~This UTC Team Review is also posted at Under the Covers Book Blog This is the final book in the Finding Anna series, and we at last get to see whether, after the events of the previous books and now their separation if Anna and Stephen will experience their well deserved HEA. Angela and Suzanne read Trust, so we decided to twist it round a bit and interview the reader regarding their thoughts on this book: Describe this book in three words Angela: Hardships. Heartfelt. Empowering Suzanne: Heartbreaking. Uplifting. Intense What did you like about Trust? Angela: It has been a long journey for Anna and I’m happy that she finally gets her happy-ever-after. She really has grown and healed so much from when this series first started. Ms. Hayes definitely showed bits and pieces on how she gained her independence in this book. I love how the book ended. It’s a long awaited and well deserved HEA. Suzanne: Seeing how far Anna has gotten since meeting her in the first book was extremely gratifying, she seems really weak and very reliant on others, but when you think about where she has been, you realise what a strong character she is. I also liked how it ended, it was all very neatly tied up. What did you not like about Trust? Angela: From the beginning I’ve had some issues with Brianna and Stephen’s relationship. How quick it came to be, and how open they are sexually even after the Brianna’s horrible experience. I often had to step back and remember how old Stephan is and it’s not much difference to Brianna’s age. Also I had to remember what I know of the BDSM lifestyle. I needed keep an open mind to Stephen’s tactics on how to help Brianna heal. Reading this book really pushed me out of my comfort zone. Suzanne: I don’t know if this is something I disliked per se about this series/book, but Brianna and Stephen’s relationship is not something you will see in most romance books. It isn’t the BDSM aspect, it is about how dependent Brianna is on Stephen, you know that she wouldn’t be able to face the world without him, would probably ended up in a psych ward somewhere and that made me slightly uncomfortable, someone needing someone that much. What saves it becoming creepy is the love and devotion Stephen feels for her, it would be easy for him to exploit her, but you know he would never do that, that he would rather die first. What were you thoughts about this book and series lingered in your mind once you had finished it? Angela: Brianna’s experience was the one thing that always lingered in my head. I know her experience is not just of fiction but has happened to many and is very possible to still happen to anyone. I can’t even fathom how anyone can survive such an ordeal.  It really is empowering. Suzanne: Once again, I agree with Ang, Anna’s experiences were trely horrifying and difficult to read about, knowing that it probably has happened in real life and will probably happen again is terrifying and tragic. What do you think of the series over all and would you recommend it? Angela: I enjoyed this series a lot. It’s given me a chance to learn more of the BDSM world not just by Brianna and Stephen’s story but BDSM in general. I think readers who enjoy reading light BDSM books would enjoy it. However, I would warn them that there is the subject of rape but in the past tense, in case it’s a hard limit. Suzanne: I did like the series over all, it had some really slow and I hate to say it boring parts. But, it also had some intense emotion in it and the relationship between Anna and Stephen was wonderful to watch unfurl, even if it isn’t very traditional. I agree with Ang that it is light on BDSM in some aspects, you won’t find lots of sex toys and games in this book, Anna is too broken for that, but in terms of domination and submission, that aspect is very much present in this series. TRUST, by Sherri Hayes This last book of the Finding Anna series, and I am relieved that it is finally over. Completed. I am not a fan of series books. I hate unfinished stories, and most of the time the next chapter/book is months away from release. This series is a very hard read. It contains torture, extreme sexual abuse and captivity. Each book chronicles how a 17-year-old was kidnapped and taken for a slave to repay her father’s gambling debts. It takes you to many dark places and the details are explicit and shocking. The book is not for the faint of heart, and it is doubtful that you can read about Anna’s abuse and not become physically ill and angry, just imagining that a human being could treat another like that. Stephan is certainly the hero in the book, but he is also controlling, which at first makes you angry, but then you realize that he does it to help Anna cope. As the final book progresses you see that he is just as obsessed with her as she is with him. Hard to separate the love from the obsession with these two as their emotions are so intertwined. Personally, I was hoping for a HEA that included Brianna not having/wanting/needing to address her husband as “Sir,” full redemption and children, but based on the story, I don’t think those things are possible for Brianna (Anna) or Stephan for a very long time.
