Overview

The Sword of Summer (Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard Series #1) by Rick Riordan

Magnus Chase has always been a troubled kid. Since his mother’s mysterious death, he’s lived alone on the streets of Boston, surviving by his wits, keeping one step ahead of the police and the truant officers. One day, he’s tracked down by an uncle he barely knows—a man his mother claimed was dangerous. Uncle Randolph tells him an impossible secret: Magnus is the son of a Norse god. The Viking myths are true. The gods of Asgard are preparing for war. Trolls, giants and worse monsters are stirring for doomsday. To prevent Ragnarok, Magnus must search the Nine Worlds for a weapon that has been lost for thousands of years. When an attack by fire giants forces him to choose between his own safety and the lives of hundreds of innocents, Magnus makes a fatal decision. Sometimes, the only way to start a new life is to die . . .

Wow! This looks awesome. I have read every book Rick has writen, and every one of them has been AMZING .they are the best books I have ever read ( and that's a lot). Rick is a amzing author and my favorite author.please read the Percy Jackson and the Olympians and The Heroes Of Olympus and The Kane Chronicles they are the BEST books I have ever read. They have gotten me though some tough stuff. They make you feel like you can do anything. Bottem line is that the books are great, and Rick's a GREAT author, and you should read these books please read them.

Theyre related. Annabeth says she has a cousin and an uncle in Boston, and also she knows about the Eygptain gods, so she knows about the roman and the greek and the egyptain plus she is related to the norse gods. I think i want to be in her family.

Annabeth is my favorite charecter in all if Rick Riordan's books. my reaction to the first chapter of Magnus Chase: AHHHHHH THIS IS CRAZY WHAT THE HECK IS HAPPENING THIS IS THE WEIRDEST THING TO EVER HAPPEN IN A BOOK!!! This book looks amzing and Annabeth is awesome. I think I am a child of Athena.

Riordan shows again that any mythology can be turned into a modern story. The Norse gods and goddesses and the history was well written and researched. I am looking forward to how all 4 of these Pantheons are going to finally incorporate together.

The book was good I wouldn't say it was my favorite one uncle Rick has written. I didn't think it was as good a the percy jackson books but it was still good. I can't wait to read the rest of the series and the hinted upcoming series hopefully

I was kinda obsessed with the Percy Jackson series, yeah never really got over him.... but this book is awesome too ! It's definitely more realistic (he doesn't just harness the strongest powers in the world in a day, he is still trying to figure out how to use his sword). READ ITTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rick Riordan doesn't disappoint. Can't wait for the next book. The Norse mythology was always a favorite of mine and this book definitely does for Norse mythology what Percy Jackson and Jason Grace did for Greek and Roman mythology. Love the Chase family connection.

Mr. Riordian has done it again, combining ancient mythology with modern times. Seriously, how many times can one man do it? I recomend this to anyone who enjoys mythology as much as I do.

I really liked this book because Magnus is really funny, and the plot goes along smoothly. Also there is some reference to the percy jackson series, like one of the chapter titles has "Jason Grace" in it. Also Magnus is Annabeth's cousin, and she is in this book, three scenes. Beginning middle end. Interesting. Anyway, this is a great book and you should totally read it. I estimate this takes place sometime after the events in the blood of olympus book. READ THIS BOOK!

In this book, Riordan seems to have forced pieces together. It is definitely not as polished as his last series. Perhaps targetting a slightly younger target group? I would say tweens for this one. He also seems to have brought some of the early Piers Anthony style Xanth whimsy into this book as well. It is not a good mix. It has the feel of one of those books force written to meet a publisher's deadline. It is definitely not as adult friendly as his Heroes of Olympus series. On it's own likely a four star, but having read his prior work...I know what he is capable of, so only three.

A truly daring tale of great power. Riordan has has turning page after page, each word as daring and hooking as the one before it. This is a must read.

This is a great book though it may upset some younger or more sensitive readers. In the begining there is a lot of death and near death. It helps to know norse mythologie or just a bit about vikings. This book obviously was not designed for younger or begining readers as there is a few hard words to read and some, lets say, inapropriate ones. A lot of team spirit and it may help to read the Percy Jackson and Heroes of Olympus series. ~#Readingislife P.S. I am a bookworm.

This book is by far the best rick riordan has wrote. ( in my opinion) he is funny, not insanely strong and is for the most part modest. *cough cough PERCY cough* i am ten and this is by far my favorite rick riordan book.

I became ubsessed with Percy Jackson, and came across this. I'll review the pros and cons, (no spoilers). Pros- Magnus really reminded me of Percy. Its Norse god noob friendly, I have read next to nothing of the Norse gods, and Rick made it easy to understand. The really hilarious chapter names, like in Percy Jackson. Now i am going to seem like a critic for a sec. Cons- for some weird reason, they made refrences to Percy Jackson/Heros of olympus, it was unessecary. Annabeth and Magnus are cousins, but Rick basicly teased me by bringing Annabeth in for a bit, but not really helping. She realized Magnus wa a demigod, but never outright said so. Like she said there was ''some plac safe for people like us"-obviously refering to Camp Half Blood. It wasn't as good as I had hoped, after reading Percy Jackson, but it wasn't horrible. Ah and we have to wait until October for the next book. Uncle Rick loves his cliff hangers. So yes, unessecary relations and refrences to the Percy Jackson series were madee. Also, having read Percy Jackson, it is not at ALL necessary tht you read PJ before reading this, just helpful whn Annabeth come in like twice and drops some hints, and its cool to see how alike Percy and Magnus and Annabeth and Sam are so alike, I think Rick based them off each other. This is great. We can all forget about the Hero series that was seriously lacking and had an heir of being rushed but this great work is what we've come to expect from the legend that is Riordan
