With being a fan of The Royal Runaway, I was over the moon when I heard about Caroline, Theodora’s estranged sister, getting her own story in The Royal Bodyguard. It didn’t quite hit home with me like it did with Theodora’s story, but I loved that we get to know Caroline a bit more and just their family, overall. I’m becoming quite the fan of Lindsay’s writing, she pulls you in from the very beginning. And even though I wasn’t loving it as much as I hoped, I was engaged the whole time. I was hoping for more of a connection between Caroline and Hugh. There’s definitely some history there and evident that they liked each other, but I wasn’t exactly feeling it. I felt like we only got to see one side of Caroline and Hugh, and was wishing for a little bit development with their character. Caroline was so focused on her estrangement more than anything else. She even held it against her sister, which seemed a little uncalled for. However, I absolutely adore Theodora, so that could be why I loved the little reunion between Caroline and Theodora, even though it seemed a bit rough at first. With that being said, I still enjoyed this read and am definitely looking forward to the next one since one of the story arcs is still going. **I RECEIVED A COMPLIMENTARY READER'S COPY FROM THE PUBLISHER FOR AN HONEST REVIEW. Took me a while to really get into this one, and when I finally did I have to say it was just okay. Caroline was strong and true to herself, never looking back and regretting the sacrifices she made. Hugh, well, I still don't know what to think of him. Kind of a cold fish. Anyway, mystery solved and on to the next one. Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for the opportunity to read this arc.
I absolutely loved this book. It's the kind of story that draws you in right from the start until the end. Caroline and Hugh are both amazing characters and their story is quite intriguing. They both have the same goal of finding answers regarding the ex of Caroline's sister. This book has mystery and romance, a perfect mixture. I'd definitely recommend this book for anyone who is looking for a lighthearted mystery to read.
A sweet fairytale story. Caroline is the black sheep of the royal family and is recovering from the death of her family. Hugh is the man who had broken her heart and is once again her bodyguard. The story is filled with multiple layers of intrigue between the different characters. The plot is filled with plenty of surprises and plot twists. As they continue to run from danger they also get to know each and find themselves and love.
It is told from Caroline's POV and it is a bit like she is talking to us at times - this is a writing style I tend to enjoy especially with ROM Com's for me it creates a stronger connection with the mc Caroline seems to have a lot of secrets hiding in her closet and as the story progresses it looks as though if they were to be exposed not only might they be damaging to her personally (royal image and all that jazz) but they also might hurt those she cares about. Curious it seems by nature and maybe even a bit of nurture (wait till you meet moms- heck grandma even) Caroline tends to waltz right into trouble even when she is trying to be helpful. I did find her various predicaments quite amusing as well as her inner monologues. I had to remind myself at times she was raised as a princess so her "real world" skills are not quite present? Putting it mildly Then we have Hugh - Hugh is a cautious man - A man of few words. A big bear of a man that I would definitely cuddle with on a cold Dresdin evening... Just saying I liked that he tried to do what he perceived as the right thing even if he eventually figured out that he didn't have a chance of following the book when it came to his Princess The story line was pretty solid and kept an entertaining pace, for the most part, occasionally there was a bit of a lull or something occurred that pulled me out of the story. The end was a bit abrupt but it did seem to tie up the story line ... for now. Since I did not read the first in this series I did have to put the pieces together (which was quite easy) regarding Leah and now I am curious about her story. The copy I read was comp #TheRoyalBodyguard #NetGalley
