Magic had been lost to the annals of fairytales since the Old Kingdom had collapsed centuries before. By mere willpower, Ardänia continued to survive throughout time, all the while an ancient evil grew powerful in the east. In the depths of the Fauxverite Woods, a young Ardänian named Meyral discovers a staff that may change the fate of his kingdom forever-if he can survive the night. The Nordcross Empire's troops are fast approaching, and Meyral's only hope is to reach the Northern Federation to find Taryn, someone who his father believes will be able to teach Meyral to use the Staff of Ardänia. Along the way he recruits his old friends, the cold and logical Maxine and her large, obnoxious brother, Alberto. As they travel north, Meyral struggles with the secrets surrounding the staff, an artifact whose immense power is as dangerous as it is mysterious.Together the trio will find trials more difficult than they ever imagined-war, death, and even love-and eventually come face to face with Sera, a sinister woman behind the armies of Nordcross with an agenda of her own. With no more than their own manpower and a little luck, the three heroes fight for their kingdom, their people, and their lives.

This book is everything that I have been waiting for in a fantasy novel for the young adult age group. Vermillion Skies makes Twilight look like absolute garbage, not that it needed much help to begin with. Can't imagine why anyone would give less than a 4 for this book, that person must have been disappointed that it wasn't a coloring book.

I first read this book online. It is very well written and completely captured my attention throughout. I attended the book signing and bought the paperback because I liked it so well. It's a great read! Try it; you'll like it!

The book was written in great detail. I could actually see the characters coming to life. I can't wait to read the next book. He is the next Stephen King!

Was shit. I seriously read the first three pages before I had to remind myself that I wasn't grading a 3rd grader's English homework. The plot was fervently clichéd and the text was incredibly rushed. The author made up for his incompetence in creativity by implenting big words. In fact, the book was so bad, that I threw up food that I had digested months prior to reading the novel. I am currently making an appointment with my doctor to check for signs of heart failure and possible life-threatening STDs. My cat, however, was not so lucky... I'm still removing parts of his combusted corpse from various crannies of my apartment complex. RIP Skimpy. Really, in this case, the movie would save the book.
