I just finished this one last night and I have to say that Kerrelyn has done it again. This one was great, I didn't want to put it down. I have read all her books in this series and I am never disappointed.

The Vampire With the Dragon Tattoo was a fabulous addition to the Love at Stake Series.
Dougal Kincaid has just been reassigned to Romatech as head of security. It seems after a few years of recouping from the loss of his hand in battle he is ready to turn in his responsibilities as Jean Luc’s family’s personal body guard and return to full service.
Just when he thinks everything might be taking a turn for the better, Dr. Leah Chin is brought into the vampire world. Dougal believes Leah is his reincarnated lover...a lover he lost 300 years ago. Now his well practiced stoicism is going to be tested as he faces the doctor’s reluctance to believe in the vampire world.
Darafar and Master Han are plotting evil deeds and Leah’s research might just solve Romatech’s problem...this creates a big bull’s-eye on Leah’s head. Can Dougal learn to love again or will he loose the love of his life once again?
Kerrelyn Sparks has a fascinating way of pulling funny and serious together to blend into a wonderfully crafted story. For a heart racing, action packed love story with a hot alpha with fangs in a kilt check out The Vampire With the Dragon Tattoo.

The Vampire with the Dragon Tattoo by Kerrelyn Sparks
Love at Stake Series Book 14
Dougal Kincaid has been at his cushy job in Texas since losing his hand four years ago. He does not want cushy, he wants action, fighting, to feel as if he's still useful. He has lost his hand, his music and his true love. Isn't that enough? And then everything changes. He's reinstated at Romatech and the new doctor that arrived brings heat to his dragon. Could she be the woman he failed three hundred years ago?
Dr. Leah Chin isn't sure what to do. These crazy people are telling her that vampires and other things of campfire tales exist. And like everyone in her life, they want her for what she can help them with. She wants to be wanted as a person. She's not sure that includes being wanted by the hunky pirate looking Scot, who also happens to be a vampire.
What a journey these two go on. Fighting a forceful demon and the past. These guys may be big and tough and fairly indestructible, but when their hearts are stolen they turn into a puddle of insecurity. Wanting to be loved even if they happen to be undead. And to be the alpha males wanting to protect their loves, and yet pulled into a death sleep each day...well it just ain't easy on the poor guys. Another great addition to this series. Another kilted man to steal your heart.

I will admit it did a few minutes to remember who Dougal was and his back story. Once I remembered I can not imagine why he didn't have his own story sooner. In the series the Scottish vamps do have a special place in my heart, so I will always adore their stories. This one was light hearted, funny, sad, and romantic all in once. It did a great job weaving the other past characters together especially that of his sire. If you want a fun read this book will not disappoint.

While this was an entertaining read, it read like something a high school student would write. Vampires that are hundreds of years old, calling each other 'Dude,' and fist pumping the air, come on.
In the story the author says it's 2011 (or 12), but uses phrased that were left in the 90's. The story is choppy at best, leaving out much needed detail, and the characters are underdeveloped.
Ms. Sparks has her heroine, who was a child prodigy and social outcast during her educational years, now totally devoted to her work, falling into bed with a Kilt wearing Vamp within weeks,
without the slightest bit of modesty. Now, I love a man in a Kilt (I'm 1/2 Scots, 1/2 Irish), but someone who's supposed to be a naive as she makes Dr. Leah Chin out to be, wouldn't
be as forward the first time, no matter how attractive she found him to be. I know its fantasy, full of vampires, were-animals and demons and angles, and it was entertaining, it just could have been
so much more.

Although I am a huge fan and love the series, at times I questioned who actually wrote this. It was difficult to read the predictable and choppy writing. This was the first book in the series that I actually thought about just closing and not finishing. The plot had potential but the writing and character interactions was painful.....sorry. Hoping the next book will not feel so rushed.

I wandered into this book and then discovered that it was rather late in the series. DRAT! Now I will have to go start with the beginning. Why? Because, although it is easily stand alone, I became so invested in the characters and activities that I want to find out more. The plot is well woven, and the characters clearly delineated, what with superhero abilities, professional women, and (I admit it) Kilts. The romance is between a brilliant research physician and a vampire with a bionic hand. The battles are in the US, Japan, and China with Vampires and shifters vs. demon and evil vamps. Oh, and God's warrior angels come in near the end to defend free will.
