Toured to Death by Hy Conrad

“Fast-paced, entertaining, and a mystery-lover’s treat.” —John Clement, co-author of the Dixie Hemingway series

Book a ticket with this all-new mystery series featuring Amy and Fanny Abel, a spunky mother-and-daughter duo of travel agents who find their mystery tour becoming all too real…

While Fanny takes care of the business end of Amy’s Travel in New York City, Amy is traipsing around Monte Carlo, managing their first mystery-themed excursion, a road rally in which guests compete to solve a fictional murder along the way. Amy still has reservations about partnering up with her mother. But both women, having lost the men in their lives, need a fresh beginning.

The trip starts off without a hitch. Clues quickly mount, the competition is lively, and just when the suspense is peaking, the writer they hired to script their made-up mystery is found murdered in his New York apartment. Suddenly, on top of running a new venture together, mother and daughter must solve a real-life case of foul play, while trying not to drive each other bonkers. But Amy and Fanny are ready, willing, and Abel to track down a clever killer with some serious emotional baggage, one who will go to any lengths to keep dark secrets from seeing the light of day…

I don't come across many cozy mysteries that I don't like but this one was all over the place and hard to follow. A lot of the story was supposed to connect but I never did see the connection between murders and the motives were really far-fetched. I didn't feel like I got to know any of the characters and they were all a little awkward.

Amy and her mother Fanny are attempting to find a niche in the travel business. They concoct a travel tour in Europe, aimed at mystery lovers, in which members will follow clues set forth by actors in the beginning (similar to a mystery dinner affair) and then conduct the rest of the investigation on their own. This turns into a mystery within a mystery, with enough intrigue, motive and red herrings to keep me guessing until the end. All this activity seems to be just what Amy needs. She's not just shy, but listless, after the death of her fiancé two years previous. Half of the book is set back in New York, and Amy is able to demonstrate a lot of strength of character while helping find the real killer.

4 stars The setting is something that sounds cool to me a Mystery tour set in trip to Europe. The owners are mother and daughter. Fanny and Amy. Amy is leading the tour. Amy is shy and does not like limelight. Fanny is more outgoing and daring. The murder mystery they find out is based on a real case. The writer after he is paid is murdered back in New York. There is someone following the tour that works for the writer. Amy has no idea who that is. Also no one on the tour knows who the murder is on the tour. Amy gets the clues only a day ahead and instructions on where to place the clues. Tour is going good until it starts going wrong. One of the ladies on the tour is murdered. The others of the group don't believe that the person the Italy police arrested is the murder. They think the three different murder cases are related. From San Francisco 4 years ago, New York and Italy. I would read more of this series. It tied up the cases in a good way. I guessed some of it but not all of it. The mystery was good. I liked the characters. It was also clean read. I was given this ebook to read by Net Galley and Kensington Books. In return I agreed to give a honest review of Toured to Death.

Title: Toured to Death - Amy's Travel Mystery 1 Author: Hy Conrand Published: 1-27-2015 Publisher: Kensington Books Pages: 321 Genre: Mystery, Thrillers & Suspense Sub Genre: Action & Adventure; Amateur Sleuths; International Mystery; Cozy; Travel ISBN: 9781617736780 ASIN: B00M4ASPIK Reviewer: DelAnne Reviewed For: NetGalley . Amy Travel is run by mother/daughter duo Fanny who runs the business side in New York City and her daughter Amy who runs the tours and takes care of the clients while traveling. The current tour is a murder mystery that begins in Monte Carlo and continues on to Italy Little does anyone realize the writer, Otto Ingo has based his murder on a real case that took place five years earlier and that some of the clients were present then. When Ingo is murdered the tour group is vested in solving his death. At dinner in Italy a member of the group, Angie Davis, dies and a team leader is arrested. Amy arrives back in New York and sets out to find the real killer and get her released from the Italian Prison. Those who participated in the Road Rally Tour jump in to help investigate all three murders. One thing to think about one of those investigating could be the murder who has already proven they are not afraid to kill to conceal their identity and keep their secrets from coming to life. What a way to start a new series. Traveling the world and bringing the beauty of the cities to life for the reader. A story that keeps you involved from the first page to the last. There are clues throughout but there is a red herring or two. Toured to death is well written and a fun read. My rating is 4 1/2 out of 5 Stars . I recommend this book to any cozy lover such as myself. You will want to visit with Fanny and Amy. You have to save your pennies to afford all those trips you are going to want to take. Enjoy!

Dollycas’s Thoughts A traveling whodunit based on a real case, sign me up! Amy and Fanny are trying to pump some life into Amy’s Travel. Amy hires a man to write a murder mystery game for a tour she has booked to Europe. It will be more of a rally than a race. There are 6 teams of 4, each representing a character in the mystery. Each day the guests will find and follow the clues to try to be able to solve the whodunit by the time they reach the final stop. Sounds like fun but soon there are extra clues, a hotel break-in, and rocks flying. One of the guests thinks the mystery is based on a real life murder. An investigation they were part of… Then Amy learns from Fanny the author of the mystery has been killed. She hopes everything she needs to complete the tour has been sent, but when one of the group dies suspiciously, the game fades. The group realizes their is a killer among them. An arrest is made but has the killer been caught? This was a entertaining read. The guests on the tour are an eclectic bunch, from a couple with their teenage sons, a wealthy socialite and her “companion”, an uncle with his 12 year old niece, and even a judge. The story itself is broken into 2 parts. The first is the game and the time abroad, part 2 takes place after Amy and some of the guests return to the states. Amy tries to track the original case and determine if and how it relates to the new cases. It has to be the same person/s for all 3, or does it? The author throws some clever twists throughout the book and a really good one at the end. I had it narrowed down to one or two people myself, but he surprised me with the details. A quick read, a good pace, great characters, beautiful settings. This was an enjoyable excursion. I am looking forward now to Dearly Departed.
