritance of his father's business, assets and enemies is Samara Mallick. They work for opposite sides of a feuding family and have stared each other down in competition after competition in the business world, but it doesn't stop them from sharing a powerful lust for one another that might be one of their undoings! Samara is fiercely loyal to the person who gave her so many opportunities to get to the point in her career that she has reached today, and she won't just turn her head while someone threatens their downfall. She feels like she's being torn between two sides ... and one minute her allegiance is strong for her employer, but then she's in Beckett's arms and he's showing her his side of it all in the most sensual ways! Their connection is strong, but one side is going to fall and from the way things are stacking up, when it does, it's going to cause an aftershock that will be felt by many. Can they outrun the danger they find themselves exposed to in time to see justice served?

The last king is a fast paced mystery and love story. Samara and Beckett have come up against each other a lot through the years. Working for two companies that compete for the oil market, they fight to get the contracts, but one night they let all that energy focus on something else they can’t deny: their attraction. When Beckett’s father dies suddenly and he has to take over the company Samara is tasked by his aunt and competition, and Samara’s boss, to try and distract Beckett and get as much information about the company. The Last King is part corporative spionage, part epic love story. Beckett has to decide who he can trust and who’s after him and Samara’s loyalty is tested when she has to decide between her company and the guy she likes. I was hooked from the start with the relationship between these two. I mean, the chemestry if off the charts and both are confident, but not coming across as arrogant about what their strenghs are and how they go after what they want. In many ways they are the perfect fit for each other. They can push each other to do better and their competition makes them clash harder when they get to the bedroom (or whatever room they find). Watching them trying to figure out how to move forward and weather they could trust in each other was a bit painful (I’m impatient) but so perfect. While the book has a fast pace, their relationship develops nicely, they already know each other so it makes it easier for them to move that way. Samara’s reservations were understandable and easy to relate, and Becket while determined, never came off as pushy in their relationship. I loved how they could be these cold corporate people and then so caring and vulnerable when alone. The Last King is a great start to this new series and introduces a dangerous world, and lots of characters I can’t wait to see more of.

The Last King was not all that I thought it would be. Based off of the synopsis I thought I was getting a romance between to rivals/enemies, and while that is true, there’s so much more to it than that. Right from the start these two heat up the pages. So much so that I kind of felt disconnected from it all. Like, maybe this was a spin-off and these two have history I should know about. However, the beginning acts as more of a prelude to the series itself, which is when pieces started to fall in place for me. I really like that even though this is a romance, there was a lot of suspense and mystery involved. Someone is gunning for Beckett, and it became crystal clear that they wanted him out of the picture for good in order to get their hands on his company. All fingers point to his estranged aunt who was shunned by her family when she was younger, but is it really her or is someone else looking to take over the family business? Poor Beckett just lost his father, and is now, all of a sudden, dodging attacks left and right. I was always wondering when the next shoe was going to drop. The relationship between these two characters was explosive. There was clearly a lot of chemistry there, but they worked for opposing companies. Beckett ran the family business, and Samara worked for his estranged aunt. So, it was understandable that Samara fought the attraction and relationship, because she wasn’t willing to put her career at stake over a guy. However, I loved that Beckett was persistent and that they were able to find a balance in the end because these two were adorable together. There are also some secondary characters that pop up that you don’t really know too much about, but you know they are going to get their own story. One of which is this shady dude who has eyes everywhere. Like, the moment Beckett calls him up with a favor, he already knows the ins and outs of the situation and “has a guy on it”. You just know that his story is going to be a good one, and I’m so excited that his is the next book in the series! The Last King is a great start to a fun new series. I’m not sure if all of them will have suspense in them, but I really like the way the author has set the board. It will be interesting to see all the characters she brings in, and what their stories are.

He looked like a drowning man clinging to life preserver and watching a mountain of a wave descend upon him. Lost. Found. All at the same time. In Katee Robert's latest novel, The Last King, she grabs you by the proverbial ankles and hauls you right into her world! Being a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author she’s really great at what she does and on top of that she always finds a way to surprise you with something original, packed with drama and love and a strong set of characters, this one is no different. We meet the two main characters, Beckett King and Samara Mallick, two powerful respectable personas in their respective positions at two opposite companies at the forefront of the oil industry. Being powerful and born into the right family means you sometimes have it easy and sometimes a little harder than it should be. Beckett King was born a King and with such a name comes a lot of responsibly. He’s brilliant and fearless when going after what he wants and doesn’t back down for anyone else. Or so he thinks. Samara is a wonderful breath of fresh air and she presents every kind of ability you’d want as someone’s main female character. Strong-willed and not anyone’s walkover, she manages to make you love her ever more. The story backdates to something that happened 30 years ago and still the consequences are felt years later. There is enough of everything to keep you well hooked on this story! This book is an absolutely unexpected surprise wrapped between two covers! Worth 5-unforgettable stars! **Review by Angelique, Late Night Reviewer for Up All Night w/ Books**

I really enjoyed this first book in a new series. I enjoyed meeting some of the other characters that will be in later books as well. Overall, this was a great start! Beckett King is an orphan. His mom died when he was a kid. He and his dad weren't close, but his dad was still there. Until he wasn't. Now Beckett has to run the family company, and keep things afloat, while his dad's enemies come at him from all sides. He isn't sure who he can trust, but he knows he CAN'T trust his estranged family. But, he might be able to trust the woman who's always been honest with him, even while they were competing in business time and time again, Samara. He needs help, and he thinks she can give it. But will she be willing? Samara Mallick is the right hand of her boss, and in direct competition with Beckett King's business. But, that hasn't stopped the attraction they feel for each other. Samara wants to hate Beckett every time he beats her out for a contract, or shows his arrogant side. But, really she respects the way he does business, especially in the ways he's different from his father. The fact that he's a beautiful man doesn't help her cause either. When Beckett needs her help, she's not sure she should give it. But, ultimately, she goes with her gut, in life and in business, and she can't turn him down. Beckett and Samara's chemistry was on fire from the very beginning. Their interactions were always hot, and even when they were only partially satisfying, they were hotter for each other than ever. I loved watching them work their way through all the people and things keeping them apart, and ultimately decide what was right for them, regardless of outside influences. The side characters here were quite intriguing as well. Beckett's cousin, and Samara's best friend, Journey, is a very interesting woman, and Beckett's best friend Frank is quite the enigma as well. Their book is next, and I cannot wait to learn more about each of them. I'm also very interested in Journey's oldest brother, and how he'll deal with everything that happened, going forward. I'm so into this family, and their insane issues. I am here for it. I want them to all learn to be family to each other when they haven't been in so long. I'm hoping that will happen going forward. I loved Beckett and Samara's story and I really hope we get more peeks at them throughout the series to come. I can already tell that Journey's story will cause all the FEELS and I'm so looking forward to it. I can't believe it won't be until 2019! Can't wait.

The Last King was a mix of many things, a bit of suspense, betrayal, treachery, sexy times and a whole lot of dysfunction. I loved watching the main characters Beckett and Samara navigate their way through it while falling for each other. I also loved the secondary characters and can't wait to read their stories. All in all I found this book enjoyable and I definitely recommend it. ARC provided by publisher through Net Galley in exchange for a honest review

THE LAST KING by Katee Robert is the First book in The Kings Series. This is the story of Beckett King and Samara Mallick. Beckett just inherited his fathers Morningstar empire which has left him wealthy but he feels that something else is going on with his father's death. Samara works for Kingdom Corp which Beckett's Aunt runs. There is no love lost between the Aunt and Beckett. This has caused Samara and Beckett to but heads when going toe to toe for the same contract. But when Beckett needs someone by his side that he can trust, he knows that Samara is that person. This was a exciting enemies to lovers story. Ms. Robert is a author I know will bring me a great story...one of my 'go to' authors.

4 stars--exciting, suspense filled story of betrayal and vengeance THE LAST KING is the first instalment in Katee Robert’s contemporary, adult THE KINGS erotic, romance series focusing on the King siblings and cousins. This is businessman Beckett King, and Samara Mallick’s story line. Told from several third person points of view including Beckett and Samara THE LAST KING follows the building relationship between business rivals Beckett King, and Samara Mallick. With the recent, and questionable death of his father Nathaniel King, Beckett King was now CEO of Morningstar Enterprises but a change to his late father’s will found the family owned Villa went to his father’s estranged sister Lydia King- CEO of Kingdom Corp, and a woman whose reputation in the business was as fierce as his father’s. With a bid for a large oil contract on the horizon, Beckett King will come face to face with the woman who has starred in all of his fantasies since their one-night stand six months earlier- Samara Mallick-his aunt’s employee and overly protective assistant. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Beckett and Samara; and the increasing threats against Beckett King’s life as he begins looking into the events surrounding his father’s demise. Samara Mallick is good at her job and her earlier hunger to win comes across as cold and malevolent but her attraction to Beckett is complicating her relationship with Lydia King-an attraction that Lydia is determined to use against her grieving nephew. Lydia is a power hungry CEO who will do anything to get back what she thinks she deserves, and gaining control of the Morningstar empire is on the top of the list. Beckett King knows that not all is well with the King family dynamics but his investigation into his father’s death reveals an inside connection that has targeted Beckett himself. Beckett is captivated by Samara Mallick, a captivation that could go horribly wrong, if Samara becomes collateral damage in the family feud. The relationship between Beckett and Samara is one of immediate attraction; a forbidden romance between competitors in the high-stakes world of oil and finance. Beckett suspects that Samara has become a puppet and a pawn but Samara refuses to be controlled by anyone including the man with whom she is falling in love. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic, and intense. The chemistry is palpable between our leading couple. We are introduced to Beckett’s best friend, business owner and security expert Frank Evans, as well as Beckett’s cousins Anderson and Journey (Samara’s best friend), and Beckett’s aunt Lydia King. Journey and Frank’s story line is next. The world building focuses on the fractured family dynamics of the King family that go back several generations affecting each successive generation in its wake. Jealousy and rivals; infidelity and threats mar relationships that would have been better off never existing. THE LAST KING is an exciting, suspense filled story of betrayal and vengeance; a broken family cursed by jealousy, hatred and greed but a story that is all too predictable about the who, how and why. The premise is entertaining and engaging; the characters are charismatic, enchanting and intelligent; the romance is seductive and provocative.

The Last King by Katee Robert is the first book in her brand new series, The Kings . A story of family, feuding, betrayal, danger, redemption & love. A little bit nail-biting and a whole lot sexy, this new series is off to a fabulous start. Beckett King has his sights set on Samara. A woman completely off-limits. Practically his mortal enemy, but resistance is futile. She is smart, sexy, and is everything he never knew he wanted in a partner. Samara can't resist Beckett King. She has tried but the more she actually gets to know him the more she realizes he is nothing like his aunt, her boss, and vicious rival to Beckett's company painted him to be. He is a compassionate person not capable of stooping to the level that some of his estranged family members have done. Page-turning, perfectly paced, told in dual POV and does NOT have a cliffhanger ending. This is Beckett & Samara's story. Loved it! Enjoy!

Another awesome book from Katee Robert and a great start to a new series! I have to admit, I always hate when an author finishes a series. It’s so hard to say goodbye to the characters and the world they’ve created. And Katee did one heck of a job with her O’Malleys series. But this first glimpse of The Kings she’s given us has made me eager to get to know the rest of the clan. If they are anything like Beckett King...! Both main characters are interesting, and I appreciated how well rounded they were. You really got a chance to know the characters, what shaped them, what drove them. And Beckett definitely has hefted the bar high for the rest of his family. The guy was smart, driven, caring, tough and tender. Samara was one lucky woman. She was also pretty darn kick-ass herself: focused, determined and smart. Her relationship with her amma was touching, too. And best of all, both characters acted like adults. There were no games, no misunderstandings. They were mature and honest with one another. That isn’t to say there wasn’t drama and intrigue. The book offered up plenty of that, too, along with secondary characters I’m anxious to get to know better. And I can’t forget to mention the steamy interludes. The book starts off with a passionate encounter between Beckett and Samara, and just gets hotter and hotter. So while I’ll miss the O’Malleys, I’m happy to say that the Kings seem more than capable of giving us more heat, heart and suspense.

Fabulous start to this series! The Last King is well written and will captivate you from the very first page. The characters will make you devour each word and leave you begging for more. From secrets to family drama, to undeniable chemistry and some seriously hot moments, this book hits all the marks! The Last King is the first book in an exciting and thrilling new series from author Katee Robert and I for one can not wait to see where this series will go next!

Exciting and sexy start to a new series! Beckett's father dies under suspicious circumstances and the terms of the will leave a lot of questions, especially regarding what's been left to his estranged Aunt Lydia. Often competing for the same contracts, Lydia's employee Samara and Beckett have been at odds for years, though recently not so keen at denying their attraction. Smoking hot love scenes, suspenseful moments and a 'who done it' atmosphere pervade the story as it becomes clear someone wants Beckett completely out of the picture. While Beckett may be the last of the Kings under his father's line of succession, Lydia has four children and there are some good hints as to what is to come in the series. The plot is neatly wrapped up here and the HEA is well deserved for Beckett and Samara. Looking forward to reading more of the series!

I love this cover! This is not an MC read but our main character does ride a Harley. In fact, Bennett's character was a good mix of motorcycle bad boy and rich corporate suit. They are my favorite types of Hero's. Bennett just inherited his family company after his father dies in a car accident. There is not a lot of love lost between him and his father, but the accident sounds suspicious. When a series of events start happening soon after, Bennett knows he needs to investigate before he ends up like his father. Samara is the right hand woman to Lydia King. She's hard working and loyal. She should not give into her attraction to Lydia's nephew, Bennett. He's the son of the enemy and competition to Lydia's company. When Lydia keeps throwing her in the path of Bennett to attain information, she knows she has to be careful or she will be collateral damage between the two powerful family members. Bennett and Samara have been fighting their mutual attraction from the beginning. Bennett should be concentrating on the suspicious nature of his father's death and the recent change to his will. He should not be caring more about getting Samara to fall for him. This is a great start to what looks like a new family drama series by Katee Robert. We got introduced to several side characters that will make for a great main character in future books. I'm looking forward to seeing where the author takes this. ARC provided by NetGalley.

Another intense read from Ms. Robert! The Last King is a dramatic start to her latest series to star a wealthy but incredibly dysfunctional family (reminiscent of her O'Malley's, but with more of a legal business slant to it--probably?) Beckett and Samara are highly likable characters and their chemistry is explosive--they weren't very good at resisting each other during the time frame of the book, though, so their "we shouldn't be doing this" and "this has to stop" protests pretty much lost all their credibility early on. There was plenty of real danger involved, though--mostly from the villain who is established early on in the book. At times (toward the end especially) it seemed a bit over the top, but it was still a heck of a lot of fun to read. Can't wait for the next book, which is teased heavily here! Rating: 4 stars / B+ I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
