Time For Me to Come Home by Dorothy Shackleford, Travis Thrasher

“It’s funny how going back can get you back to where you belong.
It’s the difference between just a melody and my favorite Christmas song.”

The fireplace is lit, the snow is falling, and sleigh bells echo in the distance—it’s Christmas, and it’s time to come home.

Thirty-five-year-old Heath Sawyer has finally made it to the big-time as a country music star. After a year full of the kind of success he could only dream of, it’s December 23, and he’s headlining a sold-out show at Madison Square Garden. It’s only as the lights on the stage go down and the Christmas lights outside come on that Heath realizes there’s just one place he wants to be for the holidays: back home in Okmulgee, Oklahoma.

But journeying anywhere on Christmas Eve is never easy, and with flight delays, inclement weather, and the unexpected company of a feisty young woman who’s about to become his traveling companion, Heath will need a Christmas miracle to make his way home in time to open presents.

Filled with touching anecdotes inspired by the real holiday memories of Blake Shelton and Dorothy Shackelford, Time for Me to Come Home is a sweet and funny story that celebrates the spirit of Christmas and the true meaning of finding your way back home.

Sometimes the best gift on Christmas is sharing it with the ones you love.

At first I wasn't sure how this story would all play out but by the time I got to the train and then the cousin and all of the Santas, I was laughing outloud and tears were running down my face, This book really needs to be a Hallmark movie for Christmas. I will be waiting to see the movie. Thanks so much for a very funny, yet differnt Christmas story. Loved it.

I think Dorothy Shackleford spoke of what she knows, and that would be her son, Blake Shelton. If you need a face to put with the character, just picture Blake. I found the book to be an enjoyable, light read and I'm looking forward to Ms. Shackleford's next book.

I LOVED this book by Blake Shelton's Mom! I know it wasn't suppose to be about him... But, I loved pretending it was him & the lady was me!!

Book is fun, light reading but keeps your interest. Still waiting to see if they get thru the blizzard and home to OK for Christmas.

Time for Me to Come Home was a wonderful and magical Christmas story by Dorothy Shackleford (Blake Shelton’s mother) and first novel. The novel is fictional; however, based on holiday memories the Grammy-nominated singer shares with his mom. His mom has written several songs, one of which is a song this novel was based on and appears on Shelton’s Christmas album, “Cheers, Its Christmas.” Heath Sawyer - 35-year-old country singer from Oklahoma who realizes that he wants to be home for Christmas when he performs a sold out show in Madison Square Garden. Plenty of challenges stand in the singer’s way as he tries to make his way home for the holidays. One being the weather, cancelled flights, derailing of Amtrack, and some crazy characters. One feisty and independent woman he meets at the airport is one which changes his heart. There are part of the book which even remind you of Blake with his fun-loving humorous wit and his love of drinking. A sweet Christmas book with love of family and some romance. I would highly recommend buying the audiobook by Dorothy Shackleford and Travis Thrasher as MacLeod Andrews was very sexy as the narrator and could listen to him all day and night!

This was a very easily read book, told in first person of the main character, Heath Sawyer.  Heath, a famous country singer heads home for Christmas.   He is amused by people recognizing him on occasion and their reactions to their recognition.   He tries to be polite, but there are those that could be stalkers in their midst. As life often does  when you're in a hurry.Heath encounters one unbelievable mishap after another on his journey home.  In my mind's eye, Heath sounded an awful like Blake Shelton, Shackleford's son.   I could just see Blake reacting to various characters in the book and hear him speaking to them as well.   I found the characters endearing and the story charming.   There was a great hesitation about returning home, but as great a need to be there existed.  There was a decision of the heart made by the main character that affected the secondary character as well and let's just say it was a lovely coming of awareness for Heath and Cara.

A true love and guess story! He had total share issues as well as she did but u knew that it would come together. His mother and family guided gently but it was his heart that took the final thrust to make the heart do what the heart wants. I was so wrapped up that I was so glad that she accepted the heart! Loved it!

I truly hope the song ( that this book is based on) is good, because this story was so awful! I finished it hoping it would get better. Too predicable. Rather simple, uninteresting writing. I always pick up a holiday story before Christmas to read in December. This one was just not a good choice. Sorry.
