Paolo, a young farmer boy in Italy learns that he has been chosen to inherit the spiritual gifts of the 'Deva of the mountain' from his grandfather. The Deva is able to commune with nature, to enhance plant growth, to see into the aura that surrounds all living things including people, and sometimes even see glimpses of the future. Later as he becomes a young man, Paolo attempts to save a young girl but ends up killing the local Don's son. A price is put on Paolo's head and he flees the country and heads to America in fear for his life.Once in America, Paolo settles in Jersey city and attempts to find work amidst thousands of other immigrants who are also seeking work. But just at financial breaking point, he saves a man called Augie from an assault and helps to heal him, in return Augie finds him work and offers friendship. Then Paolo on a dark night is led by the Deva to the woman of his dreams, a young Italian woman called Maria, and once again he helps a stranger. But Paolo struggles with both of them about revealing who he really is, out of fear that the Don may come looking for him in America. Paolo courts Maria and supports her during protests against the owners of the terrible sweatshops and the horrible working conditions. But as things quickly go from bliss to disaster, it becomes clear that Paolo cannot escape his past, will he go to conquer the difficulties around him by living his destiny, or will he fail? Then Paolo forsees a fire at the Triangle Waist Company and he rushes to help a friend, unaware that his heroic actions will be broadcast to the world bringing with it danger, love and fate.'Vengeance is Sacred' is a well-written historical fiction with very interesting characters, dialogue and vibrant settings. The author has captured the beauty of the Italian countryside, as well as the real struggles that immigrants faced in America in the early 20th century. Historic references include locations such as the infamous Ellis island and events such as the Triangle West Compnay fire. Paolo the central character is very likeable, struggling to find his own way in life, whilst always considering the burden of ensuring the safety of the Deva for the future generations. Peter has written a well-rounded novel full of mystery and suspense, a truly fantastic read.

Vengeance is not only Sacred but Sweet Mr. Peter Healy has written for us a book with 364 pages that speak of love and passion, with crime from the early 1900’s to include mafia, a touch of the paranormal and a story fictionalized from true historical events. Paolo, the main character is from Southern Italy where his family was reared and he too lived his life possessing a magic power known as Deva. Trouble found it’s way into his seemingly innocent life due to Paolo’s love and violence over his sweet love of an Italian woman which resulted in an unhealthy contact with mafia that eventually forced him to flee the country to L’America where he resided in Jersey City. It was there that Paolo was taken by the hand and taught a trade in welding and found a new life for himself.   Again, Paolo found a woman he feel in love with that gets him once again into trouble but this time it faces him directly.  While being hailed a hero, the Italian family learns of his whereabouts that turn his life into chaos where his new girlfriend Maria, comes to his aid. Mr. Healy has given us a seat of the pants fictional story based on many true facts presented in a fashion that keep you wanting more. As  stated in other reviews, his mix of genres was unique and very well done.  This is one book you won’t want to put down but read to the finish with the desire to see what else this author will write for your pleasure.  It’s difficult to write a book that holds one’s attention with todays distractions but this book does that and much more while your mind races to think of how it may end but secretly hoping love prevails. Mr. Healy says in his own words, “I have tried to tell an original, entertaining, and informative story, which touches upon the beautiful uncertainties of the human experience” which is a job he has certainly attained in all the right combinations to give us intrigue holding our interest to the end.  Without giving you the story, we especially enjoyed the drama of the fire leaving us almost panting as we read to find the outcome. Thank you Mr. Healy for a great read and both my husband and I look forward to reading more from you in the future. Both mu husband and I read this book together and loved every page! In his intriguing book, Vengeance is Sacred, set in the early 1900’s, author Peter Healy tells the story of Paolo, a young Italian farmer, who finds himself to be both blessed and cursed at the same time when it is revealed that he has inherited the mystical powers that have been passed through his family for generations.  After trouble in Italy leaves him and his family in danger, he heads to America on his own to start over.  Paolo encounters the struggles that faced many immigrants of that time, but ultimately, he befriends Augie, who helps him find a job and the beautiful Maria who steals his heart.  Meanwhile, in addition to the strife of the garment workers strike and the dangerous working conditions of the time, his worries about the questionable business practices of Augie, and his need to reveal his past cause his relationship with Maria to be threatened.  He must rely on his powers to help save himself his relationship and others from the turmoil and danger that threatens.   This book has a mix of historical fiction, romance, paranormal and action.  Overall, I felt Mr. Healy did a good job of transitioning between these genres.   It is clear that he thoroughly researched the historical events of the time including the garment workers strike and the ensuing Triangle Factory fire in New York City.  Because this story piqued my interest in these events, I wanted learn more.  I found that the author even went so far as to include actual historical figures as characters in this book.   I enjoyed the overall plot, but I feel the lengthy descriptions of the paranormal portions of the story tended to slow the development of the story line.  I also struggled to associate the dialogue I was reading with the time period in which the story takes place.  The characters did not speak in a manner that matched what I would imagine early 1900’s immigrants to sound like when speaking. Despite these concerns, Mr. Healy has presented an action packed, historical story that touches both the heart and mind.

Destiny and Fate, or is another force at work leading Paolo to America to preserve “The Deva?” “Vengeance is Sacred” is a brilliant blend of genres that a variety of readers can enjoy. Paolo’s story begins with young Paolo in Italy who inherits the special abilities that has sustained his farming family for generations. As he develops these abilities, a twist of fate finds this old world farmer rushing to America alone, on a full steamship carrying other immigrants to the New World in the early 1900’s, finally to settle in Jersey City. The excitement builds as the historical drama unfolds and Paolo finds love, opportunity, pain, heroism, and finally peace, the whole time fostering the power of “The Deva.”  Peter Healy includes fantastic description throughout the whole book and builds powerful emotion that every reader experiences. I walked off the ship with hundreds of immigrants, full of hope, full of fear. I stood with the picketers striking against unfair treatment of garment workers and my tears swelled when I read about the atrocities the shtarkes brought to the women fighting for their rights of fair pay and safe work environments. My appreciation grew knowing what these historical women did so I can be the woman I am today. I ran through the infamous Triangle Waist Company fire, feeling Paolo’s courage and determination. I felt innocent love blossom between two young immigrants and the pain felt when that love was tested, then slowly rebuilt. Givee yourself time to read “Vengeance is Sacred” because once you start, you won’t be able to stop until the end. You’ll lose yourself in every aspect of this historical, romantic, exciting drama.  It’s definitely an addicting tale that not only includes romance, paranormal, and action, but also offers an accurate, historical depiction of the struggles and triumphs of immigrants in Jersey City and New York City that cultivated our freedom and helped build the America we know today.

Vengeance is Sacred By Peter Healy Paola, the 'Mountain deva" of southern Italy's garden farms, leaves his homeland and escapes to L'America, as the Camorra crime syndicate searches for him with a murderous vendetta. Paolo is introduced to the hatred and bias toward the Italians and Irish, and finds the Crime syndicates in New York and New Jersey to be as murderous as that of Italy. Maria works 50 hour weeks in the sweat shops of New Jersey. Upon hearing of the International Ladies' Garment Workers Union in New York, she becomes an active member. Paolo and Maria meet at the first ILGWU strike when she and thousands of others are beaten by "shtarkes" while the police look the other way. Paolo feels their two souls merge and they are soon planning marriage--but when Paolo tells her of his past, she is horrified, frightened for her family and turns away from Paolo. Trouble sneaks up on both the characters and readers. Can revenge reach across the ocean to rob Paolo's dream of finding love and becoming an American farmer? Will his Deva protect him from future danger? This engrossing novel is a wonderfully told story of the struggles to find the American dream. It's truly a book with passion and heart, one that kept this reviewer reading until the wee hours of dawn. Author Peter Healy's story offers Americana, love, paranormal, and fast-paced action, but most of all, addresses the question--is vengeance sacred? This novel is a real page turner. I became so involved in the narrative, I couldn't put it down. The story and the characters blend perfectly with the historical background. This is a unique story about one man's struggle to cope with his own special power and the new world he has entered. He is an everday hero we can all relate to. All in all, a great read by a talented new author!
