Tithing to Grow in Christ: A Devotional Guide for the Church by Samuel Mills

Making your Tithing Count for your Growth in Christ

Your Tithing to Grow in Christ is more than a book. It is your devotional guide designed to practically assist you in spiritually relating to God personally in your tithing. As you use this devotional guide, you will soon find yourself experiencing seven things. These seven things are as follows:

Getting you closer to God
Thinking about God

Reading about God
Honoring God
Giving to God
Hearing from God

Next to the Bible, the Tithing to Grow in Christ is what you and every local church member must have. It is the devotional guide book that you need in order to tithe by the principle of knowing and relating to God personally. That was the principle of tithing God established with Abraham when he was made to tithe to Melchizedek in Genesis chapter 14.
Your spiritual growth in Christ in the areas of trusting, loving, and being holy to God is guaranteed with your use of the Tithing to Grow in Christ. It situates you into building a strong personal relationship with God and to nurture the integrity of the personal presence of God in your life. The integrity of the personal presence of God is what you need to be certain about the personal influence of God in your life.
Having the certainty concerning the personal influence of God in your life puts you above, calms your anxieties, reduces your stress, and gives you the peace and boldness to face any challenging situation, as it was the case with David in going out to fight with Goliath.

A Moment of Prayer

You are now going to talk to God concerning the integrity of His personal presence in your life.

Prayer Points

• Thank God for the gift of the integrity of His personal presence to you

• Pray, requesting that as He gave Abraham, David, and Elijah the gift of the integrity of His personal presence in their lives, He will likewise graciously continue to grant you that gift

• Pray, requesting that the Holy Spirit will build in you a condition of certainty concerning the personal presence of God so that you will act trusting God accordingly

• Worship the Lord for granting your requests

To you I do express my sincere heart of gratitude. Your love is overwhelming to me. What is this mercy that the Lord has come down to me so I can eat and drink with Him? What is this mercy that the Lord has chosen to fill my life with His presence? My door is open at last. Dear Lord, let your sweet fragrance fill my room. I sought Him. Now that I have found Him, whom my spirit has cherished for so long a time, I will not let Him go. I pray dear Lord that this sweet fragrance of your presence will forever remain in my room.

Is God really the source of my life, and who provides for my daily living?

A Response to Consider: Yes. It is part of being Christian to acknowledge the personal influence of God in your life.

Yes. It is part of being Christian to acknowledge God as the source of your life, and that will help you to depend strongly on Him for His provisions concerning every aspect of your life.

You are now going to talk to God concerning His personal influence in your life.

Prayer Points:

• Thank God for the gift of His personal influence in your life

• Pray, requesting that He will continue to open your eyes to see His personal influence in your life

• Pray, requesting that He will open your eyes to continue to see Him as your source of life

• Worship the Lord for granting your requests

We do not need God to command us by a moral law to tithe. For one thing, we know that God did not verbally command Abraham to tithe by a moral law. He tithed because God revealed to him His personal nature and influence in his life. By that behavior, Abraham had shown us by example that one of the relational moral things we are to do in recognition of God's personal involvement with us in the work we do for living is giving Him a tenth of the earnings. That Christian behavior is giving God the due reverential HONOR for His personal presence and influence in our lives.

RECKONING THE SPIRITUAL BENEFITS OF YOUR TITHING

Please Follow Every Line of Instruction:

The Spiritual Matter

A Question to Consider: What is my goal in tithing to God?

A Response to Consider: I am tithing with the goal of growth in my spiritual life in Christ. That I will trust God more, that I will love God more, that I will live more holy to God.

Meditation One

Take a few moments to ponder and/or meditate on the responses. Internalize and let them settle in your spirit and mental consciousness.

A Response to Consider: Yes. It is part of being Christian to trust, to love, and to be holy to God, which helps you to consider the personal presence of God in your life.

Scripture Readings

Please carefully read each of the following scriptures:

Matthew 22:37

And he said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment."

Proverbs 30:5

Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.

Nahum 1:7

The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.

1 Peter 1:14-16

As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, "You shall be holy, for I am holy."

Ephesians 1:4

According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:

A Moment of Prayer

You are now going to talk to God concerning your spiritual growth in Christ

Prayer Points:

• Thank God for the gift of spiritual growth in your life

• Pray, requesting that He will continue to grant you the inclination in seeking to trust Him

• Pray, requesting that He will continue to grant you the passion in seeking to love Him

• Pray, requesting that He will continue to grant you the desire in seeking to live in holiness to Him

• Worship the Lord for granting your requests

It is important to note that these Christian virtues of trust, holiness, and loving God actually showed in Abraham's life following his tithing by the principle of knowing and relating to God personally. Since God is at the receiving end of our spiritual growth, it is consistent to say that the spiritual benefit of our practice of Christian tithing is actually toward God. That manifests in our trusting, loving, and being holy to the Lord. When we are growing spiritually in these three areas of our lives, it signifies that we have a healthy and strong personal relationship with God.

Chapter Four

ACT 4

Day 4

TALKING TO GOD CONCERNING HIS CHURCH

Please Follow Every Line of Instruction:

The Spiritual Matter

A Question to Consider: For what purpose am I tithing?

A Response to Consider: I am tithing for the purpose of resourcing or contributing to the High Priestly Ministry of Christ for the nurturing and the maturation of the heirs of salvation on earth.

Meditation One

Take a few moments to ponder and/or meditate on the response. Internalize and let them settle in your spirit and mental consciousness.

The Importance of the Spiritual Matter

A Question to Ponder: Do I really have to be bothered with the High Priestly Ministry of Christ to the church?

A Response to Consider: Yes. It is part of being Christian to be actively involved in the nurturing and the maturation of the heirs of salvation for the glorious kingdom of God that is taking place in your local church.

Yes. Since Abraham the father of the Christian faith was made to tithe to Melchizedek, the priest of the Most High God, and that Christ's Priestly Office is after the order of Melchizedek, it is part of being Christian to tithe toward the High Priestly Ministry of Christ concerning the sanctification and consecration of the heirs of salvation on earth.

Scripture Readings

Please carefully read each of the following scriptures:

Hebrews 6:17-20

Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil; Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.

Luke 6:35

Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

Ephesians 4:8-16

But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ. Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? He that descended is the same also that ascended far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)

And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ:

That we hence forth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

Matthew 6:33

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Acts 20:35

I have shewed you all things, how that so laboring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive

Meditation Two

Take a few moments to ponder and/or meditate on the scriptures you have just read. Internalize the meaning each brings to you by the Holy Spirit, and let that meaning settle in your spirit and mental consciousness.

A Moment of Prayer

You are now going to talk to God concerning the tithing, which concerns the ministry of Christ and the church.

Prayer Points:

• Pray for your local church to be strong in love and oneness and in the power of the Holy Spirit

• Pray for the effectual ministry of your pastor and leaders of your local church

• Pray, requesting that the Lord will grant you grace to use the gift of the Holy Spirit in you for the equipping and edification of your God-given church

• Pray for the church of Christ in general and that God will add to the number those who are to be saved, nurtured, and matured in Christ

• Pray that God will continue to supply to the church, grace to be the light and salt in a world growing darker and perilous

• Pray concerning the soon coming of our Lord, Jesus Christ

• Worship the Lord for granting your requests

The progression in foreshadowing His priestly purpose in Christ shows an abiding principle of God that His dealings with His people will always require a type of Christ's priestly ministry until Christ Himself was revealed to take up His ordained appointment as the High Priest of God to the church. God had worked in Abraham to tithe to Melchizedek, His prototype priest of Christ. God had instituted tithing with the children of Israel for the Levitical Priesthood Program, His illustrative priestly service of Christ. Putting these two acts of God in perspective, would it be considered that God was also showing forth the unique type of giving that will be associated with the High Priestly Ministry of Christ to the church on earth? Hence, it can be truly said that God established the practice of Christian tithing with the church for the High Priestly Ministry of Christ.
