Overview

“A richly painted and fun foray into the regency era with a bright and intelligent heroine.” ~Reader Review

With her parents murdered and her inheritance stolen, all Penny Shoemaker has is her position at A Lady’s Favor dress shop designing handcrafted shoes for brides. But it’s not enough to support herself and her younger brother. Her only chance to regain what is rightfully hers lies in the strange but brilliant Samuel Morrison.

A dispossessed younger son, Samuel Morrison has a weakness for damsels in distress. So when Penny’s predicament literally lands at his feet, he turns his keen detective skills to her problem. As Penny’s predicament fills his time—she also begins filling his heart.

But can he regain Penny’s stolen inheritance, win her heart, and create a life not only for himself and Penny but for her younger brother, too, without running afoul of those who murdered her parents?

The answer may be just one favor away...

“A charmingly seductive tale.” ~Courtney Milan, New York Times bestselling author.

About the Author

Jade Lee, a USA Today bestseller, has two passions (well, except for her family, but that's a given). She loves dreaming up stories and playing racquetball, not always in that order. When her pro-racquetball career ended with a pair of very bad knees, she turned her attention to writing. An author of more than 30 romance novels, she's decided that life can be full of joy without ever getting up from her chair.

Jade Lee has become one of my must read authors. Samuel is so befuddled but brilliant, and Penny is just a brilliant but very much in the here and now. They come to understand each other as they search for the killers of Penny's parents. I loved these two characters and really enjoyed reading their story and seeing how they come together.

Samuel & Penny are equally very smart, challenge one another, bold and determined to solve the mysteries of their dire situations. I think they make a great team. Despite and partly because of the usual snobs, this is emotionally engaging, at times intense and very heartwarming. Enjoyed it from beginning to end. I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily review this book. This is my honest review.

One of things that I enjoyed about Jade Lee’s book, “Wedded in Sin” is that the characters were NOT your Regency stereotypes of rich duke/earl/lord and simpering miss at her first season. Her characters, Samuel Morrison (2nd son of a baron) and Penny Shoemaker (merchant class) are about as blue-collar romance as I’ve found among the regency ton.  Jade Lee described her hero, Samuel, like Sherlock Holmes (á la Benedict Cumberbatch) and that sealed the deal for me to buy the book. Yes, Samuel is a genius at observation, but bored with life. When he sees a woman getting evicted from her home, he rushes in to solve her several mysteries. He assures himself, he won’t be bored until he can figure out her puzzle and ‘figure out’ Penny. Why should Penny trust this absolute stranger? Sure, he’s on her side, but how long will he be there until he gets bored again? Penny’s motivation to find her parent’s murderers and getting her home back push the plot forward, but I could never find what was motivating Samuel.  While the romance is (and should be) the focus of the book, I often felt that the mysteries could have been integrated and woven in the romance. Towards the end of the book, it seemed (to me) that the mystery was negated for a personal tragedy for Samuel. I guess Samuel’s disappearance was to show Penny’s growth as a character (she distrust men and has anger issues in the beginning). Another character saves Penny from certain death and another character (Damon) restores her property to her. How was Samuel the hero if other characters are doing his work for him while he’s off camera tending to his personal financial problems? Would a hero leave his heroine, when she needed him most, to make sure he has enough fortune to marry her?  Ms. Lee’s writing is brilliant and her descriptions divine, but there were just a few plot/character arcs that were unexpected to me (which isn’t bad – I like to be surprised, but not when the hero doesn’t seem emotionally invested in the romance as the heroine).
