About the Author

James F. Childress is the Hollingsworth Professor of Ethics and Professor of Medical Education at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, where he also directs the Institute for Practical Ethics. He is the author of numerous articles and several books in biomedical ethics, including Practical Reasoning in Bioethics.

John Macquarrie was Lady Margaret Professor Emeritus of Divinity at the University of Oxford and Canon Emeritus of Christ Church in Oxford prior ro his death in 2007. Macquarrie is internationally known as an outstanding interpreter of theology.

Editorial Reviews

With Childress as primary editor, this work revises Macquarrie's well-known Dictionary of Christian Ethics (Westminster, 1967). The new edition has many additional entries, such as ``Death, Determination of'' and ``Deprogramming.'' Where possible, the original contributors have updated their own articles, and entries are generally longer than before, with revised bibliographies and more cross-references.
