More often than not, Clint Mason has his foot firmly wedged in his mouth, which tends to get him in plenty of hot water with the ladies. Although his laid back good ole’ Southern charm does not fly far with the female population of Cedar Tree, the big burly contractor hides his dark side well.
The only one Beth Franklin allows herself to rely on is Beth, and so far that has served her well. Just when her son disappears after dropping his little guy off on her doorstep, her life seems to spiral out of control. For the first time ever, fearing for his safety, the fiercely independent waitress is forced to be on the receiving end of a helping hand.
That’s not easy for her, especially since the shovel-sized hand belongs to a man whose approach has run hot and cold the last year, leaving her feeling off balance. With a steady and commanding force, he exposes her softer side, while doing everything he can to keep her and those close to her safe.

Really enjoyed this book as the characters were just a little older than me & were fun & sassy (sexy too) So many times it seems authors write about folks in their 40's as old & this author didn't. But beyond that I liked the mystery: I liked that the characters aren't perfect, nor do they have to be to find love & friendship: I liked the community of Cedar Tree; I love that you can find love again.... all in all just a fun book that makes you feel good. It is the 5th in the series but you can read it as a stand alone. I plan to go back & catch up on the other books. I was given a free copy in exchange for an honest review by netgalley.com
Mystery, intrigue, crime, danger, torture, family, friends, miscommunication, fights, charm, love…only a few words to describe what happens in this story of two 46 year olds finding romance in Cedar Tree. This is a book I would consider to be fantasy though written as contemporary romance with edge and a lot of action. The relationship of Clint and Beth is not smooth sailing from the get-go but they do move forward quickly once they decide to move in a romantic direction. Having Beth’s grandson to care for suddenly adds an interesting twist to the story. Add in some criminals and the FBI and the people from Cedar Tree and you end up with a lot happening and at times I wanted to know more while at other times I wanted to know a bit less. Overall it was well written, entertaining and worth reading. I can’t say that I would have fallen for Clint and have never been like Beth BUT it would be nice to have the close-knit community filled with friends that they both seem to have in Cedar Tree and I am happy they found one another. Thank you to NetGalley and the author for the copy of this book to read and review. 3.5 Stars
