The Vishnu Sahasranamam is a prayer that appears in the Mahabharata. In the story, Bheeshma recited the prayer to the Pandavas as a parting message during the Kurukshetra war. According to some, Sri Krishna requested Bheeshma to reveal the prayer to the Pandavas. Sage Vyasa is the author of the Vishnu Sahasranamam, which is part of the Mahabharata.
