Overview

True Magic: Mind, God, Consciousness and You is a unique exploration of what scientists call the “anomaly” of consciousness, drawing on major works in philosophy, history, science, psychology and comparative religion. The conclusion is that consciousness is central to our understanding of the universe. A key aspect of that understanding is that most of reality is unknowable to us, which leads to that incredible state of awe wonder and astonishment.
Our logical minds require an explanation, however when faced with a situation that offers absolutely no explanation, something very interesting happens. Mystery induces astonishment and awe. Astonishment is a real brain state which induces an emotional response, a fascination in awe and realisation that something is truly unknown, truly a mystery which cannot be explained. However, we have a cosmic paradox. It is in unknowing that we come to know. In essence, the human Brain is hardwired for God.
The contention of this book is that the three most important concepts which constitute reality are Soul, Mind and Consciousness. Through the magic of evolution both cosmological and biological, consciousness has arisen. “Matter” became alive and then became conscious. This is profound magic. We are the Universe becoming aware of itself and so arises the ultimate True Magic – God Consciousness – the beautiful unknowing which embraces the Mystery. This is a wondrous thing, an awesome thing, even a scary thing. But it is probably the most important thing of all.

About the Author

Ian McCoy is a master magician and mentalist, a motivational speaker and teacher, an author and a musician, singer/songwriter.
From the tender age of 10, Ian began his study of the magical arts and became a keen amateur magician growing up in Merseyside. At the same time, he began performing music semi-professionally from the age of 13. Indeed all the way through to his mid 20’s magic was his hobby – while music was his main profession.
After acquiring degrees in history and politics and postgraduate qualifications in education and theology Ian embarked on a short teaching career. However, the pull of show business proved too strong and by his late 20’s he decided to embark on a career in magic and mentalism. He also decided to try to do this in the United States. He emigrated to California and within a year had obtained his California teaching credential and was performing magic as his main source of income – while taking substitute (supply) teaching assignments to supplement this.
His magic and mentalism went from strength to strength and Ian became one – if not the most respected magic performer in the Bay Area of San Francisco and northern California. For over a decade he performed for blue-chip companies, Hollywood celebrities, major hotel chains, a cruise line and private individuals. The late Robin Williams whom Ian worked with described Ian’s performance as “world class” Ian also set up magic classes and camps teaching children of all ages throughout the Bay Area.
Ian returned to the UK about 12 years ago. He still performs magic and mentalism.
Ian is still a keen songwriter and is very proud to have two of his original compositions on a just-released charity album “I would Fight for You” – for the Great Ormand Street Hospital. This album is being sold all over the world.
