A sexy new standalone in the New York Times bestselling Briar U series!

What I learned after last year's distractions cost my hockey team our entire season? No more screwing up. No more screwing, period. As the new team captain, I need a new philosophy: hockey and school now, women later. Which means that I, Hunter Davenport, am officially going celibate…no matter how hard that makes things.

But there's nothing in the rulebook that says I can't be friends with a woman. And I won't lie—my new classmate Demi Davis is one cool chick. Her smart mouth is hot as hell, and so is the rest of her, but the fact that she's got a boyfriend eliminates the temptation to touch her.

Except three months into our friendship, Demi is single and looking for a rebound.

And she's making a play for me.

Avoiding her is impossible. We're paired up on a yearlong school project, but I'm confident I can resist her. We'd never work, anyway. Our backgrounds are too different, our goals aren't aligned, and her parents hate my guts.

Hooking up is a very bad idea. Now I just have to convince my body—and my heart.

OMG, I loved Demi so much!!!! Smart, insightful, self-aware, and so much fun! She was also serious, determined, and had that bit of vulnerability and humility that makes everyone like her. She’s realist, but not pessimistic, and she speaks her mind. She has her soft spots, her blind spots, and her fears, but she faces things head on. Watching her grow, develop, and become her own woman was a joy and a delight. And watching her getting to show her sexy side with Hunter was off the charts, super duper, extra spicy sexiness! Of course we all knew Hunter, he was the one done wrong by, the one who seemed determined to self-destruct, in previous books in the series. But he has matured now, and he had set new goals for himself. Watching him being his fun-loving, but not self-imploding, self was also a joy. So satisfying to see Hunter become his own man, to shed off his baggage, and let the kind, sweet, person he is, have a chance to shine. And it came as no surprise the man was a dynamo in-between the sheets, on the ice, and that one time in a brawl Opposites attract, friends to lovers, whichever way you want to look at it, Demi and Hunter had a slow burn, that ran fiery hot before it even ignited. Once it did, it never lost any heat, and the hearts were engaged from the beginning, it just took them a bit to come to that realization

Where do I even begin with this book!? I think out of all the Briar U couples Hunter and Demi are my absolute favorite. I loved their chemistry, the sass and everything else in between. There was something about these two that I instantly loved and I couldn't put it down. Their story is one of my favorites... friends to lovers. I wasn't quiet sure how their story was going to play out at the beginning, but I knew I was going to love it. I've been dying for Hunter's story since we've seen snippets of him in the other Briar U stories. His self imposed abstinence was one of my favorite parts of him and his position with the hockey team had me in stitches from laughing. Knowing that he built a relationship with Demi first made me love him even more. Everything about these two had me laughing and loving them more and move. They were made for each other and complimented each other amazingly. I'm sad to see our favorite Briar U guys come to an end, but Hunter's story left me with such a high, I think I'll just have to go back and read them all again.

Welcome Back to Briar U! I’ve been waiting and waiting for the third book in this series, and I wasn’t disappointed. Hunter, the player of players, decided after the previous incident where he kinda slept with someone’s girlfriend. That he needed to take a vow of celibacy. And he’s taking this vow super serious. To the point it’s driving him bonkers. Then there comes Demi, a brilliant girl who has a boyfriend. So what does Hunter have to worry about? Little does Hunter know, she may be the key to unlock his vow. There’s a lot that happens within this story, and it was awesome. There are hilarious moments and heartbreaking ones. The Play had everything, and now, of course, I want more! I love all these characters.

This is book #3, in the Briar U series. This story can be read as a standalone novel. To avoid the spoilers, and truly enjoy the series, I recommend reading these in order. Hunter had last season end badly. He is determined to have a better year, and be the best Captain of his hockey team. Then he met temptation. Demi has a boyfriend and is fine with adding Hunter to her huge list of guy friends. He turns out to be an interesting study buddy. While there is definitely an attraction there, they both know its off limits. I eagerly anticipated this story and was not disappointed! These characters bring it all. I enjoyed their heat and it made the sexy times hotter. Was great that some of our absolute faves came to visit. This was a great read. ***This copy was given in exchange for an honest review.

Demi and Hunter are very different people. Hunter is a serial player, on a self-imposed sex free break, and Demi has been with 1 guy since school. Paired up on an assignment their friendship blossoms. The pair find out that when the end of the assignment period is over, they want to keep in touch. A funny tale of love in an unexpected place with drama involving lollipops, hoop earrings, and police stations. The Play is a must-read.

Death, taxes, the sun rising in the east, ect. You get the idea. We can add another thing to that list, any time Elle releases a book in the Briar universe, it will become an all time favorite. Every single couple and story has been an instant hit from the very first page, Hunter and Demi are no exception. Their story was beyond swoon worthy and hilarious to boot. My cheeks hurt from smiling and laughing at the easy banter between them. I loved their friendship, I loved the jokes and attraction. Everything about these two was completely irresistible. I think everyone has been eagerly waiting for Hunters story. We got to see some of his highs and lows with the first two books and I have been rooting for him through it all. I love that he was cleaning it up in this book although I always saw him as the good guy. There is a lot of hilarity with his self imposed abstinence. And his antics with the hockey team left me in several laughing fits. I absolutely adored the relationship he and Demi built. Hunter definitely met his match as she’s one of the funniest, most confident heroines I’ve read in a series. They were so great together. Kennedy creates pure magic in the form of NA romance. I always adore a good sports romance, and nobody does it quite like she does. Another 5 stars along with another fantastic read from her. I could happily read about the Briar crew for years to come.

4.5 STARS!!!! What a great read! Hunter was so much more than I expected! He was such a good guy. I adored his story. It was so much fun to read! I loved the friends-to-lovers storyline. It was exciting, witty, and super sexy. Hunter and Demi are now one of my favorite Kennedy couples! It was great to catch up with some of the Off-Campus and Briar U gang. Their friendships continue to melt my heart. I love these guys! I don't know where Briar U will go from here, but I am sure to follow! I would love Conor's story. I think he may give Dean a run for his money! Whatever Elle Kennedy writes next, I NEED it! ♥ Review by Lys

3.5 stars The Play was an enjoyable NA, forced proximity, friends to lovers, sports romance. It can be read as a standalone, but characters from the previous books as well as the Off Campus series do appear. Ever since meeting him in The Chase, I have wanted Hunter's story. The way things played out between him, Summer, and Fitzy and the fallout that occurred in The Risk, left me crossing my fingers that Hunter would get his own book and find his HEA. The Play definitely delivered. I loved the banter between Demi and Hunter and their chemistry was amazing. A class project forces them together and I really enjoyed seeing their friendship develop and grow into more. Because there was no pressure or expectations between them, it allowed them to really get to know each other without any ulterior motives. There isn't a ton of drama or angst in this one, but there are some predictable and cliche speed bumps/detours. The overall pacing was a little slow for me and there were times I felt like the book was unnecessarily long. As much as I loved Hunter and Demi, there were a few things that didn't quite work for me. *** SPOILER *** I didn't like the way that Demi pushed Hunter to break his vow of celibacy. Hunter isn't a victim though and he certainly did things to test his vow. Regardless of why he was doing it though or if she (or anyone) thought it was unnecessary, Hunter told Demi no. More than once. She even agreed to back off and then the very next chapter she purposely tried to force the situation. Had the roles been reversed, readers would be up in arms and would have condemned Hunter. It just doesn't sit right with me, even if neither is mad at or blames the other. No means no. I also felt like the event involving TJ at the end was drama just for drama's sake, and it almost diminished the seriousness of the issue. Demi felt too naive about TJ and his feelings, and I didn't like how she treated him once things with Hunter started to heat up. *** END SPOILER *** One thing I absolutely loved was seeing all the familiar Briar faces! I loved the nod to Sarina Bowen's Superfan and the connection to my favorite Off Campus couple was a treat! I don't think I will ever tire of seeing all of them. Rupi and Hollis continue to provide some wonderful and over the top comic relief in The Play and their story couldn't have left off on a better note. Though this is technically the last book in the Briar U series, I wouldn't be upset to get a book about Conor in the future ;) Overall, this was an enjoyable read, but sadly, I didn't love it. *I voluntarily read an advance review copy of this book*
