About the Author
At some point, I got away from Indians. My mother blames boys. I discovered Victorian novels and didn't look back - not for almost two decades. I got a Bachelor's of Arts in English from Truman State University and a Master's of Arts in English from The Ohio State University.
And through it all, I knew I wanted to write novels. I just had no idea how to do it.
It took a caffeine-fueled car trip with my 92-year-old grandmother and two-year-old son in July of 2007 to awaken my Muse. That story would become my first book as I figured out how, exactly, one writes a novel.
Let's just say the learning curve was steep.
One character led to another, and before long, I found my characters out in South Dakota, among the Lakota Sioux tribe. Modern-day cowboys, who are the Indians - without planning it this way, I find myself writing about the people and places that held my imagination throughout my childhood.
In 2010, I sold my first novel, the award-winning Indian Princess, to Stacy Boyd of Harlequin Desire. The book will be released in 2012. Stay tuned for more updates!

The Texans One-Night Standoff is Charlene Sands’ contribution to Harlequin Desire’s Dynasties: The Newports. I’ve read every book in the series. This is a standalone but I suggest reading the other books in the series because each one is fabulous! This is a classic storyline, but Ms. Sands put a terrific twist on it. I loved how she weaved Ruby into Brooks finding his father, Beau Preston. The twist— Ruby was like a daughter to Beau and worked closely with him on his horse farm. The attraction of Brooks to Ruby was instant and flowed throughout the story. I enjoyed seeing Brooks connect emotionally with his father. Ms. Sands did a phenomenal job pulling out the emotions in both Beau and his son. I also loved watching Ruby and Brooks fall in love. This was a fantastic read that I highly recommend. I’d like to disclose that I voluntarily read and reviewed The Texans One-Night Standoff and am providing a true and honest review.
Brooks Newport had come to Cool Springs, Texas to meet his biological father Beau Preston. His first night in Texas turns out to be one that he wouldn’t be able to forget. Brooks meets a hot Latina in a bar and they end up back at his hotel room. They both agreed it would only be a one night thing. The next day when Brooks runs into Ruby at Look Away Ranch, he knew things would be going much further than just one night. But Ruby works for Beau and he considers her part of the family, meaning she should be off limits. Ruby Lopez and her boyfriend had broken up six months ago. When she meets Brooks at the C’mon Inn, she decides it was finally time to move on, not with a full blown romance, but a one nighter would fulfill her needs. While Brooks gets to know his father, he also gets to know Ruby even better. Their secret get togethers bring out feelings they were both trying to deny. But when Ruby’s ex-boyfriend, Trace, shows back up in Cool Springs, things get a bit more complicated. I really liked this book. Ruby and Brooks had great chemistry. They were two opposites who brought out the best in each other. I also enjoyed the other characters in the book. They all worked well together to make a memorable story. The book moved along really quickly and every page brought something new and exciting.
