As usual, Wendy Johnson has again written a book that leaves no guesswork for the knitter. The technical section of the book is extremely well written with clear drawings, and covers every aspect of general lace knitting. Indeed a lace knitter would have to travel far into the reaches of advanced lace knitting to move beyond the reach of the excellent technical section. The book is worth the price simply for this resource. The patterns are also interesting, and run the gamut from patterns that will keep a new lace knitter happily engaged through several projects. There are a few projects that will interest a more advanced lace knitter, including a gorgeous lace cardigan that I will add to my queue for a summer sweater. I particularly enjoy projects for Wendy's use of fingering- and sport-weight yarns, which are often overlooked in lace patterns in favor of laceweight and worsted weight yarns. This book will probably get stuck as a last-minute addition into my travelling knitting bag, as the book offers a number of projects which could easily be knit on a trip with yarn substitutions that can easily be made from a local yarn purchase while traveling - creating a nice, quick, easy but interesting vacation memento.

It has some nice patterns with some great diagrams. I have been following Wend's blog for years and it's been nice to see her grow in her craft. There are some great pointers to new lace knitters, and maybe a couple new tricks for those with experience. My one criticism is that she does not provide written out directions. Some of us have brains that simpl struggle with reading charts, and I happen to one of them.

Wendy Johnson's patterns are always well-written and charted. The projects in this book do not disappoint. In fact, I liked the book so much that I now own a copy of the soft-cover version as well as the e-book.

The Nook version does not download. When I ask for a refund, I'm told it will take "one to two billing cycles" for it to appear on my statement. Funny how purchases show up immediately, though. Heading to Amazon to buy the dead tree version.
