Josep Renau was an influential Spanish artist, intellectual, and political activist during the Spanish Civil War, and one of the first of his peers to assess the poster’s role in society. In this treatise, first published in 1937, the artist records the history of the poster, establishes its taxonomy, and provides a critical analysis of mass-produced art that remains relevant today.
