I liked this book. I thought it was fast paced, funny in many places, and sweet. Kenna is a little young for 23, if you know what i mean, but that is understandable considering her background. I liked Dane. He was nice to Kenna even when he tried to not be, and he didn't balk at saying i'm sorry. Whats not to love. I would Recommend this book to my friends and family - by Cdavis

A sweet and enjoyable read, loads of untapped potential. The storyline was great but underdeveloped and rushed, pulling away from the overall quality. But as a nice summer/ weekend snack read it was great....and you can't beat free. I hope she keeps writing and developing her characters because her writing style is smooth and contemporary. Cheers!

It's rare that I give any of the books I read 5 stars, unless they absolutely blow me away.... Which is exactly what this book did! It was great. Highly recommended.

I got the copy of this book free for my Nook and while I liked it the ending seemed rushed. Kenna and Dane knew each other as children. When he was 13 and she was seven, his mother found out that Kenna's mother was having an affair with Dane's father. From that day forward he hated his father, her mother, and never saw Kenna again. That is until they both attended the engagement party for their respective parents fifteen or so years later. He is rich cold. She is poor, with a six year old daughter and struggling to make ends meet. Sparks fly!! The One You Want is a good, quick, read. I enjoyed reading it and would recommend it. The people are just exactly what you think they should be; great friends, crappy boss, precocious child, self-conscious woman (give me a self assured woman character, please), and man with a hidden heart of gold.

I had read this before, but decided to read it again. I liked Kenna, and felt sorry for her because she got treated like dirt and did not deserve it, I am glad that she finally ended up getting some happiness. Then there is Dane, who could not figure out what he wanted, yes he wanted Kenna, but on his terms, he finally realized that she was the best thing that could happen to him and wised up.

NUMBER OF HEARTS: 3 3/4 I liked this story. Ms. Showalter always writes a story that tugs at your heartstrings. And The One You Want does all of that and more. It was also great to see the other characters before their stories (West, Jase & Beck). And of course little Norrie. This kid is so much fun!!! While I enjoyed Dane & Kerra’s story I felt that there were a lot of unanswered questions and issues. I would have like to see those all resolved. Of course being a novella it is hard to do everything. But I still would have liked them to answered. When I read this novella I had already read the first two books in the series. But that didn’t have any effect on this novella. Now I need to go get books 3 Disclaimer: I purchased this book and this review is my own opinion and not a paid review.

Someone mentioned that Kenna is young for a 23-year-old woman, and I agree. Other than that, it's a decent story. The supporting characters were great, the backstory was good, and the setting was almost another character in the story. The couple was appropriately tortured by the past, but the HEA came a bit too easily for my taste (especially for a woman with a child to consider and a man who apparently hates the woman's family and his own). But I bought the rest of the books in the series, and it definitely gets better with each book, not worse. I was skeptical at first about mainstream books by GS, but it was done well for a prequel. Other books in this series are great. Make sure to read in order, though, starting with this one. I still am anxiously awaiting the next LOTU book, and it's still my favorite GS series to date.

4.5 star The story has laughs, pain, secrets, and heartbreak. I was pulled right into this story. The story flowed well and I was kept interested. This is Kenna and Dane’s story. Kenna and Dane were friends until it they found out her mother was having an affair with his father. Then words were said that could never be taken back. Now years later her mother and his father are getting married. Both Kenna and Dane are asked to attend. Dane knows he needs to tell Kenna he is sorry for the words he said and the way he treated her but will she accept his apology? After seeing Kenna again Dane wonders about her but with all the rumors will he even give her a chance. She has a daughter and he knows how her mother is so it’s all true right? Can Kenna ever get out of her bad reputation? What happens when the ones you want does not want to connect with your child? If it all over? Or can Dane overcome his fear of her daughter? I loved these characters and all the friends who are more like brothers. I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read. I highly recommend this book, this series and this author.
