The Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway

The Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway is one of the oldest narrow gauge railways in the world. It began life in 1873 to carry iron ore from the English Lake District's Eskdale to the coast. In 1913 it was converted to a 15 inch gauge track after it had fallen on hard times. Now, over 100 years later, it is thriving and carries thousands of tourists each day through typical lakeland scenery.
