Check out the full review at Kritters Ramblings Imogen Naughton has to escape, she has to get away and fast. What from the outside seemed like a perfect marriage, when the layers are peeled back the truth comes out and Imogen will eventually have to confront it all. What a fantastic portrayal of a different type of abuse in a marriage. The way she unpacked the story was just right. There were moments where I kept questioning everything and it was just right.

Imogen Naughton is married to Vince. But now, the Plan she has had for some time is ready to be put into motion. She has traveled from her home in Dublin to Paris for a business trip. But rather than returning home, she takes a zigzag route finally escaping to her childhood home in France. Vince is a controlling, selfish, arrogant man who has always been critical of Imogen and tries to get her to know her place and keep her there. Over their marriage, she realizes how difficult it is to please him all the time and also that trying to get out from under his control might be impossible. But she wants to be free so she can finally do what she wants. As she becomes stronger, she know she can be free and starts to plan for it. As Imogen settles in Hendaye, she takes a job as a house cleaner. Her mother used to do the same work. She finds great satisfaction in her work and having her independence. She goes by her maiden name and strives to stay incognito. When she gets a cleaning job in a large villa, she is delighted because it is where she and her mother lived for years and where she was happiest. When she is recognized by the owners of the home, they are gracious and welcoming to her but she wants to keep a distance. In no time, Imogen has made many friends and is so very happy with her new life. Meanwhile, Vince, in his stubborn way, begins a search for Imogen as he plans to bring her home. Will he find her? If so, will she return to Dublin with him? I liked this book as it details the struggles that many verbally abused women face every day. I think the author’s depiction of Vince is outstanding. She truly pegged him! This is a good story and I hope readers will enjoy Imogen’s journey. Copy provided by NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Imogen Naughton has gotten to a point in her life where she just can't take anymore, her husband has dealt his last insult, she is tired of bending over backwards to make him happy, only to find herself hurt in the end. So, she packs a few things and walks out the door and leaves everyone completely flabbergasted, they just can't imagine why she would disappear without letting any of them know where she has gone. And just when she starts to let her guard down and embrace her new life, her past comes back to haunt her, and is prepared to drag her back to the hell she escaped. Question is will she do what is expected and follow suit or will she stand up and fight for what she wants? The Missing Wife is a poignant tale that is sure to stir your emotions, toy with your thoughts, and leave you inspired! I have a feeling this one might resonate with a lot of readers, it had a very realistic feel to it, and I found it very easy to connect to the heroine. She had very valid reasons for her feelings and I saw her choosing to walk away to re-find herself a very bold, but also very brave move, her journey was downright riveting!! This was my first experience with this author's work and I have to say I am quite impressed with what she brought to the table, the story line was cleverly crafted, and kept me completely enthralled from start to finish!! Highly recommend this one, it left me pleasantly surprised! Requested an advanced copy from NetGalley, and voluntarily read and reviewed.
