Jake Spencer was the kindest, truest, strongest man I'd ever met. He also had the worst childhood I could imagine. All he needed was a chance and someone to love him. I gave him everything I could, but it wasn't enough.
It took me a long time to accept that there was nothing else I could have done. That disappointment has followed me ever since. I built a career and a supportive network of friends, but kept love out of my life.
I was on the rise and thought nothing could slow me down, until my greatest failure came back to haunt me. Jake came home, stronger and wiser. Whatever it was he needed to overcome his past, he'd found it. Somewhere, or with someone, else. I hated that it wasn't with me.
His sudden reappearance has thrown my life into a tailspin. He's back to claim the life he wanted, to be the man he says I deserved, but I'm not the girl I used to be. Professionally I am powerful and moving up. Personally I'm broken and uncertain, but mainly...I'm angry. Falling in love with Jake was the easiest thing I'd ever done, losing him was the hardest, and giving him a second chance might just cost me everything.
***Alexis Anne novels are explicitly romantic. You will find intense stories of love, passion, and self-discovery, alongside intimately detailed encounters that can only occur when two people are falling hopelessly in love. These novels are best suited for readers seventeen and up due to these exciting reasons. And language. Alexis Anne uses a lot of language.

I was given this book as an ARC for an honest review. I gave this book 5 stars. This is Jake and Eve's story. Eve has been gone from her home town and has lived in California for the last ten years. She left home to go to college, she has always wanted to be in the medical field. She comes home to attend her grandfathers funeral, and to her surprise her first love Jake is the Pastor that is handling the funeral. This is a story that shows you the past and the present, it is very well done, and I found myself enjoying the past and the present. Sometimes that is hard to do in a book but Alexis did it very well. Things have happened in the past that made Eve walk away, Jake and Eve made promises to each other and life got in the way. And things happened and Eve has a HUGE secret. When she tells Jake will he understand and forgive or will it tear them apart just like life did ten years ago. They have both made mistakes and they have both paid for these mistakes. Can life give them a second chance at love? And if not can they at least learn to forgive each other and most importantly themselves. This book tore at my heart, I was so sad for the things that happened to these two, they tried so hard to be together and love each other and life got in the way. THEY got in the way of each other, they were both selfish and did things that tore them apart. But when your young the things that you do at the time you are doing them, feel right. Even if they are going to affect you for the rest of your life. Decisions and mistakes were made and hearts are broken. My heart exploded over and over again for these two hearts. I wanted so badly to go back in time for them and fix all that happened. Life is sometimes hard and it shows in this relationship and they love each other so much, but it also goes to show that sometimes when you love someone you make decisions that end up where you two aren't together. I cried. and then I cried some more. This is not a perfect book, this is a life book, and it shows you what happens when you make decisions alone. Thank you Alexis for this amazing book, I am so glad that I got the chance to read it. I look forward to reading what you have coming up next. <3
The Storm Inside by Alexis Anne 4 stars i loved the writers portrayal of what life can throw at young love. It shows some of the reasons why its sometimes a good idea to wait a while before getting all serious with someone. Eve and Jake were madly in love when they were young, so much so that each would die for the other, would give up everything and anything in order to be with each other, to the inclusion of losing themselves. Jake left town 10 years ago without a word to anyone. He was just gone. And Eve was broken. Now, 10 years later, and Jake is standing on her lawn wanting a second chance. The ups and downs of their relationship will have your laughing, crying, screaming and cheering. It is a great read. Book was given in exchange for an honest review.
