Upon the Midnight Clear (Dream-Hunter Series #2) by Sherrilyn Kenyon

Ever think Scrooge had it right before the ghosts ruined his life? Meet Aidan O'Conner.
At one time he was a world-renowned celebrity who gave freely of himself and his money without wanting anything in return...until those around him took without asking. Now Aidan wants nothing of the world—or anyone who's a part of it.

When a stranger appears at his doorstep, Aidan knows he's seen her before…in his dreams.
Born on Olympus as a goddess, Leta knows nothing of the human world. But a ruthless enemy has driven her from the world of dreams and into the home of the only man who can help her: Aidan. Her immortal powers are derived from human emotions—and his anger is just the fuel she needs to defend herself…

One cold winter's night will change their lives forever…
Trapped together in a brutal winter storm, Aidan and Leta must turn to the only power capable of saving them—or destroying them both: trust.

Wow, what can I say about this one? It was just..bad. I actually had to struggle to read it. In fact, I would of put it down and walked away if I wasn't so worried that events in this book would have references in future books. Maybe I have just been spoiled by all the other wonderful books Sherrilyn Kenyon has written. This was definitely not in the same quality as those. I could not get into the characters or the story line, the female lead (Leta) was just to..blah, and don't even get me started on the male lead (Adrian). As I was reading, all I could think about was how I hopped his narrative would switch to anyone else's point of view. ANYONES. Adrian came across just so annoying and aggravating. Besides the lack of interesting characters, what was up with all the pop culture references. Granted, I fully understand that the Adrian character was a huge movie star, but really. It was awkward for me to read, it felt like commercial plugs in the middle of the book, strange. The best part of this book was not even related to the story, but occurred at the end as an added on present to the fans, about the Christmas celebrations of previous stories characters. If your like me and will read every book in the series just so you don't miss out on anything, go for it, but be prepared for a disappointment. However, if you are casually picking your way here and there through the series or just interested in picking this story up randomly - save your money for one of Kenyon's other books.

I must be missing something. it is probably one of the worst books i have ever read. boring.... that's why the low rating. and it is a very short book with larger letters. i paid 7.99 on the internet for it. not good..if i had gone to the store i would not have bought it knowing it was so short and expensive. i really really do like Sherrilyn, however, this book was way off...i have read other books of hers and loved every one of them...

But it was a quick and good read. Seemed rushed and weak at times. I do like the Dream Hunter series--the first one was really good. This one left me a bit disappointed and it was over before it really started. I recommend it, but don't expect a super duper story.

NOT REALLY WHAT I THOUGHT IT WAS GOING TO BE. BEING THAT I READ DREAM CHASER FIRST, I WAS NOT AT ALL PLEASED AT THIS SHORT AND BORING STORY THAT HAS NONE OF THE DARK HUNTERS IN IT LIKE DREAM CHASER DID. THIS BOOK CAN BE SKIPPED FOR THE MOST PART. THE ONLY THING I LIKED ABOUT THE BOOK WAS THE COVER BUT OTHER THAN THAT IT WAS A WASTE OF MY TIME AND I DONT USUALLY SAY THAT ABOUT BOOKS THAT I HAVE READ BUT THIS ONE WAS A WASTE OF MY TIME I WOULD SAY MONEY TO BUT I RETURNED THE BOOK (SOMETHING I NEVER DO) THE ONLY REASON ILL BUY IT AGAIN WILL BE JUST SO I WILL HAVE THE WHOLE SERIES BEING THAT I LIKE TO HAVE THINGS IN ORDER. BUT I DONT SEE IT HAPPENING ANYTIME SOON. THIS BOOK WAS A HUGE LET DOWN. BUT I AM STILL A SK FAN AND I DONT DOUGHT HER WRITING BECAUSE OF ONE OR TWO BOOK BECAUSE AFTER WRITING AROUND 13 TO 15 BOOKS YOU ARE ENTITLED TO MAKE A FEW MISTAKES AND ONE OR TWO BAD BOOKS.........THIS ONE BEING ONE OF THEM. THE CHARACTERS HAVE NO DEVELOPMENT ALL U KNOW IS THE WOMAN IS A DREAM GODDESS OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT AND THE MAN IS THIS HOT ACTOR WHO HATES EVERYONE WITH A BROTHER WHO IS TRYIN TO KILL HIM. AND THAT BASICALLY THE STORY. NOT TO MENTION IT IS A VERY SHORT BOOK IN LARGE PRINT......EVEN WITH THAT SAUD I KNOW SK WILL WRITE BETTER BOOKS FROM HER MISTAKES AND I HAVE FAITH IN HER. LIKE I SAID YOU SHOULDNT GIVE UP ON A WRITER BECAUSE THEY WROTE ONE BAD BOOK. ITS EXTREMELY HARD TO BE AN AUTHOR LET ALONE BE A CREATOR OF AN ENTIRELY NEW SERIES AND SHE HAS TO ETABLISH HER LIMITS AND EVERYTHING ELSE....SHE IS STILL A GREAT WRITIER AND I RECOMMEND ALL HER OTHER BOOKS...ESPICALLY DEVIL MAY CAR, DANCE WITH THE DEVIL, DARK SIDE OF THE MOON, FANTASY LOVER, NIGHT EMBRACE, AND ASH'S STORY.

I have read all of Kenyons Dark Hunter books so far, and this is the only one that I didn't like at all. All Aidan did was whine through the entire book about how bad people had treated him. (Wonder how he would have felt with Zareks background.) He was so pathetic that I ended up just skipping through a lot of the book just so I could get the story and move on to something else. Sherrilyn, PLEASE don't bring this guy back for 'guest appearences' in future books! Can't wait for Acheron! And I would love for Urian to have a new story. It's time for him to have someone help him feel better. That guy's had a rough time of it, but he's not wallowing in self pity like Aidan. Jeez luise!! Get rid of this guy!

This is the first book I have read by this author and it was okay. I bought it for five dollars and I am glad I didn't pay anymore for it. Nothing really made it stand out.

I love and collect Ms. Kenyon's Dark Hunter series. I don't think I will buy the Dream Hunter series. It wasn't a book that held my interest to want to read it again. I didn't think this novel had much of a plot. It all happens too quickly. There was no mystery to the characters plights and they spent the book jumping between worlds too much to really have any substance to them. Aiden's quick change of attitude and acceptance of Leta didn't seem like something a man so bitter on life would do. It seems he would have been even more leary of Leta's motives. I would check this out of the library instead of buying it.

I love Kenyons Dark-Hunter books. I think that it is one of the best paranormal romance series there is but these Dream-Hunter novels go from bad to worse. I am sorry but this novel has no plot content. It all seems to happen in the timespan of one day. It all happens to quickly. It seems like it was meant to be a short story instead of a novel and the big print left me questioning about this. Aiden and Leta fall in love without any real reason, there is no connection there. And Aiden's suffering... i just do not get it. How can hate and jealousy of family members drive you to become a hard cold hearted recluse. You would think that Aiden would have been able to deal with it. I was just not very happy with this novel it was a waste of my money. I know it is harsh to say this but Kenyon needs to pick up the slack because I am not happy with the Dream Hunter novels and I am not the only on who thinks this. I just hope her next Dark Hunter novel is as great as all the others.

Aiden O Conner, became a famous actor, and is very talented, but was betrayed by everyone he knew, he has no friends and his brother is the worst. When his brother makes a deal with a god, to take him out, his life is in grave danger and there is only one person that can save him. Leta. Leta, knows the danger of her one enemy, and this enemy is after Aiden. A human man who has only known betrayal and injustice and pain. He doesn’t trust anyone, and lives like a “Scrooge” up in the mountains, away from civilization. Leta and Aiden become close despite how Aiden tries to keep pushing her away. This was such a fun short story, that added something different. What was most heartbreaking was Aiden and how he has been treated by everyone he knows, and his brother is just horrid. But Leta is such a wonderful heroine, kind and patient, she handles Aiden perfectly, and I love the way these two come together in the end and fight a god. Great courage and passion is written on each page, and this was a sexy and unique romantic interlude that is perfect for any time of year. It also reminds us the importance of loyalty to those we care about, and that jealousy can destroy us at times….it was an important reminder to me even, to keep close watch on my emotions and not let pride get in the way of the relationships I form. I adore how this author writes her stories, and I have found each story I read from her unique and teaches about human nature and makes us really think about what is really important in life.

I really wanted to like this book, but it was so slow. I never felt a closness to the main charaters in this book. I also felt that their was little To no charater growth.

A morality tale. 4.25stars This novella from the dream hunter portion of the Dark Hunter universe was basically a morality tale to me. It was well done and not preachy but a morality tale nonetheless. What happens when you’re consumed by or a victim of extreme jealousy. I liked it better than the other Dream Hunter installments so maybe this piece will be a turning point for them.
