The Secret Room held the perfect amount of information for young readers before they start getting overwhelmed with too many facts and start glazing over them. It held creative ways to integrate the history of the town into the story with the tour guides and even the Bed and Breakfast host. It even piqued my interest as an adult reader after learning why the town so abruptly halted in its population boom and had me craving some fudge and a stop at Jefferson’s General Store to take a look around. The foundation of the story was strong and captured a great balance of speed with the heightened mystery level. I loved that it was entertaining, but also substantial and educational. A young reader will be so wrapped up in the investigation of this secret room they won’t even realize how much they are learning in the details. I love a book that can teach me something especially when it is entertaining in the process and The Secret Room accomplished that.
