When I first read the title of this book, I thought "oh look another book on being a happier shinier version of me...making the lemons in my life into lemonade...yea yea"...boy am I glad I gave this book a chance and read it! This book is way more than a few feel good stories for you to compare yourself too, the lemonade life gives you actionable "switches" you can make in your life to be able actively live your life with purpose and endless possibilities. Instead of a recipe for lemonade you get a recipe for "the lemonade life", the life we all want to live, the beginning pathway to leading a fuller life where we actively reach our full potential each and every day. The book is organized well into sections and is easy to follow. I enjoyed the diagrams, charts, and exercises throughout the book, which kept me personally engaged as I was reading. This is my life, today is my day, and with the author's advice in this book I am putting in the hard work to live "the lemonade life" and become a "lemonade lifer"! I highly recommend this book, great read for anyone! I received an early copy of this book from HarperCollins Leadership, but all thoughts and recommendations are solely my own.
"The Lemonade Life" is a book that challenges, encourages and pushes you out of your comfort zone. Very few of us think about the small choices we make each day that end up becoming our routines, and Zack Friedman is here to shake you up! The book begins with a series of exemplar "types" in regards to our work habits and relationships. Friedman introduces us to the Lemon Lifers: The Eternal Excuser, who never takes responsibility for their work or their mistakes, The Steady Settler, who decides they can live with the status quo as long as it doesn't require much of them, The Change Chaser, who is always looking for the "next big thing" in their work life or otherwise, and finally, The Daring Disrupters--the ones who actually look for opportunities to change or improve their lives by reaching towards a unique dream, no matter the roadblocks that might lie ahead. Friedman is conversational in tone, but don't let that fool you. He will make you reconsider all that you're letting drift by and encourage you to embrace The Lemonade Life, which is his moniker for building an extraordinary life that you don't need a vacation from. The processes in the book allow the reader to self examine, correct tough behaviors that stymie growth and learn from their mistakes by keeping a positive outlook. His passion shines through the message, illustrated with unique examples of those who are actively living The Lemonade Life. I finished this book feeling encouraged, but also directed towards making better decisions to balance my work life. Accepting accountability, reaching goals and having a brighter outlook for the future is paramount, and Friedman gives the reader advice from someone who has been in their shoes. This book would be a great motivator for someone newly entering the workforce, someone who is coming back to work after a hard season, or someone looking to expand their knowledge on making decisions that benefit both the worker and the organization, church, non-profit or business as a whole. When your employees feel better, their work will improve. If they feel they are making a difference, your organization can only benefit. I was pleasantly blessed by this book and the encouragement it provides. I was an early reader, thanks to Harper Collins Publishing. I chose to leave a review and all opinions are my own.
In The Lemonade Life, author Zack Friedman presents readers with five internal "switches" that can be flipped to help lead them to their greatest potential and happiest life. I enjoyed reading the personal stories of different people throughout history who successfully followed the ideas presented in the book. The author uses a lot of lists throughout the book, as well as clever names for concepts. Many will appreciate this style, I found it to be a little distracting at times. While I don't think I was the intended audience (I do not work in business, nor do I have any plans to), I took quite a bit away from this book. I found it to provide a lot of encouragement, simple ideas and practical advice. I received an advance reader copy of this book from the publisher.
I loved this book! If you need a really honest, hard-hitting look at your life, this will do it. The Lemonade Life is a definite eye opener when you really start to evaluate your own behavior. Are you REALLY a daring disruptor or is that just what you want to be? If you're honest, most of us probably aren't there. I know I'm not. But knowing this has made me much more conscientious of what I want and how I want to live. I love books that challenge my perceptions and make me look at how I actually am. But Zack does it in a loving way and then gives you the tools to change. It takes courage to challenge the status quo and live the Lemonade Life! *I received an ARC from the publisher but all opinions are my own.*
Great book full of positive messages, anecdotes and interesting stories. The five internal switches presented are excellent guides to help us train our thoughts and behaviors toward more positive endeavors. I chose to read a bit every morning, enjoying a daily does of inspiration. It's easy and enjoyable reading and written well.
