THE SHEPHERD OF THE HILLS (SET IN BRANSON, MISSOURI)
SHEPHERD OF THE HILLS….A NOVEL SET IN BRANSON, MISSOURI AND ESTABLISHED WRIGHT AS A BEST-SELLING AUTHOR….RESULTING IN BRANSON BECOMING A MAJOR TOURIST ATTRACTION! A REMARKABLE BOOK! 210 PAGES IN PRINT! WHOLESOME READING!

• This volume includes a “Detailed Biography” of our author, Harold Bell Wright.

A fine sentimental tale about an Ozark community -- a city gentleman comes to stay and learns of his own, secret connection to the folks in Mutton Hollow. There's romance, philosophy, fighting, and it all adds up to a pretty good melodrama.

This is Wright's second novel, set in Branson, Missouri and established him as a best-selling author and attracted a growing stream of tourists to the little-known town of Branson, resulting in its becoming a major tourist destination.

Several plots develop throughout the story, each one seeming irrelevant when compared to another, yet they are all interwoven masterfully by the end of the book. There is the lonely stranger, who wanders into the hills, and changes the community and then learns something about himself and the meaning of life. Readers then watch Sammy Lane struggle to become a "sure 'nough lady," and will most likely cheer on Young Matt as he fights to steal Sammy's heart from Ollie Stewart, though he knows Ollie promises Sammy a rich city life. Readers are also involved in Young Matt's and Wash Gibb's struggles to the title of "Strongest Man in the Hills." And Old Matt, Aunt Mollie and the Shepherd are forced to relive the past and learn from it, no matter how strong the pain is.

"There are many bits of excellent description in the course of the story, and an atmosphere as fresh and sweet and free from modern grime as one would breathe on the Ozark trails themselves."--

Wright was a minister before turning to novel writing full-time, and a lot of what he writes comes across to some readers as sermonizing.
