Boring. Read about a third of the book and stopped. Taz the dog had more personality. Was really surprised as authors other books were quite good.

romance, search-rescue, suspense, k9 Total Bravery is the 4th installment of the True Heroes Series. These books are stand alone and do not have to be read in order. This book has action, suspense, chemistry, a very serious plot and a HEA. Raul Sa, is a new recruit at Search and Protect, he is teamed up with a German Shepherd Dog (GSD)named Taz. His best friend, Arin, is the reason he has come to Hawaii and the S & P program. Raul and Taz's first day on the job starts off with a phone call from his BF's sister needing help. Seems like some bad guys in suits are chasing her and trying to kidnap her and her team. Raul is immediately attracted to her and knows that his BF will kick his butt for touching her little sister. Mali Siri, is a Professional Researcher she has come to Hawaii to do field work on Human Trafficking. This job has landed her as a target so she must hide but on this island, that's nearly impossible so she tries to get help from her sister, but sis is on a mission, so she calls her sister's BF. The muscle bound man makes her quiver with want but he also makes her feel safe. Raul and Mali start the search for her teammates but can't fight the wave of attraction between them. Things heat up, the danger gets more intense and they have to find a way to work together to save the lives of not only herself but her teammates as well. After the action is over, can he convince her to be his forever?

Piper J. Drake's return to the True Heroes series is indeed a masterful addition. Total Bravery takes readers to a beautiful Hawaiian island where Raul Sa and his trusted partner, Taz, are starting with the Search and Protect team. When Mali, a team member's little sister, comes seeking help he jumps to offer his expertise. Mali and her team have gotten themselves tangled up with dangerous people, but the Search and Protect team hardly hesitate before launching a rescue. Total Bravery takes readers on an island adventure with a steamy romance. I loved the diverse cast of characters and the camaraderie they display as they work toward a common goal. The bond between human and dog continues to impress me and Piper J. Drake does an excellent job of highlighting that bond. Taz isn't just an accessory but a character, a part of the team that provides comfort and familiarity. The brave characters of the True Heroes series stay on your mind long after you finish reading their stories, and this is especially true of Raul and Mali! *ARC provided in consideration for review*

Author Piper J. Drake continues her popular True Heroes series, with her latest offering, Total Bravery. This book delves into some stirring issues including human trafficking and readers will be on the edge of their seats throughout. Shifting from the Hope Crossing Kennel to the Search and Protect company provides a change in the atmosphere of the series and creates a lot of new opportunities for canine, human interaction. Readers who love a good romantic suspense novel with find that and more in Drake's newest title. What I liked: Lately, I've been getting into good romantic suspense books. The mix of action and romance is intriguing and easy to get taken in by. Piper J. Drake is a master at combining the two genres into a series that is both steamy and thrilling at the same time. Total Bravery is the fourth book in the True Heroes series and it gets the blood pumping in more ways than one. I enjoyed the change in the series from the Hope's Crossing Kennel to the Search and Protect agency. I feel like this will add a ton of opportunities for a different type of action and the romance is always a great addition. Raul has all the qualities that I'm liking in a hero right now. He is former military, always a sexy plus and he is good with animals. His canine partner Taz, is not just a figure head animal in the series. He contributes a great deal to the overall storyline and readers will love him almost as much as Raul. I liked that Drake made Raul sensitive to the fact that he was having some serious feelings toward his best friends sister and how that might play out. Raul was an alpha male with a strong need to protect Mali but he wasn't a brute. He shows a vulnerable side in his relationship with the heroine and in his friendship with Arin. A great character! Maybe i'm an oddity when it comes to reading but I prefer books to have some relevance and Drake certainly accomplishes that with this title. Total Bravery touches on the issue of human trafficking which is such a huge problem. The statistics are staggering and I appreciated that though this book was meant to entertain and not really center on the subject, it was still able to spread awareness. Mali's research team got a little too close to a human trafficking ring and their plight shows the ruthlessness that surrounds the issue. What I didn't like: Mali was a wonderful heroine. Raul was an amazing hero. It seemed like a perfect match between them and as a reader I was waiting with baited breath for that scene where they finally give in to those desires they feel from pretty much the start of the book. This one is definitely a slow burn and to be honest the outside forces of the suspense part of the book weren't really the issue. These two characters were getting in their own way throughout the book. It was good that Raul was conscious of Arin's feelings about her sister but that went on a bit too long for my tastes. Mali was concerned for her team and that showed her integrity and honesty as a character but man, I was ready for some romantic action long before these two were lol... Still an excellent romantic read! Bottom Line: This title has a lot to offer to a reader who likes a romance with some punch to it. Drake mixes the two genres of suspense and romance with ease. Total Bravery has action and thrills and a great romance even if it takes awhile to get there. Readers get a glimpse into a world they may not understand but need to be aware of with t

Review: TOTAL BRAVERY (True Heroes) by Piper J. Drake Publication Date: April 24, 2018 Genre: Romantic Suspense Reviewed by: Reading in Pajamas/ Donna Rated 4.5 Stars This romantic suspense was full of steady action while introducing us to a new K-9 team in Hawaii. I’m glad the team introductions and new locale didn’t bog down the story at all. They were all fun and distinct personalities that hold the door open for more fun stories to come. I liked Raul right away and his dog, Taz is great! Mali was relatable and easy to like as well. The story showcased her smart and intuitive nature while still giving her a vulnerability that worked nicely with the romance. The heat factor was pretty tame until the very end, so it would appeal to those who like their romances on the lighter side as well. Loved it. *Review copy provided Forever Romance in exchange for an honest review.

Rating 4.5/5* Great romantic suspense with a canine hero! I’ve already thoroughly enjoyed the first three books in this romantic suspense series and really looked forwarded to escaping into this one – and I wasn’t disappointed! The earlier three stories were set at Hope’s Crossing Kennel but this one ventures further afield to Hawaii. On his first day working at Search and Protect, Raul hadn’t expected to be doing anything other than cleaning kennels and working with the dogs but a call from the younger sister of his friend and co-worker changes all that. From the very start you are taken into the heart of the action. Mali calls when she and her team of researchers are in danger and never expected to connect so easily to the handsome ex-military man who comes to her rescue – or to his dog, Taz! This is just the start of an adventure which takes the trio and other members of Search and Protect all over the Hawaiian island in a fast paced investigation involving danger, daring and thwarting human trafficking. As usual with stories from this talented author, the human characters are brilliant portrayed, believable and easy to relate to. The service dogs are brilliant, too, and I really enjoy learning more about their work and skills. The settings are brought to life in the reader’s imagination as are the action packed confrontations and their search for information to enable them to attempt to rescue Mali’s kidnapped team mates. I particularly enjoy that the suspense is the main focus for much of the story. However, there are some great interpersonal relationships between Raul and Arin, Mali’s older sister and his close friend and fellow ex-military officer. The relationship between Mali and Raul is developed well, always with the hang up that Raul is worried about Arin’s reaction to everything – in case she decides to “kick his butt”! I requested and was given a copy of this novel, via NetGalley, with no obligation. This is my honest review of the book after choosing to read it.

With Total Bravery, the True Heroes series moves from Hope's Crossing to the Search and Protect Organization, based in Hawaii(!). (And who can blame them? I mean, Hawaii...) Raul, with his new partner GSD Taz, fresh from Hope's Crossing, is hoping to finally have found a team that he can really gel with. Things are going great with his canine partner, now he just has to make a good impression on the humans. He's hoping to start out ahead, since Arin, his BF from his days in the military, is also there. But then he gets a phone call meant for Arin, and things get a little dicier... Mali, Arin's sister, is in trouble and needs the Search and Protect's help. The mystery that Mali, Raul, Taz, and Arin find themselves embroiled in involves a missing university research team, a ransom demand (or is it, really???), human trafficking, and some pretty bad guys. (They're wearing dark suits on the beach in Hawaii, so you know there's something wrong with them... ;)) On top of all the dangerous suspense elements here, Raul and Mali feel a mutual attraction pretty much right away...and did I mention that Raul is besties with her older sister? And that that same older sister was a sniper in the military? So, yeah... The suspense portion of the story definitely keeps you on your toes, wondering what's behind Mali's team's disappearance. The resolution there was fairly satisfying, though I couldn't help but feel like I might have missed some of the details. (I freely admit this could have been me, though--I was reading pretty fast.) With a only a few slight speed bumps along the way, Raul seems to be fitting in well with his new teammates, and of course his relationship with Taz is one of the book's highlights. The canine/human partnerships are definitely a strong element in this series, and something I look forward to in every book. Raul and Mali have quite a bit of one step forward, two back in their relationship--for the most part, it's a pretty slow burn and every time you think they're finally getting closer something else happens to set them back again. In the end it's really the two of them more than any other character that works to keep them apart--Raul's convinced he's not "a good person" (related to his time in the military, mostly) and Mali's number one concern is her research and career--and though we do get to an HEA we don't really see them work though those conflicts to get there, which was a bit of a bummer. Still, an HEA is an HEA and I did want one for the two (okay, three--can't leave out Taz!) of them. I really liked the new characters and location introduced here and am looking forward to a lot more stories set in the Search and Protect side of the series. If you haven't read any of the True Heroes books yet this would be a fine place to start, since knowing the Hope's Crossing people and the events of the previous books isn't a prerequisite here. Just don't blame me when you need to go back and read the other books anyway... (Okay, fine. Blame me--I'm okay with that. They're great books.:)) Rating: 4 stars / B I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Piper Drake has the ability to bring readers into a fast pace adventure where they don't want it to stop even after they read the last page. Total Bravery is another win for Piper Drake. The author has well research her topic to under how animals are handled by their trainers keep the story grounded during action pack scenes. There is romance, sex with this book which doesn't add to the story but doesn't subtract either. The story is told from Raul and Mali points of view. Which gives you insight into everyone inner thought that sometimes slows down the fast pace story. Even though the book is number 4 in a series readers will not be lost. You will be pulled into a world where you are afraid if you put the book down something awful will happen to your favorite characters. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the advance copy of Piper J. Drake Total Bravery (True Heroes #4)

Total Bravery is another installment in the True Heroes world but not really a continuation of the series. Raul is starting a new job in Hawaii and has just become partners with Taz, a German Shepherd Dog that was trained at Hope’s Crossing. That’s pretty much it for the crossover with the original stories :) Well, that and the general feel of the story – sexy, smart, and bada** hero, a strong heroine in need of help, and a group of colleagues that are more than capable of helping out. Mali is my kinda heroine – smart and level-headed. When things go bad for her, she doesn’t freak out, listens to those with more experience, and does her best to stay out of the way when she needs to. She may need help but she’s definitely no damsel in distress. Raul is the kind of ex-military hero you’d expect. He’s got the training but he’s also got the heart to do what he needs to do in any given situation. It’s not always the easy thing but he tries his best to make it the best one. I feel like Piper does a pretty good job delving into a difficult situation here, addressing human trafficking. It’s an awful, heart-breaking, and so very real. Between Mali’s research and what they come across while trying to find her missing teammates, we get an idea of how easy and dangerous it can be. It’s not near as bad here as it is in real life but it gives you enough of a feel for it that your imagination can run wild. I do kinda wish we’d gotten a little bit more about why Raul doesn’t feel worthy of being with Mali. It seemed like ti would become an issue, and he flirts around the edges of his reasoning, but then he gets over it. There are a few family issues between Mali and Arin that I think need a bit more exploration but I’m hoping that there will be ample time for that in a story starring Arin. Overall, though, Drake does a good job of tying up her threads in a complete and satisfying story. (Just like the Siri sister drama I’m anticipating more with the big bad from the story showing up in future books.) A mix of intrigue, action, and smoldering romance, Total Bravery is well written, well paced, and just in general well done :) *** I voluntarily read a Review Copy of this book. All opinions stated are solely my own and no one else’s. ***

Total Bravery is the 4th book in the True Heroes series and the first book not to be directly associated with Hope’s Crossing Kennel. This story focuses on the Search and Protect Corporation, an organization that accepts contracts to deploy to high risk locations and search for people and things. Although, the main character in this book, Raul Sá, had spent time at that kennel before accepting his new position at Search and Protect. Due to his recent start, he was the low-man on the team, which didn’t bother Raul very much. He was excited about his new team and was hoping that it would be a better fit for him than his last team he was with in the military. It had to be, because this team had his best friend, Arin Siri, on it. Arin and Raul were very close, close enough that he knew when Arin’s sister Mali called, expecting to reach Arin but instead reached him, that it was a serious matter. What Raul did not expect was to find that Mali was being stalked by strange men who had previously tried to intercept her research team. Mali and her team had been in Hawaii to interview prostitutes to gather more information about the human trafficking that was taking place. They had hoped to conduct research that would expose the truths that most were too blind to see. Apparently though, Mali and her team had come under the notice of someone who wanted them out of the way in a permanent sense. When Raul found Mali the first thing that struck him was how different she was compared to her sister, the second thing he noticed was that he was incredibly attracted to her. That attraction was something that he needed to nip in the bud though because Arin would kill him if he tried anything with her little sister. Seemingly though, Mali had the same attraction as Raul because once they had gotten her to safety she decided to test her luck with him. An action that made Raul want so much more from her but he couldn’t because there was still the thought of what Arin would do to him hanging over his head. Despite their mutual attraction they could not act on their feelings because the danger to Mali jumped up several degrees when it became clear that despite attempts at kidnapping her, it was not good enough that Mali was out of the picture, someone wanted her dead for reasons unknown. It was going to take the entire Search and Protect team to keep Mali alive, find her captive research team, and to bring them to all to safety. All this while Raul was having to fight his ever-growing attraction to a woman who was supposed to be off-limits. I found Total Bravery to be a pleasant read with a nice element of smoldering romance. The dogs in this novel were a great addition to the plot. Raul’s K9 partner, Taz, added a lot of character to the overall story, loved him! The romance between Mali and Raul started off weird for me because it didn’t seem realistic that it would start off the way it did, in the situation they were in. With that said though I think it developed nicely and I loved the progression to the end where it was just marvelous! I liked the Search and Protect team and how they worked together. There were many great new characters in Total Bravery that I want to know more about and I am hoping that the True Heroes series will stay with this team for a few books at least. This review is based on a complimentary book I received from NetGalley. It is an honest and voluntary review. The complimentary receipt of it in no way affected my review or rating

well paced, intriguing, thrilling TOTAL BRAVERY is the fourth instalment in Piper J. Drake’s contemporary, adult TRUE HEROES romantic suspense series. This is US Army veteran Raul Sa, and researcher Mali Siri’s story line. TOTAL BRAVERY can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. We were first introduced to Raul in book three-ABSOLUTE TRUST. Told from dual third person perspectives (Raul and Mali) TOTAL BRAVERY follows the building relationship between US Army veteran Raul Sa, and researcher Mali Siri. Hawaii was the perfect destination for Mali and her team of researchers to look into the human trafficking problem befalling the region but our heroine never expected to be caught-up as potential victims. With her team missing, and Mali on the run, our heroine contacts her sister Arin, US Army Sniper and a member of the Search and Protect Organization mercenary group stationed on the island of Oahu. Enter Raul Sa, newest member of the group along with his canine partner Taz, and the man with whom Mali will fall in love. What ensues is the building romance between Raul and Mali, as the members of the Search and Protect group set a plan into motion to rescue Mali’s team from a potential human trafficking ring. A genius since a young age, Mali Siri has been bullied most of her life but had the benefit of her older sister’s protection throughout her earlier years into present day-a protection that also frightens our heroine in that she questions her sister’s darker side, and what it is she is truly capable of doing. Raul Sa is a bit of a loner whose first day with the Search and Protect Organization in Oahu found our hero going on a solo mission to rescue the woman with whom he would fall in love. The relationship between Raul and Mali is one of immediate attraction but Raul knows that to get involved with a client, especially his best friend and fellow US Army veteran Arin’s younger sister, could mean immediate dismissal from the group he recently joined. Mali is a bit of a fragile butterfly; to some extent naïve and sheltered from who, what, how and why of her sister’s life, that pulls at the alpha in our story line hero. The $ex scenes are limited but passionate. TOTAL BRAVERY is a bit of a departure from the first three instalments and the Hope’s Crossing K9 group, in that the story introduces a new team of Special Ops mercenaries for hire, living and working in the Hawaiian Islands. We are introduced to Mali’s sister, and Raul’s best friend Arin Siri and her K9 King; communications specialist Pua; computer specialist Kai; founder of the Search and Protect mercenary group Zu and his dog Buck; kennel master Todd Miller and his wife Kalea; police officer Kokua; and Kenny, a man with his ear to the ground about the illegal goings on in the Hawaiian Islands. TOTAL BRAVERY is a story of romance, suspense, betrayal and love. The premise is well-paced, intriguing and thrilling; the characters are colorful and energetic; the romance is captivating and sensual. TOTAL BRAVERY is an engaging and edgy story line.

Total Bravery takes us to a new crew in a new place and a new beginning for Raul and his K9 partner Taz. Like the others in this series there is action, adventure and love but this book ramps it up another notch. I love reading these books because it is obvious that the author has done her research. I love being transported to new places and cultures. A total vacation for the mind. Romantic suspense at it's very best.
