About the Author

Andrew McDonald is the author of the bestselling Real Pigeons series, and the beloved junior graphic novel series Twig Friends. His books with co-creator Ben Wood are published in 26 languages worldwide and have been recognized in numerous awards including Children’s Book Council of Australia Awards, Australian Book Industry Awards, and the Readings Children’s Book Prize. Andrew is a regular presenter on the schools circuit, where he conducts writing workshops, talks about his life as an author and inspires kids to read, write, draw and be creative. He lives in Naarm/Melbourne, Australia with his partner and two young kids. 

Ben Wood is the illustrator of the bestselling Real Pigeons series, and the beloved junior graphic novel series Twig Friends. He is drawn to stories that are funny and heartfelt, and his lively illustrations reflect his love for graphic novels and animation. He has illustrated over fifty books for children, which have been published in 26 languages around the world and recognized in awards such as the Children’s Book Council of Australia Awards, Australian Book Industry Awards, and the Readings Children’s Book Prize. When not in the studio, Ben speaks in schools and runs workshops about illustration. K-Gr 2—In this new series from the creators of the "Real Pigeons" series, readers are offered the same lighthearted adventures, only this time for a younger crowd. Stump, Red, Ziggy, and Noodle are all friends that laugh and learn through their various misadventures and comical misunderstandings. Noodle loves to paint and thinks they can use the blue of the sky to color, while Ziggy and Stump enjoy exploring and amusingly mistake an ant hill for a volcano. Twig Friends offers another read-alike choice when popular series like "Pizza and Taco" or "Jelly and Narwhal" are unavailable. Illustrations are solid, and the cartoon style works well against the silly tone of the piece, while the full colors will capture any reader's attention. VERDICT A decent addition, perfect for fans of the "Pizza and Taco" series or where the "Real Pigeons" series circulates well.—Peter Blenski
