Overview

Beloved bestselling author Shelley Shepard Gray returns with the second book in her Amish Brides of Pinecraft series— a story of finding the strength to follow your dreams . . . and your heart

Penny Troyer never disobeys her parents. But tonight she's bending the rules because Michael Knoxx—the most famous member of the Knoxx Family, a traveling Mennonite evangelical family—is scheduled to speak. Penny has heard of Michael—how he lost part of his leg in a terrible accident and uses the experience to inspire others—and knows she must meet him . . . even if it means challenging her parents' strict rules and taking the first step toward her own independence.

Though he speaks about living life to the fullest, Michael knows he needs to take his own advice. Life on the road is grueling and Michael wants to slow down, to rest . . . to perhaps meet someone who sees him as a man, not just a celebrity. So when a twist of fate allows him the chance to stay a little longer in Pinecraft, Michael knows God is showing him a new path, especially when he discovers that Penny has also survived a terrible ordeal.

But as Michael's time in Pinecraft comes to an end, Michael and Penny are left to wonder what kind of future they could possibly have together. Are they brave enough to take the chance given to them? Or will they choose to cling to what is familiar, even if it pushes away their dream of happiness?

There is something so appealing about the characters that Gray develops. As I read the book, I couldn't help but feel a connection to them and to want to influence the situations in their favor. Both Penny and Michael have experienced a loss in their lives, but for each not only was the loss very different but also the way that they and their family coped with the loss. As readers, we get to watch them journey further in the healing process as they meet and grow close to each other, developing friendship and later realizing it is something more. I liked that the book was more about the story's characters and what was going on in their lives, rather than being about them being Amish. The themes of love, loss, and healing are universal, the fact that the characters are Amish seemed to be more of a backdrop or setting for the story than something that was a focus. If you enjoy reading light romance stories, then you will enjoy this book.

I find this author to be very fascinating, when you start a book by Shelley you feel as if you are apart of the "family". This was one of the Amish Pinecraft Series which gives a whole new look at the way of modern day Amish life. Many things have "changed but are still the same" and a look the way it affects every aspect of living. It is also a look love that is pure and very innocent.

I liked this cute romance about living each day to the fullest! I really liked Penny and admired her determination to change her life. She had a lot of courage, especially knowing what a dangerous place the world can be. There were some amusing moments and some sweet romantic ones. Penny and Michael both had a strong faith in God, but he was Mennonite and she was Amish and their differences were never really addressed. I liked getting reacquainted with Bev and her situation with the new owner of the inn. This works well as a stand-alone, though there was some information about Bev you learned in the first book. I look forward to seeing how her story gets resolved. I absolutely loved the setting and relaxed atmosphere. I'd recommend this book to women who like Amish stories. I received this book free from Litfuse Publicity in exchange for an honest review.

Shelley Shepard Gray in her new book, “The Proposal At Siesta Key” Book Two in the Amish Brides of Pinecraft series published by Avon Inspire takes us into the life of Penny Troyer. From the back cover: Beloved bestselling author Shelley Shepard Gray returns with the second book in her Amish Brides of Pinecraft series— a story of finding the strength to follow your dreams . . . and your heart Penny Troyer never disobeys her parents. But tonight she’s bending the rules because Michael Knoxx—the most famous member of the Knoxx Family, a traveling Mennonite evangelical family—is scheduled to speak. Penny has heard of Michael—how he lost part of his leg in a terrible accident and uses the experience to inspire others—and knows she must meet him . . . even if it means challenging her parents’ strict rules and taking the first step toward her own independence. But as Michael’s time in Pinecraft comes to an end, Michael and Penny are left to wonder what kind of future they could possibly have together. Are they brave enough to take the chance given to them? Or will they choose to cling to what is familiar, even if it pushes away their dream of happiness? Welcome back to Pinecraft. Penny is a highly sheltered young lady that wants to break free and be an independent person. Michael is an Evangelist and a disabled person who just wants to be seen as a person. When these two come together whole new worlds open up for them. Ms. Gray has given us real people in Penny and Michael and watching them grow individually and then together is a real treat. “The Proposal At Siesta Key” is an exceptional story with exceptional characters that you care for and so want them to get together. Back in Siesta Key Florida and the Orange Blossom Inn, we meet a very sheltered Amish woman, about to spread her wings. She has been very protected by her parents and now at 24 years of age she has decided to venture out into the world, much to Mom and Dad’s chagrin. Also we have an evangelist in the form of Michal Knoxx whom along with his family is touring the country sharing the gifts God has bestowed on Michael. When we meet him he is very ill, and rather grumpy, as you might expect, if you knew. Michael has had a lot of trauma in his life, and is rather tired of sharing his life with the world. Now he is forced to take a rest, and of course he ends up at the Inn, where Penny has taken her first ever job. We watch, as their first meeting sure doesn’t go very well, what with Michael being ill. Can shy Penny spark a friendship with such a celebrity? Will there be a chance of romance between Beverly and Eric, whom we met in the first book in this series. I found myself rooting for there to be a union between them. A really good and fast read and I am hoping for more of these visits at the Inn. I received this book through Litfuse Publicity Book Tours and was not required to give a positive review.

The Proposal at Siesta Key is a sweet, easy story that I could read over and over again. Shelley drew me in right from the start and I wanted to keep flipping page after page to see how the story unfolds.  I can not wait for the next installment of the series. The relationships built throughout this book really draw you in.  As a parent, I can relate to Penny Troyer’s parents who want to keep her safe and close.  Yet, you can understand Penny’s desire to be free and make relationships of her own.  I can also relate to Michael and his disability.  He struggles with the desire to please his family, who have been through so much, and his desire to be free. Michael wants to please God as well and it is sometimes difficult to know what plan God has for you.  Shelley does a wonderful job creating depth in these characters and the tension she adds makes you want to keep reading. The Proposal at Siesta Key is very encouraging and full of wisdom. Shelley has a phenomenal way of interweaving the truth of “life is not easy” while also reminding us to cherish each moment we have because we can never get that moment back.   I give this book a 5 out of 5 stars.  Grab your coffee and banana nut muffin and join me in Florida at the Orange Blossom Inn! This is one book you will want to read again! Thank you to Litfuse Chicks for a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

This is another wonderful addition to the Amish Brides of Pinecraft series. It can also be read as a stand alone if you have not read book one. I find that I absolutely fly through Shelley Shepard Gray’s books because I love them so much. This one is no exception. The community of Pinecraft is interesting, but what really captured me was the relationship that developed between the two main characters. They were, at first glance, opposites in every way. Penny was sheltered and shy, while Michael was outgoing and had seen much of the world. But, I just loved the way they connected and it became apparent how they valued the same things. Their romance was so sweet. I also really liked that Michael Knoxx was a man with a disability. It made this story so interesting. Also wonderful was the way Penny loved Michael just as he was. It was great to see her grow in confidence with Michael and also with her parents, and the difficult home situation she was in. I definitely recommend this wonderful story to fans of Amish fiction. My thanks to the publisher and to Litfuse Publicity for the complimentary copy of this book that I received in exchange for an honest review.

(Sigh!!) That is what I do whenever I read any of Shelley Shepard Gray's Amish novels. First, because they are so exceptionally well written that I simply forget where I am for the duration of the time it takes me to read it (in one sitting), and the other because I am so sad that it's over too soon! Once again, Shelley takes us back to Pinecraft, Florida in her second installment of the Amish Brides of Pinecraft series, with The Proposal at Siesta Key! This was inspired by a true life event Shelley witnessed when visiting the Amish town of Pinecraft and saw a small group of missionaries sharing their story with those gathered and this inspired her to write about the Knoxx family, Mennonites who were taking their story on the road of what their son Michael endured with the loss of his leg during a bike accident. Now feeling it has been a calling from God on their life, they find themselves as guests at the Orange Blossom Inn while spending a couple days on their tour sharing the story. It will be one that will be both life-changing and unforgettable. Penny Troyer at 24, is trying to find a way to tell her parents, that all their protectiveness they have had in her life, is gotten to the point where she feels she isn't living a life but merely existing in theirs since the tragedy that took the life of her sister Lissy and left them wanting to protect the only daughter they have left. But what it has done in the process is eliminated the chance for Penny to establish friends and do all the kinds of things a young teenage girl would have, to find someone to love and perhaps even get a job. Now she simply needs to find a way to tell them she wants to go with a friend to see the traveling Knoxx family at the park, but the conversation happening in her mind is much easier than the one she will be having with both of her parents. I received The Proposal at Siesta Key by Shelley Shepard Gray compliments of Litfuse Publicity and Avon Inspired Books, a division of Harper Collins Publishers for my honest review. Aside from my complimentary copy of the novel, I did not receive any monetary compensation for my review and the opinions contained here are strictly my own. One day I can only hope to make a visit to the Amish town of Pinecraft and view the places Shelley describes in her book at the conclusion. What a charming place it must be where the pace of life is much slower and a bit more simple than the rat race most of us face. Truly it is no wonder so many come to visit and end up making Pinecraft their own home! I know I would hate to leave and thus the reason for always finishing these novels much too soon! There is a sneak peek at her next novel coming up included which means I won't have to wait too long. Well worth a stellar 5 out of 5 stars and be warned there is a great recipe for Chocolate Pecan Pie included as well!

Since reading The Promise of Palm Grove, I have been eager to return to the heart of Sarasota, Florida. In the second book in the Amish Brides of Pinecraft series, Shelley Shepard Gray invites readers back to the small Amish community of Pinecraft and the quaint Orange Blossom Inn. New primary characters are introduced, and familiar favorites are enjoyed in the secondary story line. The Proposal at Siesta Key charmed me from the first page until the last! The story boasts vivid imagery, endearing characters, a unique story line, and a tender romance. I enjoyed The Proposal at Siesta Key and can’t wait to read the next book in this delightful series! P.S. Don’t miss the great bonus material that is included in the back of the book. In addition to an author’s note and discussion guide, readers can enjoy a Chocolate Pecan Pie recipe, Shelley’s top five must-see spots in Pinecraft, scenes from Pinecraft, and a sneak peek of the next book, A Wedding at the Orange Blossom Inn. I received a complimentary copy of The Proposal at Siesta Key through Litfuse Publicity. I appreciate the opportunity to read this book and share my honest opinion.

This is a fabulous follow up to The Promise of Palm Grove, the first in the Pinecraft Bride series.   We're back in sunny Pinecraft, Florida and visiting Beverly's Orange Blossom Inn.  Penny Troyer has been living a very sheltered life, after her family lost her sister in a tragic way.   She finally decides that she has had enough, and announces that she's going to find a job.   Beverly is looking for help around the inn, and for someone to help with the care for a long term guest.  Michael Knoxx and his family are well known traveling evangelists.   The entire family participates but the main draw is of Michael's telling of the accident that left him with an amputated leg.   He needs another surgery, and Penny is the perfect person to help him while he's recouping at the inn.   Penny and Michael's have such a sweet story.  In the background, we're also learning more about Beverly and Eric.  Which I love!   I can't wait to see where their story ends up either.  It was an amazing book to get lost in.   The author really draws you into the book with her descriptions.   I especially loved how she described the beach scene, Michael's first visit even though his family has visited Pinecraft multiple times.   The characters are believable and honest.  Can't wait for the third book in the series!

A young Amish woman, yearning for freedom, crosses paths with a handsome Mennonite celebrity in a deeply moving tale of friendship and self-discovery—the second installment in the unforgettable New York Times bestselling author’s new Amish Brides of Pinecraft series. Penny Troyer rarely disobeys her parents. In the years since her sister’s tragic death, they’ve wanted nothing more than to keep her safe…even if it means never leaving the house. But tonight, she’s bending the rules because Michael Knoxx, the most famous member of The Knoxx Family Singers, a traveling Mennonite Evangelical family —is scheduled to speak. Penny has heard of Michael—how he lost part of his leg in a terrible accident and uses the experience to inspire others—and knows she must meet him. So, for the first time ever, Penny stands up to her parents and goes out on her own.  Though he speaks about living life to the fullest, Michael knows he needs to take his own advice. Life on the road is grueling and Michael wants to slow down, to rest…to perhaps meet someone who sees him as a man, not just a celebrity. So when a twist of fate allows him the chance to stay a little longer in Pinecraft, Michael knows God is showing him a new path, especially when he discovers how much he and Penny Troyer have in common. But new friendships can’t stop time. Soon, Michael's time in Pinecraft will be over and he'll be back on the road. Her time with Michael has brought her happiness, but will she be able to follow her heart? Or will she be faced with the one thing she’s sure she'll never have the courage to do?  I love the setting of Pinecraft. I feel like I can visual the place. I love the characters and the storyline. Even though this is the second novel in the series, you could read this one and not be lost.  I felt like I was right there with Penny cheering her on to become the woman she was meant to be. You will love Penny too. If you love Amish novels, you will want to read this one. This would make a wonderful summer reading book for the beach. I can't wait for the next one.  I received a free copy of this book as a member of Shelley's group "The Buggy Bunch”.

I enjoyed this next installment in the Amish Brides of Pinecraft series. It is fun getting to know the characters and watching them find their match. This book mixes both Amish and Mennonite cultures as Penny, who is Amish, goes against her parent’s wishes to get to know Michael, who is a Mennonite. Her parents just want to keep her safe and mean well.  As always the author does a great job of describing the town of Pinecraft and all the scenes so you feel as if you are right in Florida with the characters. I like how Shelley’s writing just seems to flow making the book read quickly. She grabs you on page one and before you know you are so engrossed you lose a day and the book is over. If you are a fan of Amish fiction then this is a book for you. I am looking forward to the next book in this series.

Penny Troyer of Pinecraft, Florida makes a life-changing decision to hear the evangelical Knoxx family  speak one night. She is trying to overcome a painful past and the main speaker Michael had an accident that changed his life. Penny gets a job at the Orange Blossom Inn with Miss Beverly. One of her  main duties is taking care of Michael before and after his surgery. They grow closer and have to make major life changes to make their relationship work. With God anything is possible. Miss Beverly grows  closer with the inn's owner Eric. It will be interesting to see that relationship blossom. Miss Beverly's niece Tricia makes a surprise visit and I can't wait to see her grow up. I'm beyond glad that both Penny  and Michael have a wonderful and happy life. God is good. I received a free copy of this book as a member of Shelley's group "The Buggy Bunch" but I purchased an additional copy.

Such a wonderful and tender story. A unique storyline. So grateful for this newest book from Shelley Shepard Gray. I loved the Spiritual thread in this book. All too soon this book was over. I will want to read this book again. This book is the second in a series but it can stand alone. I do recommend that you read this series in order. I look forward to the future books in this series. I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Shelley Shepard Gray has written another great book set in Pinecraft, FL. With well-developed, easy to relate to characters, and wonderful descriptions this book is a quick and easy read. The characters in the book all seemed real to me. They have real problems and issues that aren't exclusive to the Amish. Their issues could happen to anyone but it's the way they handle them that make them different. I enjoy reading about how they handle the problems in their lives. I loved the descriptions of the different places in the book. I felt like I was actually there in Pinecraft. After reading the descriptions of the Orange Blossom Inn I wanted to make reservations and stay there!  This book has a great flow to it. The pace of the story is such that it keeps the reader engrossed and entertained. The book is easy to read and hard to put down! Even though this book is the second in the Brides of Pinecraft series I feel like it could easily be a standalone novel. Characters from the first book are in this one and their stories continue, but I don't feel like someone would be lost if they picked this book up without reading the first.  I would recommend this book to any fan of Amish fiction, someone looking for a nice sweet romance, or to anyone looking for a good, clean read.  I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest opinion.

My favorite of the series thus far! I love how Michael Knoxx was a "celebrity" but down to earth.  He wasn't full of himself as we would expect some celebrities to be.  He has a small pride complex but I believe that is due to his handicap and not wanting to be a burden to people.  My favorite line in the story where it pertains to Michael is "But after he'd given the Lord the worst of him, Michael went to sleep. After all, he was the weak one, God was not." Michael exudes confidence yet remains humble.  Not because of his handicap but because of his faith in God and knowing through Him all things are possible.  I loved the unlikely friendship charismatic Michael develops with Penny.  Penny is painfully shy and unsure of herself.  Mostly from being under her parents rule but also what happened to her sister.  Penny wants to be a good Amish daughter but she also wants to LIVE.  Something she hasn't done in a very long time.  As she's spreading her wings and breaking out of her shell she meets Michael.  Their first meeting wasn't pleasant but despite this they forge a friendship. You will be hooked from the get go and will enjoy every minute of the ride.  Have I mentioned how much I LOVE this book! lol

Sometimes you have seasons in your life when you feel that things are not fair, and you desperately want a change or a means of escape. In "The Proposal of Siesta Key" Penny Troyer is in this position. Not by anything that she has personally done, but by a horrific chance of fate that strikes her family. Penny is a shy and reserved young lady who finds the inner courage to take a leap of faith and in doing so realizes that there is life beyond the walls of safety and security of home and overly protective parents. Michael Knoxx has his own issues in life and right now, in the midst of healing and quiet, he meets Penny. Michael is used to people's adoration and so he is surprised and amused that Penny treats him like any other "common" man. Together they muster the strength to makes changes that they need to better their own lives. My heart strings pull toward the courageous Penny. She is so incredibly brave to no longer live in a state of sorrow. She yearns to make new friends, possibly find love, and enjoy life. Sometimes you just need to take that first step and then be amazed at how the blessings follow you. In Penny's case it not only brought all they things she hoped for, but also healing that her family didn't even realize they needed. This book is the second in a series, but can be read alone. I thoroughly enjoyed it and hope you like it as much as me. Another winner!

“The Proposal at Siesta Key” is book two in the Amish Brides of Pinecraft series by Shelley Shepard Gray. In this captivating story, Penny Troyer seeks to find her independence from the sheltered life she has led ever since the rape and death of her sister. Against her parents’ wishes, she goes to hear the Knoxx family speak about their work as Mennonite evangelists. She meets Michael Knoxx, who inspires his listeners with his own tale of triumph over hardship. When circumstances allow for Michael to extend his stay in Pinecraft, he and Penny come to care for one another. However, as Michael’s time in Pinecraft draws to a close, he and Penny must decide what the future holds for them. “Proposal at Siesta Key” is another beautiful story from this talented author. Readers will enjoy this book, and anxiously await the next!

I'm not sure how many books I've read now by Shelley, but this ranks up there as one of my top favorites!! My favorite line in the book might be this, "After he'd given the Lord the worst of him, Michael went to sleep. After all, he was the weak one. God was not." This book has so many applications to life for anyone!!!! You're not Amish? Not important. You're not brave? Neither is Penny, one of the main characters. You don't think you like Amish-based stories? This isn't about that. Bottom line is, you have got to read this book.......if you don't feel God cares about your life, if you know He cares but you don't know His will for you, if you don't feel God can use you because you have physical or emotional limitations...........pretty much, if you have a beating heart you need to read this book. I found hope. I found comfort. I found refreshment. I found affirmation of faith. I pray you read this book, and you find something you're looking for as well.

This book is so sweet. I'm going to recommend it to my sister who has just begun reading Shelley Shepard Gray's books. She has told her church group about the books and I know the members are reading the books too. Shelley Shepard Gray is an amazing Christian author and I look forward to each new book.

This is the second book in Shelley Shepard Gray's Amish Brides of Pinecraft series and I have to say that it did not disappoint. From the very first page I was captured and had a hard time putting it down when I needed to. It met all of my expectations. Sometimes when I read a book I can see bits and pieces of myself in some of the characters and Penny Troyer is one of the ones that captured my heart. I know and understand some of the things that she was going through in this story. I really felt for her and empathized with her. The pace of this book just flows naturally. It has the right pace and just when you think things are going to settle down, it happens, Shelley throws in a twist that I didn't seen coming. I do believe my emotions were all over the place. Sometimes family can get in the way of things and the conflict between the main characters and their family brought on the tension in this one. I can understand the need to protect a loved one after something tragic has happened, but when they are adults you have to let them spread their wings and fly. Penny especially touched my heart with her bravery of stepping outside the box into the unknown. Shelley Shepard Gray continues to write heartfelt inspiring stories. She has really stepped it up in this novel. Just when I thought I had the story figured out there would be another twist in the plot. I was captured into this story right from the first page, and could empathize with Penny Troyer. I felt like I was right there with her egging her on to become the woman she was meant to be. I loved the proposal that Penny and Michael make and that they both honor that proposal, even when things were not so great. I am so glad the ending turned out happy for Penny and Michael. I truly felt both their internal struggles. I would highly recommend this captivating heartfelt book.

Tragedy had struck the Troyer family. They had lost their eldest daughter in a very horrible way. Penny was twelve years old at the time of her sister’s death.   In this second book of the Amish Brides of Pinecraft we travel back to the beautiful, sunny little Florida town. We are re-united with old friends and make some new ones.   Penny Troyer is now twenty-four years old and tired of being treated like a child.  Her parents have kept to tight a reign on her since Lissy’s death all those years ago back in Ohio. She’s never allowed to leave the house alone. Penny wants what everyone her age wants…she wants friends, she wants to go places, she wants a life! One night Penny decides she’s had enough and plans to go to the Park to hear a missionary family, The Knoxx Family, speak. Michael Knoxx speaks of his ordeal that cost him most of his right leg and his faith in God that kept him going. Getting out was not easy for her and she had to stand up to her parents and speak her mind.  Something not done among the Amish. The next thing on Penny’s list was to get a job and become independent. She was hired at the Orange Blossom Inn. Michael Knoxx just happened to be there recuperating from surgery. One of Penny’s duties is to make sure Michael is comfortable and has everything he needs. She takes him his meals, snacks, whatever he wants. A friendship blossoms between the two.  Does this friendship grow into something more? What is the proposal at the beach? Actually, there are two of them. You’ll have to read this wonderfully written book to find out. I absolutely loved it and didn’t want it to end and neither will you! Thank you Shelley for another great read!!

Another well written book by Shelley Shepard Gray! No matter how bad your situation is or how overwhelmed life has you feeling, God is there for you and so are your family and friends. This is a main theme throughout this book. The characters rely on love and faith to see them through their life struggles. You are reunited with some of the characters from Book 1 in the Amish Brides of Pinecraft series, but you don't have to read Book 1 to follow the storyline, but I highly recommend you do, since it's a great series. One of the new characters in The Proposal at Siesta Key is Penny Troyer, and she is a pistol. She has the guts and courage to stand up to her parents and make them see that there is a life out there - to stop hiding from it and enjoy it. She goes after what she wants - happiness! So find yourself a little corner to curl up in, put on your flip flops, and spend some time in Pinecraft, FL. Enjoy some beach time.
