A killer is hiding in plain sight…

The last thing Homicide Detective Josiah Troyer wants is to return to Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and his Amish roots. But a madman is killing young girls and Josiah's expertise with the tight-knit community is very much needed by the FBI. Unfortunately, going home means dealing with his past and the woman he left behind.

Hannah is desperately trying to rebuild her life after the death of her Amish husband, and now, the murder of her sister. Protecting her young son from the violence is her only goal––and then she runs into the last man she expected to see, her ex Josiah. He left her eight years ago to work with the Englishers and forgiving him hasn't been easy.

But the killer has Hannah in his crosshairs, and she and Josiah will have to work together if she's going to survive.

Vow of Silence kept my interest from the first page of the prologue to the last page of the epilogue. I was fully engaged in the story but I would have liked the epilogue to be a little longer to give me the closure I wanted. Vow of Silence is a murder mystery where young Amish women are being killed. Is there a serial killer performing the crimes? Is it someone they know or an outsider or Englisher? Will there be another murder or can Detective Joe/Josiah Troyer, put a stop to the murderer or murderers before someone else gets killed? Joe is from the rural area and he's the Deacon's son who left and never looked back. He gave up his Amish ways and now he's needed to work a case. He's a detective recruited by the FBI to work with them. He's based in Minneapolis but has to work in the Lancaster area where he grew up. He's been shunned so the Amish don't want to talk to him. In steps his first love, Hannah, who he left behind and broke her heart eight years ago. But she's willing to help him and put her feelings aside since one of the girls murdered was her younger sister. There is a depth to the characters as the story twists and turns giving us clues but some of the clues seem to just muddy the waters. I liked that it wasn't clear from the beginning who dunnit. There's a darkness that pervades the story and I had to step away a few times just to clear my head. I liked Dexter, Joe's police dog partner, and Hannah's son, Eli. As clues are collected by Joe he's helped with research and cutting through some of the red tape by his FBI contact, Sam, who is working in the same office. His nickname for her is Tink - short for Tinkerbell. He's called Oz by some of those on the local police force. But through it all we see how painstaking it is to put together the case. When the crimes take a personal twist for Joe, there's no stopping him to get the murderer. While the case is solved there are still some unresolved issues that weren't addressed concerning Joe's family. There is a happily ever after in the offing though. Ms. Price is a new to me author. I may give some of her other books a try.

This is the first book I have ever read from this author, due to this I am not familiar with this authors writings or other books. I did assume because this was an amish book this was a christian book, so that being said that was my fault for assuming, so this is my review for this book. This is NOT a Christian book. It’s starts off very sick and twisted. There is a lot of cursing through out. There is a lot of sex, so if you are looking for a good wholesome story this is not for you. That being said this story will have you guessing throughout the author keeps taking you down “rabbit” holes making you think one thing only to throw another in there and have you thinking another way. She literally has you guessing until almost the end. My heart broke for Eli and the loss he faced and the struggles he faced at such a young age, but I loved how Hannah and Joe had away of making him feel loved and wanted not with words but with actions in times when he was scared. Without giving anything away, Mills is a big part in the story but I seriously felt like I wanted to find him in real life and punch him he was so annoying. This book definitely has a ton suspense and leaves you on the edge of your seat if that’s what you are looking for, then this book won’t disappoint you there. I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley. I was under no obligation to post a review and have given my honest opinion

A gripping suspense novel, with equal measures of romance, passion and the mystery of unsolved murders of young Amish girls. Joe Traynor returns to his roots that he left several years prior, before becoming a successful homicide detective. Now he returns to investigate the murders and face an emotional reunion with Hannah, the Amish girl he hoped to marry in his previous life. You will become immersed in the twisted tangle of suspense, as the girls keep disappearing, and Joe struggles to find the killer. Melynda Price is a talented writer that develops interesting characters and scenarios, as she takes the reader on a journey of intrigue and suspense. My thanks to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for the ARC and the opportunity to review this entertaining novel.

A great second-chance romance with lots of suspense and plenty of heat! I was surprised by the twists and turns of the story and hooked from the first page. This book will pull you into the characters, who you'll love, and into the mind of a killer, who you'll love to hate. This is not a vanilla read, but is so, so good! (I was given and ARC by Netgalley for an honest review)

Homicide Detective Josiah (Joe) Troyer, former Amish, is asked to return to his home town to investigate the serial killings of young Amish girls. Joe is now a homicide detective in Minnesota, having left his home and the woman he loved in Lancaster, Pennsylvania eight years ago. He was in love with Hannah Belier, but she was promised to another. Her younger sister, Cassie, has become the latest victim of the sadistic killer. When Joe and his K9 partner, Dexter, arrive, he knows this will be an uphill battle as he has been “shunned” by the Amish…they will not want to talk to him. Hannah is now a widow with a young son and wants to help Joe find the man who killed her sister. As secrets are revealed and there is a break in the case, will Joe be able to find the killer before he can strike again? Joe has one attitude about finding the killer, help him or get out of his way. Joe eventually suspects that the killer may be closer than they realize. Is he Amish or is he one of the individuals working the case? Is there any chance for Joe and Hannah to recapture their love? I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)

I’ve been a fan of Melynda Price’s novels from the start, and have found them all to be incredibly good. Her characters always have depth to them, which engages the reader from the start. I’ve finished each book anxiously awaiting her next one to come out. So I was super excited to read Vow of Silence as an ARC from Net Galley. This story is one of the very best I’ve read (noting that Price has yet to disappoint me with any of her stories.) This book is a well-written “who done it” that keeps you guessing right up to the end, wrapped up with an underlying love story that builds to a steamy romance that makes a reader’s heart soar. Homicide Detective Joe (Josiah) Troyer returns to his Amish community to find a serial killer, but that is not the only thing he’ll be facing. I loved the scene where he and his lost love Hannah Beiler see each other for the first time in eight years. Eight years that have hardened Josiah from the farm boy she knew to the sexy, big city detective he has become. But the attraction is still there, and very real. It builds throughout the story, intertwined with the hunt to stop a killer that comes to an end in a climax you don’t see coming. This book is an excellent read at every level.

Vow of Silence is a suspenseful second-chance romance. This book is about Homicide Detective Josiah (Joe) and his first and only love Hannah. Joe has Amish roots but left the community eight years ago, which also resulted in breaking Hannah's heart. He is now back because there is a serial killer hunting and murdering young Amish girls, and Joe is put on the case because he is familiar with the community. I think the author did a great job in making me understand and feel the love between the two main characters. The short flashbacks were a great addition to the story, and helped me in understanding the dynamic of their relationship. I also loved that the POV of the serial killer was included, it increased the suspense, and helped me in my quest in figuring out who he was. Which wasn't easy by the way, and I changed my mind a couple of times. There were many suspicious people in this book. Overall I think Vow of Silence was a great romantic suspense/second-chance romance. It was easy to read and unpredictable, and the characters were very likable. The story had a great flow, and towards the end it really hooked me, and I couldn't put it down. I loved seeing Joe and Hannah grow closer again, and there was a very strong attraction between them. The sex scenes were hot and I enjoyed seeing Hannah explore her newly found sexuality. Joe made her feel safe enough to try new things and be free. I really wish this book was part of a series, because I don't want to say goodbye to these characters.

I saw that this was an Amish story, and that intrigued me, but be aware this is not a Christian story, this one would get an “R” rating. This story is written similar to another author that has several books in the nature, and they also are not warm cuddly reads. This one is the killing of young Amish girls experiencing their running around time, and end up being tortured and killed. Keep reading there are surprises and bombshells here, I just had to fast forward in some parts! I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Entangled, and was not required to give a positive review.

Vow of Silence Melynda Price Vow of Silence is a romantic mystery from author, Melynda Price. Detective Josiah “Joe” Troyer was raised Amish but was shunned by the community when he left to live in English “non-Amish” society. He’s forced into heading the investigation of the murders of three Amish teen girls. Hannah Adams is the sister of the third victim, Cassandra Belier, and Joe’s former girlfriend. Because Joe left Hannah with seemingly no reason, the tension is very high between them. They try to ignore it, because Joe needs her help communicating with the families of the murdered girls. The Amish are not allowed to interact with Josiah “Joe” because of his shunning, which makes it difficult for him to fully investigate the murders. Joe and Hannah are battling the danger posed by a killer along with the danger posed by their desires. Vow of Silence is a true mystery. The plot twists are surprising. The characterization is excellent. Price’s writing style is fresh, and the dialogue draws you in and holds your attention. This novel is engaging and enjoyable. I give it 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it to all fans of the mystery genre. Be aware that there is explicit language and sexual content that might be offensive to some readers. My thanks to Entangled Publishing, LLC for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book. However, the opinions expressed in this review are 100% mine and mine alone.

Emma is around 17 years old, and her boyfriend joe is around 18 when Joe sought permission from Emma's father for her hand in marriage. Her father denied him, and Joe broke up with her, and he became English, because he didn't want her to be shunned by refusing to marry the man her father chose for her. Eight years later, Joe is a detective, and the FBI calls him in on a murder case to Lancaster. He's vital to the investigation, because he knows the people in the area. The Amish aren't cooperating with both the local police and FBI. The murders are teenage Amish girls, and they need someone the Amish will trust and open up to. Emma is now a widow with a 5 year old. You'll have to read the book to see how it all turns out. I read this book in one sitting. I was constantly trying to guess who the murderer was, and whether Emma and Joe would rekindle their relationship. I will definitely keep this author on my radar. I can't wait for more Amish mysteries.
