There's No Such Thing as a Dragon by Jack Kent

A classic dragon tale returns in paperback!

When Billy Bixbee finds a tiny dragon in his bedroom, his mom tells him, “There’s no such thing as a dragon!” This only makes the dragon get bigger. He grows, and grows, and grows, until he’s bigger than Billy’s house—and that’s just the beginning!

Charming text and playful illustrations by well-known author-illustrator Jack Kent pair in a terrific story that demonstrates how a little attention can make a big difference, no matter what size the problem.

There's No Such Thing as a Dragon was my favorite picture book as a child. Not only does it have a dragon in it, which absolutely thrilled me, that dragon is hilarious! It tries on pajamas, eats Billy's pancakes, chases after the bread truck, and grows so big that Billy's mother has to lift its tail to mop the floor properly. Jack Kent's illustrations are vivid and friendly, their cartoonish lines conveying just the right shades of emotion, and the text is short enough for a bedtime read, yet still long enough to allow for a meaningful story. The story itself is amusing and insightful, just as enjoyable now as when I read it as a child.

NO SUCH THING AS A DRAGON is second only to Jack Kent's SOCKS FOR SUPPER (currently out of print)in my list of favorite children's books of all time. And I've yet to meet a child who didn't just fall in love with the Dragon and the story itself. Great for girls or boys and for the grown-ups who do the reading as well....

This book teaches us that we must identify (or admit to) our problems before the problems carry us away(literally). I first read it to my children as a bedtime book. Later I let some of my adult friends read it. They all agree! I am considering using it in manufacturing consulting.
