The Man Who Was Thursday: Original Unabridged Version

G.K. Chesterton's book of brilliant satirical paradox is based on this idea: to make anarchy seem commonplace, conventional, with law and order appearing radical, revolutionary. Chesterton stands iconoclasm on its head. The characters in this story take their names from the days of the week. A bitter detective bent on breaking the ring of anarchists becomes involuntarily enrolled among them, and is obliged to participate in their plot to assassinate the French president.
