River Tribe and fans of Lisa's books are going to be sailing through time--and through the book itself--as they venture into another fantastical read. Three Wishes, book 1 in the River of Time: California, is another time-traveling historical book, following orphaned Zara Ruiz as she falls back in time to 1840 Alta California. There Zara encounters the dashing Javier de la Ventura and his family. And the longer she remains, the more Zara struggles to decide if her Three Wishes is truly coming to the light. I whole-heartedly loved the River of Time Series (Waterfall, Cascade, Torrent, etc....), and Three Wishes while in a different time and place is no disappointment. The emotions Zara juggles with is felt, and Javier's attentive and caring manner is adorable, especially when they try to help each other overcome their own emotions and problems. Definitely anticipating for book two, Four Winds.

Three Wishes by Lisa T. Bergren is a super fun spin-off of the original River of Time Series. This time we meet a young lady named Zara Ruiz who finds herself time-traveling to Alta California in the 1840s! Now I’ve only read a couple of novels that take place in that time period in California so I found it super fun and unique. The book has the same feel as the originals so fans will be happy. It just has a much more lighter feel than the originals. I think that’s mostly because we aren’t dealing with the harsh times of Medieval Italy this time. Don’t get me wrong, frontier-life surely wasn’t easy, but it was much lighter and more romanticized. Zara was an instant character that I fell in love with immediately. Isn’t her name unique and beautiful? I love it! When we first meet her in the book, she’s grieving the loss of her abuela. She was the only family and person she had in her life. Her three wishes were adventure, love, and family. Except she didn’t expect to happen the way it does. It was so much watching her learn to adapt to life and culture in the 1840s while still battling with wanting to get back to her own time. Javier was also a super fun character. He’s the mysterious, rough but gentlemany gorgeous Mexican ranchero. He is the man who had return home from college and his dreams to take over the biggest and richest ranchero and to take care and protect his family. We don’t really get to learn much about his character, although bits and pieces are hinted at. Hopefully we’ll learn more in the sequel. Whether or not you’ve read the originals, you won’t want to miss out on these. While these are much lighter and somewhat different from the originals, you’ll still find adventure and the swoon-worthy romance with a dangerous premise that we all love and adore. Can’t wait to the next novel in store which is Four Winds. Disclaimer: I purchased a paperback copy of this novel. I was not required to write a positive review and have not been compensated for it in any way. All opinions expressed are my own.

Three Wishes is the first installment in Lisa Bergren’s new series River of Time: California. After reading the River of Time Series, I was excited to hear about this novel, and I was not disappointed. Zara is a 17 year old about to graduate high school. Following her grandmother’s death, she discovers a lamp on the beach outside her home. Suddenly, she is thrust one hundred and eighty years into the past where she meets the Ventura clan. She begins to develop feelings for one Ventura in particular: Javier de la Ventura. But Zara must decide if it is the past that holds the answers to her three wishes or the future. I loved this book. I could not put it down. Ms. Bergren knows how to write a story that includes the perfect amount of action, romance, and humor. And that was evidenced in this novel. The River of Time series will always be my favorite, but this novel ranks up there with the others. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

Another wonderful time traveling romance from Lisa T. Bergren! If you love stories that hit the ground running, Three Wishes will not disappoint! While mourning the recent loss of her dear Grandmother and caregiver, Zara's life takes a sudden turn as she winds up at the same place, in an earlier time! A way earlier time. Great character development and an exciting setting with lots of action. Three Wishes left me wishing to hear more of the story! Can't wait to find out where Zara goes from here.

I fell in love with the River if Time Series years ago when Lisa introduced some she-wolves from modern times to some hunky knights from medieval Italy. (If you haven't read Waterfall yet, you're missing out! Go forth and read this instant!) Three Wishes continues the trend Lisa started: hunky, chivalrous men, spunky heroines who make a splash in the time they land in, and wonderful stories to read and reread. (I think I've read the Italian River of Time Series four or five times... Maybe more. I've lost count) If you're looking for a fun, romantic historical novel, I highly recommend this one.
