The Play by Bestselling Author J.H. Croix is Book 1 of the Brit Boys Sports Romance series and is a Sports Romance Liam is one of the best midfielders in the world and was traded to the Seattle Stars with his best friend Alex and 2 other teammates after their British team suffered a crushing loss. A knee injury has landed Liam in a medical facility where the gorgeous Dr. Bowen tells Liam that she's confident she can have him back on the field within a few months. Olivia is the best orthopedic surgeon and has no time for relationships but is wildly attracted to the devilishly handsome Liam. Olivia is flustered when Liam shows an interest in her, and tells him "Honestly, sex bores me to tears. I’m sure you think I’m some kind of novelty, but it’s not worth your bother." Challenge accepted, Liam replies “You can’t go through the rest of your life thinking sex is boring. We’ll have to remedy that.” Olivia fights her attraction to Liam but succumbs to his charm. What starts off as attraction turns into something more but when Olivia sees a photo of Liam with a beautiful model, she lets her insecurities get the better of her and breaks up with Liam to protect her heart. Is this the end of the road for them? The Play is a delightful story with sweet romance and steamy scenes. J.H. Croix has created fun and lovable characters who had me cheering them on for a HEA. I highly recommend this book. I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book

Loved Olivia and Liam, but too much sex and not enough story, also way too much repeating of the same lines over and over. It must be to make a 120 page story into a 189 page story. IT could have been a lot better. GJRA

Liam and Olivia's story is a wonderful romance with a dash of sports. I love that Liam is English, I could actually hear his accent in my mind. Olivia is a nerdy dr, and I love that she is an intelligent and confident woman.

I was provided a free ARC of this book and am voluntarily writing an honest review. I first fell in love with J.H. Croix's writing when I read her Diamond Creek Alaska series. This book, while a departure from what I am used to from her, has all of the same elements I have come to love from this author....likeable characters, realistic settings, and a love story! Olivia wants nothing to do with Liam when she first meets him other than a doctor/patient relationship. All Liam wants is to get back out on the soccer field, oh and Olivia. Will these two find a love that lasts? Or are they doomed by the circumstances surrounding them?

While I'm not a fan of sports-themed romances, I am a big fan of Ms. Croix's writing and The Play did not disappoint!  All the characters, not just the leads are so well-drawn I wish I actually knew them.  The story pulled me in from the start and it was hard to stop reading.  The dialogue is excellent and romance steamy I highly recommend this book and author. I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book.

Love From Across The Pond Football or Soccer the name means something different to players across the world. If you listen to everyone else the americans have it wrong. Maybe the other countries are right.... Liam is a brit by birth and he is know to be a great "footballer" when he is sent to Seattle to play for a US team. The game he plays is what we call soccer and the brits call football. Are you confused yet? While in living in Seattle he meets Olivia and is out of his depth. She is highly intelligent and skilled surgeon who does not date. They have nothing in common but an attraction that could prove to be harmful to both. The author has created character that are easily likeable. They are professional beings with careers they both enjoy and don't want to jeopardize. The story line had an easy flow about it that drawed the reader in to the characters world and gave a window in to the aniexty, depression, the felling of loss, the confusion and the elation the characters faced throughout this book. A job well done by the author. I have voluntarily read and reviewed this ARC from the author without obligation to do so.
