This is the first book in a new series by Kerry Adrienne. Griff is a bear shifter, has no desire to find his fated mate ever, and is worried about the encroaching mountain lion clan. Amy, who has recently lost her job and left her abusive ex, has come to Deep Creek to rejuvenate her life by focusing on her art. The attraction between the two is there from there start but neither is interested in pursuing a relationship at this time. Unfortunately, Griff's instincts won't keep him from making sure Amy remains safe, something that is made more difficult by his inability to tell her just why the woods are unsafe. But when his enemy stalks Amy, time starts to run out. As a first book in a new series, Ms. Adrienne works hard to establish the set up. Essentially, the mountain lions and the bears do not get along. The mountain lions have started to encroach on the bears' lands. Ms. Adrienne introduces a number of characters who will presumably have their own books down the line. Perhaps the best part of the book is build up to Amy and Griff's relationship. Despite being fated mates, they don't just jump into a relationship with each other - there is a nice slow build, helped in part by Griff's reluctance to have a fated mate. Overall, this is a quick read that sets up an interesting world and if the villains are a little meh that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

I really enjoyed the start too this series. I felt bad for Evers, too have that much rage and never believing the truth was sad. I thought it could of used one more chapter so we saw what happened when Elijah found out and the lions. I am excited to read more.

As a whole, Waking the Bear was a bit flat for me. Amy as a character got on my nerves. She was a bit of a flirt and a tease, but then when Griff or any other male reciprocated the flirting she inverted into herself and became a blushing virgin. She blames her issues on her previous relationship and her work for reasons she's not happy in her life and why she set out to pursue her art in the mountains. When I first started reading the book I felt a bit thrown into the story right away without getting much about what previously happened. It would've been nice if the author might have given us a prologue that gave us a bit of history about why the land the bears claim is so important to the lions and bears as well as why they no longer rule the area together like they apparently used to. There's also the fact that there's so many rules that the clans/prides have to follow. I wish we would've gotten to know more about why it wasn't appropriate for Griff to kill another male for harming his mate.

Amy is taking a vacation to kinda relax and find herself and work on herself after a bad breakup and job loss. She's in a cabin in a secluded area and wants to start fresh. Once she meets her landlord well she cant take her eyes off him. Sure she's uber attracted to him but she's wary and doesnt want to start anything. beyond friendship. Thats not what she's there for but its not easy. Griff is a bear shifter and he instantly recognizes Amy as his mate but he'll not put her in danger because trouble is coming his way. He'll not claim her and tries to avoid things. Well that doesnt work so well for either of them. Can he keep her safe and have his mate by his side? This was an ok read. I think some parts could have been fleshed out a little more. The plot for instance was about revenge but I think the author could have spent a little more time on the story line instead of focusing so much on Griff and Amy. Not that they weren't important and it was a nice change and not so in your face like some can be. I just really wanted more background on what happened and this isnt a HEA but HFN. So, there is a continuation into the next book I assume. Its not all tied up. This is a solid 3 1/2 for me but I'll rate 4.

A sexy shifter romance. It was a thrilling read but I was a bit disappointed with how it played out. It was pretty predictable and the dialogue felt awkward at times for me. So for me it was an overall 3.5 stars.

I love Amy and Griff's story. Lots of danger, suspense, revelation, and love in a remote forest inhabited by more than one species of shifter and humans. A great story. I'm hoping to find more of Amy and Griff's lives in a next book.

I thought this was a cute read with some likable characters and some that still need to grow up. Some things they say or happens just does not work for me. Being a park ranger how can you do your job and still hibernate? I really didn’t care much for the cave of mystical powers that is just me and really doesn’t have anything to do with the story or plot. It is a story about revenge getting even not about what really happened and finding the truth. there is danger, romance, learning and starting over. I liked Griff he is a bear shifter and meets everything I think one should be strong, deadly, caring, and he has lots of emotions. Amy is the true winner here for my affection she is strong and has been through a lot. Deciding to take some time off to get her life back on track she isn’t interested in another relationship. There is no doubt the attraction between these two is strong from the start but with danger near Griff isn’t sure he is ready to move on that just yet. Yes she is his mate and yes there are things she needs to learn but right now isn’t a good time. I really like how the author builds up their relationship slow and easy. How shy and very cute they are, I loved how Griff gives her space being a true gentleman and pacing his self. I have no trouble buying into their relationship or even how he tells her the woods are dangerous and not to go alone. Of course being a strong woman she doesn’t listen, I most likely would not have even. Of course all woods are dangerous but that hasn’t stopped me yet. I do think Griff could have some up with something a little more meaningful to make her understand the danger but than there wouldn’t have been a kidnapping. Just not sure this worked for me. Bottom line I love the characters for the most part, the chemistry was great, the plot was good, I just have a few little issues but I did enjoy the read and would try this author again.

The only thing that Griff thinks about is protecting his clan. That is until he meets Amy, his mate. It's unfortunate timing with a war brewing. Now he has to decide whether to risk love or sacrifice it. Great story. Wonderful series. Couldn't put it down.

I am a huge fan of the Bear when it comes to shifters. Just call me Goldilocks, because bear shifters are Just Right! So whenever I see a bear book, I tend to not bother looking twice and just throw caution to the winds. This doesn't always work out the way I hope though. Such was the case for this book. I wanted to really like this book. I mean, hello, there is a picture of a bear and the words Shifter Wars right on the front cover. Unfortunately, this one just didn't do it for me. I mean, it was all right. But I had some issues. First off, our girl, Amy started out a bit spunky. Starting over after her loser boyfriend stole her ad campaign and her promotion, she is planning on focusing on her 'art'. But it takes her weeks to unpack and get in the groove, and very little is said about her actual painting, other than the fact that it's "good". Pfft. Weak. I really would have liked to seen her art more developed, it might have given her more personality, especially since it's what she is supposed to be so passionate about. Then there are the Bears. They are protecting the area and this sacred cave from the "lions". Yeah, not the big haired african kind apparently, more like the bobcat/cougar/mountain lion type. I was bummed about that. Plus all we really hear is that the Lions are bad, and the Bears are good. Why the hell can't they share? Don't know. Even the sacred spirit in the cave is meant for both of them. Sure, sure, the bad guy happened to be a lion, but I really didn't see why there was this whole big war going on. The rest of the lions didn't seem all that bad to me. I needed some real reasons besides, 'because'. I guess the whole war thing felt a bit contrived and not very well thought out to me. Maybe that will change in the coming books. Eh, I don't know, but I probably won't read another in this series. This book got a 2 star ranking. It was okay, but nothing special. Carina Press and Netgalley provided me with this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

Falling in love during a war is risky. Falling in love with a human can be fatal. Griff is a big ol hunky bear shifter who is determined not to commit to anything until this ware with the mountain lions is resolved. Fate throws him a hand grenade in the form of a human girl trying to figure out where she wants her life to go. Amy has just gotten out of a bad relationship and a stifling job, men are not on her radar not even the hunky park ranger who keeps invading her dreams. If you like your shifter romance a little angsty, a little steamy and a whole lot of fun check out Waking the Bear. Complimentary copy provided by author/publisher for an honest review.

One of my favorite genres is paranormal shifter books. This book combines bear and lion shifters who are trying to show their dominance and get revenge for wrongs they feel the other has done to them in the past. Unfortunately Amy just happens to get in the way as she works on getting her life in order. The author does a fine job of presenting Amy as a woman who had some rough times but is taking her life back. She is strong without being angry and revengeful yet she still allows her soft side to show. With Griff, he is just a teddy bear that can do some serious damage if made angry. Persistent and unwilling to settle after some much needed considerations, he starts to take care of past issues so he can have a future. This book is about letting revenge eat you up so all that is left is anger and hate. But it is also about letting go, making amends, and love. I give this 3-1/2 STARS because I felt that the story needed a little more refining. A copy was gifted via Netgalley

Title: Waking the Bear Author: Kerry Adrienne Genre: Paranormal Romance Format: Ebook Pages: 212 Rating: 4 Heat: 4 Thoughts: This was a good story although the ending seemed a bit rushed. I really enjoyed reading it but it didn't grab me, if I put it down I wasn't anxious to pick it back up again. Not sure why. I liked the characters and the descriptions, I would love to live in Deep Creek. It sounded so beautiful. Other than Amy, Griff, and Evers there weren't really any other characters. There were some other bears and lions that were named but we really didn't get to know any of them. There were names but no depth, not even how they were friends other than being part of the pack/pride/whatever. Hopefully we get more in the rest of the series and not just the main characters in each book. Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this work in exchange for an honest review.

I received this free copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. The Shifter Wars series is off to a great start. Park ranger Griff needs a woman but is not committing to anyone. Amy Francis needs a break from men and starts by renting a cabin in the woods which is just the getaway she needs. This book is hard to put down once you start and thoroughly enjoyed reading it...and I cannot wait to see where this series takes us and whose story will be next.

I received this free copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. You know you have a winner on your hands when you can't seem to put that special book down. The Shifter Wars series is going to be just that with these sexy bear shifters. Park ranger Griff Martin is uber hot and totally worth losing sleep over to read his story. Amy Francis needs a break from men and the real world, so renting a cabin in the woods is just the getaway she welcomes. Hold on to your seats and grab your favorite cold drink because these woods are far from peaceful and you just might encounter some lions as well. Engaging and creative from start to finish, and I cannot wait to see where this series takes us and whose story will be next. Bring it!
