Tying the Knot (Deep Haven Series #2) by Susan May Warren

EMT Anne Lundstrom is running from her past. But it's about to catch up. She thought she'd escaped it when she moved out of the city and into the quiet town of Deep Haven. She certainly never expected to get roped into helping Noah Standing Bear run his summer camp for inner-city kids. Yet Noah has a charisma she can't ignore, and romance is in the air. But when the very danger she was trying to escape threatens her peaceful haven—and her life—Anne must find the courage to face her fears and embrace the one man who can help her understand her past.

Susan May Warren never disappoints with her contemporary fiction with a touch of suspense! Nursing intern Anne Lundstrom is a wonderful character fighting her way back emotionally after being shot by a gang member. You will love Noah Standing Bear in spite of his past and not quite being the guy you'd want your daughter to bring home! Anne wants to stay as far away from the city's poverty and gangs as possible but Noah feels God's call to make a difference to young people in the inner city. I greatly enjoyed Typing the Knot and recommend it to others.

Wow! What a great follow up to "Happily Ever After" (Book #1 of the Deep Haven series). With a new set of characters (mainly Noah Standing Bear & Anne) Susan May Warren crafted a great new story but kept a few of the characters from the previous book. This book, like the first one, was a real page turner that I could hardly put down. I am looking forward to starting book #3 (The Perfect Match) tomorrow!!

Anne is a former EMT who's now a candidate to be a nurse. She's relocated to Deep Haven, MN to escape the gang violence she experienced first hand in Minneapolis. Anne is hoping to settle down and start a new quiet life in the town. However she keeps running into Noah Standing Bear, who is trying to start up a summer camp for troubled teens from the city. The two have many disputes and arguments as they both try to struggle with their former lives from the past. Also someone is stealing drugs from the hospital and attacking nurses. Fear from those who can help enters the little town. I enjoyed returning to Deep Haven again. I wish I could visit this quiet town to go away to relax. I definitely make a stop at the bookstore for a read and cup of coffee. The characters in the town are all friendly and for the most part everyone gets along. However, at first Anne's treatment of Noah gets really annoying. She blames him for everything wrong that happens to her and there's a lot of prejudice in her accusations. I understand that because of her attack she's very wary of people and not able to trust easily. However you feel for Noah that he can't do anything right in Anne's eyes. He doesn't even have to be near her and she gets into a rage about him. She's prejudiced towards him because of what her attacker had done to her. I did like the story overall. Gang violence is a topic that is a big issue in major cities. It's sad that many teens and even children are affected by gangs. Many families are torn apart because of killings and it's almost normal to hear that a friend has been shot or hurt by a gang member. It's a good eye opener that we should help people in those situations instead of ignoring them. I also liked the use of a minority character, sadly it's still rare in Christian fiction to find a main character that is not Caucasian. This book was an interesting look into what happens when you have to fully trust God even when you're scared to.

I am Susan May Warren's #1 FAN!!! In the tourist town of Deep Haven in the second book after HAPPILY EVER AFTER - also excellent! - TYING THE KNOT brings together two unlikely protagonists and the sparks fly! Literally over the campfire and between them! I loved this sweet love story and you will too!

Last year, a wonderful new author burst on the Christian fiction scene--Susan May Warren. In Tying the Knot, Susan crafted a story that explores the hidden world of fear in Anne Lundstrom's life. Susan created well-rounded characters that the reader can identify with. Set against the scenery in far northern Minnesota, the romance between two flawed characters plays itself out. At the same time, a mystery brews in the background. I highly recommend this book.
