The Third Position
The Third Position is a current-day tale of murder and intrigue, with historic, economic, and political undertones. The protagonist, CHARLES “CHAZ” ARNOLD, is a seasoned Black business executive in the medical device industry, and he has a problem. In fact, he may have two problems. Chaz is the president and chief operating officer of Catalyst Vision AG, an advanced technology, medical device business, which is being targeted in a control battle by billionaire Swiss industrialist HEINZE MUELLER. In the midst of the battle, as Chaz fights for his and the company’s survival, Heinze Mueller and his female companion are found murdered in Mueller’s Swiss chalet and suspicion is directed toward Chaz by Mueller’s prodigy and rival to Chaz, RHEINHARD SCHWARTZ. Though Chaz is innocent, he is aware of a guardian angel who has over the years apparently shadowed his every move and intervened on his behalf, maybe even to the extent of murder—murder(s) that previously had never been solved nor linked to Chaz. Now, however, INTERPOL and the FBI are involved in the form of Inspector IAN CALLOWAY and FBI director WRIGHT AGEE, respectively. Faced with new advanced police technology and crack INTERPOL and FBI teams led by Senior Lead Investigator ANTOINETTE LUCIENNE and Wright Agee, Chaz realizes that his disturbed continence, due to his knowledge and suspicions of his angel and concern for keeping the bond and relationship between them a secret, may give rise to a false indication of his guilt. MAI LEI, the angel, belongs to the secret world of espionage and black ops, and may have her own motivations for the killings and protection of Chaz. As Chaz attempts to deal with all the mounting eccentricities in his life, he must also deal with ANDREAS VAN DER KLERK, an ex-Rhodesian mercenary and assassin sent to kill him by forces unknown. With the backdrop of the historic 2008 U.S. presidential elections, and a climactic encounter in Denver at the site of the Democratic National Convention, Chaz confronts Van der Klerk, and comes to a surprise reconciliation with his angel, Mai Lei.

About the Author

C. Signoret Echols is a native Georgian who spent his early years on the streets of New York and was then educated in the Midwest. He now resides in Houston, Texas. He is a veteran business executive, with over thirty years of experience in the financial services and medical device businesses.
