Not bad for a free book. I am not sure whether I'd pay to buy other books by this author. four stars because I'm grateful that it was free.

AMAZING STORY!  You can't go wrong with the writing's of Denise Domning.  She has a way of pulling you into the story, that you feel you're a part of it.  The writing is suspenseful, has intrigue, villians, lovemaking that is just passtionate enough to warm you on a cold night.  I am not going into the premise of the story, as the author has explained it, but the connection between Rafe and Kate was amazing.  Our h is way to trusting, and this causes her to get into trouble, but our H is always near by.  My heart ached for Kate and her road to HEA at times.  The secondary character's seemed so real too and I can't wait for the next book in the series, because the H in it was a favorite of mine in this book.  There isn't a cliffhanger, and the author does include an epilogue  but only 3 months in the future.  If  you haven't read Denise books, take a chance on Hearts of Valor, she has two stories in it, along with two other author's, wonderful bundle.  (ljb)

I enjoyed these complicated characters so much. Flawed and ,sometimes, frustratingly human, they made the story real.

Very good, but I would love to read a book where there isn't such a lack of communication and misunderstanding between the main couple. It was nice to see the hero acknowledge and love his illegitimate son.

What a jewel to find this book. I so enjoyed the story line along with the twists and turns of events. Kate is a young widow with little love or joy in her young life. She is doomed to marry yet again, the man of her father's choice. Rafe is a young knight that loves chasing skirts of married women. With many opportunities since he is a knight of the king's. The book begins at the ceremony of the Haydon daughter being married. Safe spots Kate from across the church and decides she will be his next conquest. That is until his brother Will sets him straight that she is the daughter of their sworn enemy. But as the brothers begins to think she might be the answer to their families feud with the Daubney's. Lots of suspense and quick thinking on many characters parts. You never seem to know where the book and the characters are headed. I have already bought the 2nd book in the series The Warrior's Maiden and I'm sure I'll wanna read the 3rd book in the series The Warrior's Game. Warning: a bit of a cliffhanger at the end of book 1, but you wanna see what happens next.

The characters are the biggest draw for me. I fell in love with (or loved to hate) every single one. I really enjoyed the mix of romance, feuds, and politics in the novel. It kept me interested the whole way through!

I got this one for free, but enjoyed it so much I went and bought the other two in this series. Yes, it's on the predictable side and drags a smidgen in the middle, but the characters are really delightful. Rafe's personal transformation from tomcat to husband material is interesting to read and Kate discovering passion and her own spirit is also very cool. I would even pick this one up and read it again.

I completely enjoyed this book. I found I had to sneak in a chapter here and there whenever I could. This author is a great story-teller not only pulling you into the medieval times but describes each scene so you can picture it as if you're there. Loved everything about this book except when they first arrived at Kate's holding. I got frustrated with her but she soon found her truth. Great read.

I really enjoyed it. He was a great leading character and she just needed to be loved. Nothing wrong with that. I'm looking forward to the next one.
