Overview

“Thrilling. . . . a must-read!” — Mary Kubica
“Masterful.” — Wendy Walker
“I couldn’t put it down.” — Joseph Finder

In a world of wealth and privilege, a killer is hiding . . .

The internationally bestselling author of The Last Mrs. Parrish follows that success with an addictive novel filled with shocking twists about the aftermath of a brutal high-society murder.

Dr. Kate English has it all. Not only is she the heiress to a large fortune; she has a gorgeous husband and daughter, a high-flying career, and a beautiful home anyone would envy.

But all that changes the night Kate’s mother, Lily, is found dead, brutally murdered in her own home. Heartbroken and distraught, Kate reaches out to her estranged best friend, Blaire Barrington, who rushes to her side for the funeral, where the years of distance between them are forgotten in a moment.

That evening, Kate’s grief turns to horror when she receives an anonymous text: You think you’re sad now, just wait. By the time I’m finished with you, you’ll wish you had been buried today. More than ever, Kate needs her old friend’s help.

Once Blaire decides to take the investigation into her own hands, it becomes clear that all is not as it seems in Baltimore high society. As infidelity, lies, and betrayals come to light, and tensions rise to a boiling point, she begins to alienate Kate’s friends and relatives with her relentless, accusatory questions, as she tries to find Lily’s killer. The murderer could be anyone—friend, neighbor, loved one. But whoever it is, it’s clear that Kate is next on their list. . .

In The Last Time I Saw You, Liv Constantine takes the lightning pace of The Last Mrs. Parrish and raises the stakes, creating an exquisitely tension-filled and absorbing tale of psychological suspense in which innocent lives—and one woman’s sanity—hang in the balance.

This story follows Dr. Kate English after her mother, Lily, is found brutally murdered. Overwhelmed by the death of her mother, Kate reaches out to Blaire (her estranged childhood friend) for help. Blaire vows to help find the killer of the only woman who ever felt like a mother to her. At the funeral Kate starts getting threating messages that leads her to believe she may be next. Kate has dealt with anxiety her whole life so this is just enough to send her over the edge. Between the possibility of her husband having an affair and her suspecting the Nanny trying to make her look crazy, Kate's not sure there's anyone in her life she can trust. This story is perfectly suspenseful with multiple twists. The plot keeps you hooked while you get to know all the characters and you're left on the edge of your seat while trying to figure out what happened to Lily and who's threatening Kate. I did find one twist predictable, but it didn't prevent me from enjoying the others. While you wait to see multiple story lines unfold you get to know both Kate and Blaire while growing up. While you can't help but feel sympathetic towards Blaire for her constant abandonment, something about her just feels a bit off. This story really makes you wonder which is more important, nature or nurture? This book does have a lot of different story lines and family drama, which may be a bit to much for some. Even though there was so much going on, I still really enjoyed the way everything was wrapped up. You are not left wanting anything in the end, and it was one of the few books that left me completely satisfied. There wasn't one thing I would have changed about the ending.

The Last Time I Saw you started out strong and grabbed my attention from the first page...unfortunately the last 2/3 of the book were a let down. Dr. Kate English’s affluent mother Lily has been murdered and now the killer is targeting Kate. Kate’s previously estranged best friend and best selling crime author, Blaire has returned for Lily’s funeral and is now staying with Kate and her family in the wake of the tragedy. Blaire has also vowed to help Kate find Lily’s killer. As the killer continues to taunt Kate by sending her threatening emails, texts and nasty surprises, she begins to question everyone and everything around her. This book had a lot of promise. I found the beginning strong and I was interested in figuring out “whodunnit”. However, there were so many plot holes and inconsistencies that I just couldn’t ignore. The second half of the book was repetitive and slow. I also didn’t find it plausible that a wife would suspect her husband of murdering her mother but at the same time allow him to continue living in their home with their child. Lastly, one of the two major plot twists could be seen from a mile away. I don’t want to give away any spoilers but the ending felt rushed and it seemed as though the authors didn’t have a solid conclusion in mind, so they decided to give us several loosely tied ends. I think some readers will enjoy this book, especially if they’re newer to the thriller genre. However, if you read a lot of mystery/thrillers, I’d skip this one. Thank you to Netgalley, HarperCollins, and Liv Constantine for allowing me to read and review this arc. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Kate English, a successful physician, is attending the funeral of her beloved mother, Lily. With Kate is her husband, Simon, and her father, Harrison. Her parents have always been devoted to one another. Wealthy, they have always been involved in philanthropic endeavors. It appears that Lily had been murdered while alone in her home. Who could have done such a horrible thing to such a wonderful woman? Kate and Simon are the parents of Annabelle, age 4. They have been having marital problems and Kate is considering divorcing him. At the reception after the funeral, Kate’s old friend, Blaine, arrives and theirs is a bittersweet reunion. They had grown up together but an argument some years ago left them estranged. Now, they are happy to be together again. Blaine is a successful author and loved Lily too. She has decided to take some time off from her work to help Kate through her grief. When Kate starts receiving sick texts and even sicker items start showing up in her house with notes telling her she is going to die, she can’t help but wonder if there is someone in her own home who wants her dead. She calls the police and hires security guards to be both inside and outside the house. As things escalate, Kate’s is consumed by her anxiety and does not know whom she can trust, as she soon begins to suspect everyone. But why? This is a great mystery/thriller that keeps the reader guessing and looking over their own shoulder. The tension builder is just the right amount to have you sitting on the edge of your seat. Characters are well written and give us a glimpse into the life of the wealthy. Enjoy! Copy provided by Edelweiss in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I typically love thriller/stalker/murder books so this one appealed to me. When Kate's mother, Lily is found murdered, Kate starts receiving threatening messages targeting her as the next victim. Fearing for her daughter, Annabelle and her husband (who she suspects is having an affair), she calls on once-best-friend Blaire to comfort her as she deals with both tragedy and fear. There are many suspects and the threats continue to escalate; Kate even begins to question her own sanity as she "forgets" things she has done and becomes even more suspicious about family members and friends near her. So be prepared to question everyone and everything! Now I'm on to the other one in my queue that's gotten rave reviews, The Last Mrs. Parrish! Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC!

Kate's mother is brutally murdered. Then taunts and threats start appearing to Kate, making her feel as if she is losing her mind. Kate is desperate to find the killer before she is the next victim. I love this author's novels. This one definitely did not disappoint. It kept me guessing until almost the very end. Lots of edge of your seat suspense combined with a great storyline, makes this one a must-read!

Dr. Kate English is a member of east coast high-society, but her world is turned upside down when her mother is brutally murdered with no explanation. The one good thing that comes from it all is Kate's ex-best friend, Blaire Barrington, returns to attend the funeral. Blaire and Kate are on the road to mending fences when Kate begins receiving threatening text messages in the form of murderess nursery rhymes. As her search for her mother's killer takes over her life the private lives of her social circle begin to unravel tales of deceit, lying and infidelity. I was so determined to find out the killer I devoured this book in a matter of days. Liv Constantine has written a fast-paced thriller with secrets that will keep you guessing to the very last minute. I found the story line original with characters I liked, but distrusted; the cornerstone to my kind of suspense novels.

The Last Time I Saw You was the perfect book to lose myself within during the long wait between games one weekend at my youngest son's baseball tournament. I sat under a tree and just immersed myself in this thriller. It was the perfect page turner that almost made me wish the time between games was longer (I say almost because then I was a bit lost after I finished this one and didn't have another book on hand). The book is told from two different perspectives: Kate's and her former best friend Blaire. We know from the beginning of the book that Kate and Blaire were super close when they were younger and then something happened causing a rift in their friendship. Blaire returns though when Kate's mother is murdered and begins investigating when it is clear that Lily's murder is just the beginning. What I liked about this book was that there was a layer of unreliability to it that causes the reader to question what's going on. I don't want to go into too many specifics but there are things that happen that made me unsure of who to fully trust. I love that type of thing in thrillers so of course I was completely hooked. There isn't much else I can say that wouldn't be considered a spoiler. I wasn't sure on my feelings on Kate until the end of the book - there was a level of detachment with her character where I couldn't decide if I liked her or not. I will say that I really liked the way the author wrapped everything up with this book. It worked for me in a way that I would have said it wouldn't have when I was in the middle of the book. Overall, I really enjoyed my time with this book! I'm glad that I have another of this author's books to look forward to. This is one of those rare books that I managed to read in just a little over a day (which doesn't happen very often). I just couldn't set this one down and really didn't want to. I'm excited to have found this author and will be watching for anything new that she comes up with. I just really liked this book a lot! I would recommend it to fans of thrillers and suspense. I also think that mystery readers in general would enjoy this one. Bottom Line: A page turning read that I couldn't set down! Disclosure: I received a copy of this book thanks to the publisher. Thoughts are my own.

The Last Time I Saw You by Liv Constantine is a recommended psychological thriller. Dr. Kate English is shocked when her mother, a beloved philanthropist, is found murdered. Kate lives an enviable life style as a wealthy heiress and doctor. She has a handsome husband and a daughter. After the death, she reaches out to and rekindles her friendship with her high school friend, Blaire Barrington. When Kate receives a text message saying that she is next, Kate tells Blaire, who begins to investigate all of Kate's friends and relatives to unearth the killer. As the text messages continue, can the killer be caught before Kate is the next victim? This psychological thriller does delivery on the tension and suspense as the threats to Kate's life continue. Expect a long laundry list of suspects and numerous motives in this soap opera of a thriller. Although the characters aren't very well developed or believable, and the plot is predictable, it does keep things moving along with one twist after another in The Last Time I Saw You. Some readers are going to find the whole lifestyle of the rich and famous vibe ever present in this novel way-over-the-top, and it is. While you want her to find closure at the beginning, it must be noted that Kate becomes increasingly annoying as a character. The narrative starts out strong and holds your attention until things begin to falter and become tedious. This is a good choice for an airplane book or vacation read. It will keep you entertained and serve to pass the time, but if you should set it aside you won't be devastated. Disclosure: My review copy was courtesy of the publisher/author.

The Last Time I Saw You is a fast paced, tension filled, twisty psychological thriller. It's a creepy murder mystery and so much more. Nothing is as it seems at first. It’s a complex web of human behavior and traits. The relationships among the various characters are tense and add depth to the overall plot. I was fascinated by the lives and problems of the main characters. Overall, I thought this was a masterfully crafted novel that kept me on the edge of my seat. I enjoyed the writing style and look forward to seeing what this author comes up with next! My thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for an advance copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

The Last Time I Saw You was very suspenseful. It kept me on the edge of my seat and I wanted to find out what was going to happen next. I couldn't put the book down. This story definitely kept me interested and entertained from beginning until the end and I really connected to the characters. This was a pretty fast-paced story, which I appreciated. Overall, I enjoyed this story and found it interesting. It was a bit different because it was part mystery part women's fiction and it was nice that Liv Constantine decided to mix it up a little bit. The Last Time I Saw You is an expertly crafted tale of suspense, and family relations. This is a fast-paced novel that is beautifully written and absolutely absorbing. The characters were well developed and the story-line was so intriguing. Twists and turns in every chapter as the author leads you through a twisted mind of a level you hoped you would not ever imagine. Who do you trust and how do you keep yourself and your family safe? A fast read and very well done. I found it a very compelling read and am looking forward to more from the Constantine sisters.

I have heard many great things about Liv Constantine and her work and when I read the description, this was the perfect mystery/thriller to read. Hearing someone's back story that once had everything you could imagine and then when your mother mysteriously is found dead and they expect it to be murder and you are the prime suspect, your whole life gets flipped upside down. Then you reach out to an old friend you haven't seen in years asking and depending on their help for your sake is the ultimate plea, the ultimate sacrifice and the ultimate key to survival and keeping your name. Edge of your seat thrill ride that will leave you breathless and wanting more. We will consider adding this title to our Fiction collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.

2.5 stars Well, I didn't have quite the same good reading experience with this one as I did with The Last Mrs. Parrish. I think I would have enjoyed this one more as a novella rather than full- length book because the longer the story dragged on, the less I cared if something bad happened to the main character. Dr. Kate English is devastated when she finds out her mother Lily was brutally murdered. Even though Kate has been estranged from her childhood friend Blaire for years, she still reaches out to her for comfort and the two are quickly able to pick up their friendship. While the police are investigating the murder, Kate starts getting creepy text messages. It is soon apparent someone is out to destroy Kate's life and there is quite the list of suspects who might want her dead. The story goes back and forth between the perspectives of Kate and Blaire. So the authors (Liv Constantine is a pen name) do set the stage for what should be an intriguing mystery. Unfortunately, I figured out a little too early into the story which direction it was going to go and was really disappointed when I turned out to be correct. I like being fooled rather than being right. Now, I will say I did not guess correctly the entire plot but enough of it that it did feel like a letdown when I finished the book. Kate just became increasingly more and more annoying as the story progressed to the point I was actually rooting more against her than being on her side. I get that she was under stress but still lady, you got to treat people a little better. This book just wasn't on the same level as the authors' previous novel. At times the writing veered into bad cheesy soap opera territory. At the core, there are many good elements of the story but I think it needed a little more tlc before going to publication. With that being said, I look forward to reading any future books the authors write as I do think they have talent even if this particular book wasn't a winner for me. Thank you to the Netgalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read an advance digital copy in exchange for an honest review!
