Overview

The Cat in the Hat introduces beginning readers to maps–the different kinds (city, state, world, topographic, temperature, terrain, etc.); their formats (flat, globe, atlas, puzzle); the tools we use to read them (symbols, scales, grids, compasses); and funny facts about the places they show us (“Michigan looks like a scarf and a mitten! Louisiana looks like a chair you can sit in!”).

We used this to start off our geography homeschool lessons. My boys, ages 2, 4 and 6 loved it. A must read in the learning library series!

This book teaches all about maps and how to use and read them. My kids love it and want to read it over and over again. And they are learning more about maps each time they read it - and why and how we use maps.

As a 6th grade social studies and geography teacher, I wish all of my student's parents had read them this book often during their elementary years. That way I wouldn't be taking the extra time to teach them material that should only be a review in 6th grade. I highly recommend this book for the easy explanations of everything associated with geography! A great first "text book!"

This book, inspired by Dr. Seuss, is all about maps. The author gives the reader a clear definition of maps and at the bottom of each page has a box with extended definitions. For example the author gives the definition of the word cartographer. This is a great book for children, with great illustrations.
