Ava Lewis is a jewelry maker. As the only women jeweler where she works or that she knows in the business. Ava opens her door to find her brother who immediately falls unconscious to the floor. When she gets him awake and onto the sofa he tells her he's dying, wounded by a poisoned blade. He demands that she take his pouch full of jewels and run. The only option she sees is to sign up as a mail-order bride under an assumed name, Jane Smith.

Seamus 'Lucky' Madigan is a saloon owner. He won three different saloons in poker games and now makes a good living from the businesses. He sees how happy his friend and former captain is with his mail-order bride and orders one for himself. He desires a bride who hasn't known every man in town in an intimate way. Someone he could introduce to his mother, if he had one alive.

When the same man who killed her brother comes after Ava it will take all his skill with a knife and as a part of a sniper unit to protect his new bride.

About the Author

Cynthia Woolf is the award winning and best-selling author of thirty-one historical western romance books and two short stories with more books on the way.

Cynthia loves writing and reading romance. Her first western romance Tame A Wild Heart, was inspired by the story her mother told her of meeting Cynthia’s father on a ranch in Creede, Colorado. Although Tame A Wild Heart takes place in Creede that is the only similarity between the stories. Her father was a cowboy not a bounty hunter and her mother was a nursemaid (called a nanny now) not the ranch owner. The ranch they met on is still there as part of the open space in Mineral County in southwestern Colorado.

Writing as CA Woolf she has six scifi, space opera romance titles. She calls them westerns in space.

Cynthia credits her wonderfully supportive husband Jim and her great friends and critique partners for saving her sanity and allowing her to explore her creativity.

This is the second book in the Mail Order Bride series--and actually the reason I picked up The Dancing Bride, the first in this series (see my review here). Sapphires are my favorite gems--(maybe because it is my birthstone)? I just could not resist!! I am so glad I did!! Both of these novels have the main female character running to the mail order bride office to escape people who are trying to or who would like to kill them! Ava, in this novel is one strong female character. Her new husband has a lot to learn and she is just the one to teach him. When the killers come to town ---- well I don't want to give up the whole story---you'll just have to read it! I will be reading more in this series--that is a promise to myself!!

This book was not as enjoyable as the first one. It had a few lulls, as if the author got sleepy, bored or distracted. She picked up the pace in later chapters and then sped to the end. I still liked it though. Simone24

Excellent storyline and cast of characters especially Lucky and Ava. Ava had spunk and in one of the scenes...Wow, she was a 21st century woman! I realky enjoyed this book. It was great to have the characters, Jack and Rita reappear along with Robert and Henry. HEA ending to the story. On to book 3. ****vrnb****

Really good story, but it felt rushed. I didn't feel nearly as attached to these characters as I did with the first bc the pace didn't allow for as much charcter development

Cynthia Woolf has an extraordinary ability to take a common historical romance subject such as a mail order bride and weave a story imbued with laughter, tears, sensuality, and suspense, making it a non-stop joy to read. The Sapphire Bride is the 2nd book in the Central City Brides series and I was emotionally hooked from the first chapter all the way to the final page! The series revolves around 4 men who bonded while part of an elite unit in the Union army during the Civil War and this story spotlights Seamus "Lucky" Madigan, a charming saloon owner looking to settle down with a respectable wife and start a family. Ava Lewis, an under appreciated New York city jewelry designer and in need of a safe place and fresh start after the murder of her twin brother, becomes Lucky's mail order bride. This book can be read as a stand alone, but I heartily recommend the first book of the series, The Dancing Bride. I received a copy of this book from the author. All opinions expressed are my own.

I received an advance copy of this book for my honest review. I was so glad that Lucky's story was the next one in the Capital City Brides series. This author always provides a good story. I like that Rita from book one, The Dancing Bride, becomes friends and a business partner with the new bride, Ava. These are strong women in a time when corsets made movement and just breathing difficult. Ms. Woolf's format made not differ much from book to book, but it's a recipe that consistently works. Her characters become alive and I find myself laughing and crying with each book. This book could stand alone but you will enjoy it more if you start with book one, The Dancing Bride where you will meet all the potential grooms for this series. Start reading. I guarantee you won't be disappointed with this author's tales. Enjoy!!!

After Ava's twin brother is murdered, she becomes a mail-order bride so she can escape before the killer comes for her. Her brother gave her some jewels that another man claims belong to him. Lucky meets Ava, she is going by the name Jane so her brother's killer can't find her, and they are married immediately. Between the guy hunting Ava and Lucky's ex, they really have to watch their backs. When all the dust settles, will they be able to stay married?
