Overflowing closets, drawers and garages are more the norm than the exception these days. This book is a good place to start if you need some motivation to start cleaning yours out. More than just telling you to “throw everything away”, it explores some of the reasons behind our clutter and asks you to think through that first…VERY HELPFUL! The chapter organization is another good part of the book. The early chapters (1-4) focus on some general topics. The rest of the chapters address individual areas of the house and address issues that are specific to that location. That organization makes it easy to use a chapter like a “training manual” for de-cluttering a particular area without feeling overwhelmed and unsure of where to start. Finally, the book is full of tips, tricks and information (case studies) from professional organizers. All these “extras” make the information seem very doable. There is also a large bibliography with plenty of additional reading and helpful websites that reinforce all the information presented in the book. It was a quick read and a good place to start any de-cluttering project. It made me ready to get started on mine sooner rather than later! NOTE: In exchange for writing this review, I did receive a review copy of the book.

This book is an anti-clutter answer in more ways than one! It’s easy to flip through, contains quick questionnaires and lists that can be scanned quickly, and the chapter subheadings are well labeled so you can find what you need even when you don’t have time to sit down and read at length. Besides providing simple tips, it does a good job of providing a rationale for your areas most in need of reform. Case studies in organization sprinkled throughout the book provide real-life examples of organizational success. The book’s definitely a parent-friendly, busy household-friendly tool.

I have to mention that I am a clean freak, and I really love for all of my things to be as organized as possible. Fortunately for me, this book came along and I have to say that it offers a great deal of tips that I had never thought of before. You will learn things such as why clutter can cost you money, how to organize things more effectively, how to get rid of your clutter, and make more room in your home. Best of all, organization experts had been interviewed and actually give advice on clutter, as well as making a cleaning and organizing schedule and even meal and recipe planning. I highly suggest that you check it out today, you will be glad that you did!
