The Vanguard tells the story of frontiersman, Clark B. Stocking, who was a pivotal figure in opening of the West to pioneers, cattlemen and farmers. The book is supposedly based on the Stocking's notes. Bronson claims to have met Stocking while the fearless scout, soldier, and lawman was riding shotgun on the Deadwood Stage.
